Post by: CigarBanter on December 15, 2014, 12:00:47 AM
Brrrrr!  It's getting cold out there. At least there are warm cigar deals on the various internet sites that will help us get through it.  Join in this discussion and perhaps learn something about cigars along the way.  Be warned, post on this site and you will catch hell from members and trolls alike.  Therefore, don't proceed if you have thin skin.  If you can accept all that, light a cigar, pour a Hot Toddy and welcome aboard!

Life isn't like a box of chocolates; it's more like a jar of jalapenos: you never know what's going to burn your ass.

I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.

Tell me what you need, and I'll tell you how to get along without it.

Needing someone is like needing a parachute. If they aren't there the first time, chances are you won't need them again.

I don't have an attitude problem, you have a perception problem.

Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where in the hell is the ceiling?

My reality check bounced.

Be careful...a pat on the back is only a few centimeters from a kick in the ass.

Don't be irreplaceable --- if you can't be replaced, you won't be promoted.

The more crap you put up with, the more crap you are going to get.

You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry a clipboard.

We'll see. Wilson is the same kinda QB in SEA, and it's working out ok for them. Hope he's the answer, but I'm a Cleveland fan, so I'm used to tempering my excitement.

IMO the Famous bid is much better for stuff slipping under the radar, not all the time obviously and they set minimums for certain things but generally bargains can be found if patient

artdada         1         $61.00
danmdevries  2         $60.00
lalbert           1         $60.00
Impressive....think they went for about $100 on Cbid
Just checked, there is currently a lot of 10 boxes up with two days to go.  Price is $67
IMO the Famous bid is much better for stuff slipping under the radar, not all the time obviously and they set minimums for certain things but generally bargains can be found if patient
With few exceptions, the only time you seem to be able to get a decent bargain is when Cbid offers 10 or more of an item.

Right, even then people seem to bid crazy on that site. It stays more reasonable at Famous, people don't seem to bid products up early on and bids end throughout the day, not just late night

It's nuts - I think we should do a salt/sand mixture, like 25/75.  Only issue with salt, is that we don't get temps warm enough to melt-away the snow/ice, so the salt would just melt it and turn it into ice.  Minnesota does salt, not sure about the other surrounding states.

they have treated salt now that works to -22 degrees. NYSDOT has used it for years. don't have to incur the cost of clean up in the spring from sand, culverts, drains, shoulders, intersections, etc.

Been a few years for me.  Decent enough when they aren't plugged, but methinks an appropriate on-line price level in the $4 neighborhood.

Nice and slippery here in Fargo this mornin - freezing rain and ND don't mix well.  Good mornin gents!
Freezing rain doesn't mix well most anywhere.  Morning yellow star.
True statement - we also don't salt roads, so it gets extra interesting...howdy Dave!  You in NJ this week?
Heading out to Reno this afternoon for a couple of days.
The Biggest Little City in the World!  Never been to Reno, or NV in general - any cigar bars or breweries close to stop by?
Couple of decent local brewpubs and a few cigar shops including two that only do their own cigars (manufacture and sell), plus some bars in the casinos allow cigar smoking.
Very nice!  Always more enjoyable when the place you are going to has some good amenities!
Especially with the evenings being in the 20s-30s.
Assuming you are talking about the women...  ;)
Yes, but that's not their ages, that's his estimate on the amount.

I need to make a stop at my new bank and see why I cannot access my account online, hit the noon meeting, maybe the driving range afterwards, the PO, and see if I still feel like throwing a steak and potato on the grill for dinner.

I will wait and see if Steve shares his weