Post by: CigarBanter on December 23, 2014, 12:02:16 AM
Brrrrr!  It's getting cold out there. At least there are warm cigar deals on the various internet sites that will help us get through it.  Join in this discussion and perhaps learn something about cigars along the way.  Be warned, post on this site and you will catch hell from members and trolls alike.  Therefore, don't proceed if you have thin skin.  If you can accept all that, light a cigar, pour a hot toddy and welcome aboard!

Today's Highlight in History:

On Dec. 23, 1954, the first successful human kidney transplant took place at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston as a surgical team led by Dr. Joseph Murray removed a kidney from 23-year-old Ronald Herrick and implanted it in Herrick's twin brother, Richard, who was dying of chronic nephritis. (Because the donor and recipient were identical twins, tissue rejection was not an issue. Richard Herrick lived until 1962; Ronald Herrick died in 2010.)

Ten years ago: Democrat Christine Gregoire won the Washington governor's race over Republican Dino Rossi by 130 votes out of 2.9 million ballots cast, according to final recount results announced from Seattle's King County. Former Connecticut Gov. John G. Rowland pleaded guilty to a corruption charge (he was later sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison; he served 10 months). Assailants claiming to be members of a revolutionary group opposed to the death penalty ambushed a bus in Honduras, killing 28 people, including six children. Two men were convicted in Houston for their role in a smuggling attempt that resulted in the deaths of 19 illegal immigrants crammed in a tractor-trailer. (Fredy Giovanni Garcia-Tobar was later sentenced to 15 years in prison; Victor Jesus Rodriguez, to 20 years and seven months.)

Tooth Pick
-------------------------

A blonde was hunched over the bar, toothpick in hand, spearing futilely at
the olive in her drink. A dozen times the olive eluded her. Finally,
another patron, who had been watching intently from the next stool, became
exasperated and grabbed the toothpick.

"Here, this is how you do it." he said, as he easily skewered the olive.

"Big Deal," muttered the blonde. "I already had him so tired out, he
couldn't get away."

+1 and the same paydays.  Pretty scary.
Payday this Friday, will be a very Merry Christmas! :)
Money is already spent.  Hoping nothing bounces before then.
Stick to credit cards Tony, it's like Monopoly money...but imagine you are always the banker! ;)

Your Tax $ Hard At Work:

The federal government is spending over $33,000 to figure out whether same-sex couples live closer to tobacco retailers, theoretically making them more likely to smoke.

A National Institutes of Health (NIH) project, entitled, “Relationship Between Tobacco Retailer Density and Sexual Minority Couples,” reasons that since many gay and lesbian couples live in cities, they may be close to stores that sell cigarettes, such as 7 Elevens.

Exactly - he is a young punk knows no better.  Even better she called me in there first to ask me WTF she should say to him.  I told her simply "FIRED" but that is not an option.  You know when your boss gets an ass chewing because of something you did you are sure enough going to get a major eating out.

Full house, very nice!  Folks arrived last night from Mississippi so we can pretty much hand over the kiddos for the next two weeks, too.  Heading to the Navy-San Diego State game tonight as well as USC-Nebraska this weekend.  Getting in the last little bit of college football before I start dreaming of baseball season...

A lot of people seemed to think it'd be easy. I mean, I was told by a lot of people that grad school is "easier" than undergrad, but so much with regards to the work itself but rather that you're working toward something very specific and all of the classes are relevant. None of the bullshit classes just to fill out a schedule.

I completely agree with that.  It's specific and stuff you care about and typically see, or will see, in your daily life.  Every class has a purpose - can't say that about under grad, that's for sure!

CyB Corona Real on special @ Famous Inventory Reduction Sale:   Box of 21/$80  Free Shipping

Robusto Delux Box of 21/$87 Free Shipping

Lonsdale 5 pak  5/$25  -  No Free Shipping   These sound interesting to me!
plus catsrule?
Damn did not know that code was still operating, might have to suck it up and put them in a tupperware humi.

Yep, the code works with these.  Brings it to $66.36 before shipping.
That code is good forever, always a classic.

When I add it to the cart, free shipping is an option.
The full boxes said free shipping included but not the 5 paks.

Trying to find a good reason to hold off, but I can't.  Got plenty of these in both corona and lonsdale but they're one of my favorites... may as well stock up at this price, right?
DO IT!  Such a good price and they won't be around much longer.  Don't wanna think about that in 2018 when you wish you had a CyB to smoke! ;)

Has JdN pulled the plug on them?  They must've right?  They're obviously not selling well if everyone just wants to get rid of them.  Crazy that such a good cigar can be such a poor seller.  O'well.

Morning, Scott.  Can't wait to get outta here today and go beer shopping with a purpose... tailgating!  Figure I'll introduce the folks to Sculpin, or maybe one of the other Ballast Point IPAs.  VaS might be a bit much for them.

You can't just go and bust out VaS, people have to be eased into such things. I tried the Laguanitas Brown Shugga, 9.9% and definitely worth a try. Still no sign of VaS here, ST Chok and Mokah flow like the salmon of Capistrano however

O'well.
That's what I heard - shame with how solid of a cigar it is.
Dammit could not resist such enabling box ordered $66.36 delivered.  Damn nice $3.39 cigar.
You won't feel guilty for long.
Typo in the cost post actually $3.29/cigar.  AHHH that cures the guilt right up. :)
Actually $3.16 but what do I know?
Don't have many accountants in this bunch do we......need JWacky back on a regular basis.

That reminds me, "I need a pain pill."  If you guys have any back pain, "Aleve," works pretty good.  My friend plays allot of golf with retired guys, and he said that's what they take, so I gave them a try.

Daily Factoid:   North Dakota was the nation’s fastest-growing state over the last year. Its population increased 2.2 percent, followed by the 1.7 percent growth in Nevada and Texas. Each of the 10 fastest-growing states was in the South or West with the exception of North Dakota.

Chit you are right I better order another box!!!!  I can't type on a calculator or on the banter today, better go home and rest I guess
Calculator hell, divide by 2 and move the decimal point....sheesh.
Well smartass you forgot to carry the 1 ;D
lost my bid on these Box: Cuenca y Blanco Corona Real (21) went for $55.00 with 6.95 shipping...
don't feel bad I won 19 other bids,  $23.95 shipping, of course there were some gurkha cigars, but a gurkha knife and mirrored blue sunglasses! http://www.cigarbid.com/Auction/Lot/1904844 (http://www.cigarbid.com/Auction/Lot/1904844)  think they would look good on the pig avatar, after all, he is smoking a Titan!
If you are happy we are happy!

They get better with age also, it's a no-brainer! Morning Joe

Still no sign of VaS here, ST Chok and Mokah flow like the salmon of Capistrano however
aren't they swallows, not salmon...
hello folks... ;D
Afternoon flip, Dumb and Dumber reference
Oh, I can't help you with lowbrow comedy references, not my cup of tea.... to each his own.  "put the candle back!"

Lunchtime - warden sent me some homemade chicken and dumplings today, it was a trick because she knows it is $1 hotdog day at the 7-11 and she does not consider that as a suitable option.
Ummm some carrot cake in the box too!

I bought some a while back and I know they are very good.

Got my order in, too.  Dave's fault.  If he jumped off a bridge, I would, too.

I used these before 'upgrading' to furniture:  http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/764410/Iris-Storage-Box-With-Water-Tight/#firstTab

They have a foam seal underneath the lid and they're fairly large.  You can pack quite a few boxes in them.  And when you're done with them and have more room in the 'real' humidor they've extra sturdy containers to have on hand for the next time you need overflow storage.

LMAO!  Dan loved the CyB before he even tried one because I told him he loved it.  I just do not give new smokers the 'good stuff'.  I'm tired of seeing half smoked (or less) cigars in the ash tray.  My dad will sometimes join me and I'll give him something halfway decent - he used to be a pipe smoker back in the day so he can at least appreciate good tobacco.

Has JdN pulled the plug on them?  They must've right?  They're obviously not selling well if everyone just wants to get rid of them.  Crazy that such a good cigar can be such a poor seller.
Please wear protective eye wear while smoking cigars...!

Saturday night I smoked with my 2 BILs and a buddy of his who smokes Cafe con Leches but wanted to branch out to normal cigars. I gave him a CyB Corona Real and he smoked literally 1/4" of it

I never understand how some people are such pussies with cigars.  Sack up and smoke the damn thing, it won't kill you.
I said, "well you don't have to be all Dan about it"...he didn't get it

I didn't anticipate giving one out but I always bring several just in case. Never again
That is what they make 93% off Ghurkas for.
Right! my Estate Selection shaggy foots a $1.27 a stick....

Right, but I wanted to kill him
Once you hand it over, you have to close your eyes to the results.  But I know it's very hard to do. Like loaning your brother-in-law (which loan is interrupted as give), $20 for gas so he can get to work, and he walks into the quick stop and purchases $20 worth of losing lotto tickets rather then the $20 worth of gas which he still does not have.

Chit now you got me wound up!  I was out of town and the Warden Loaned my BIL (her sister's husband) my utility trailer one time and he brought it back and said he was sorry but somehow he lost the spare tire and jack.   He did not have a flat tire though.  Warden's brother only knew our phone number when he needed to borrow something.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I seem to be seeing a hidden meaning to this photograph. Sort of like the guy in the mirror is reflecting on his feelings of if Obama is good or bad for the country.   Is it a fluke or a Warhol...?

I've been staring at the Santa photo so hard, that now I have to go piss.
Stare at this a while it might clear things up for you.
I'm pretty sure the one in the center is my wife.  In case there was a question, I'm referring to the heifers on the bottom and not the cute tykes on top.

get yourself an instant reading meat thermometer. take it out of the oven when you get a read of 135 degrees.
let it sit for ten minutes it should go to 140 degrees with the carryover, the middle ribs should then be medium rare, you can give the outside ones to the folks that like medium-well.  One of the classic roasts is a beef tenderloin, wrapped in a flank steak.  cook till the inside tenderloin (filet mignion) is rare, throw out the flank steak (or save for Texas chili!)

Haven't bought any Christmas Cheer or C&D Christmas Blend yet this year.  I still owe you samples of last year's versions.  I'm getting around to it.
No sense rushing into things.  Evening Tony.
I'm just aging it a bit for you is all.
Free cellaring.  Ever mindful of the needs of others.  That Antnee, whata guy.  A true BOTL.
Is Tony charging you for that Duluth Underwear advertisement? :)
Antnee?  Buck nekked?  That's an image for Tuesday night.

Hiya Flip.  Are you working today and tomorrow?
working today, going to take tomorrow off.  Christmas eve with the family over in Staten Island. 4 generations under one roof.  Youngest brother & family coming in from Montana.
Sounds like a big gathering.  Need a big turkey for that crowd!
Sorry was away from Desk, nope, Italians only eat fish on Christmas Eve, though last year Christmas day, had some incredible beef tenderloin at my daughters house.  this year they are having turkey with us.
No fish for me tomorrow.  Cubans dig on the swine and I'm out-voted.  I can't say that I mind some lechon asado.
No seven fishes, but stop down, we'll have some pickled herring (both wine and sour cream), scungilli and calimari.
We always do fish on Xmas eve, king crab legs, shrimp bisque but this year we're roasting a whole filet mignon, so much for religion
Filet Mignon is a religion in itself!
Indeed, very excited about it

You could always give it to Joe when you see him.  His brother likes flavored/infused cigars.  Tina, one of the girls at Charlie's lounge, likes 'em too.  Did I mention she was really cute?
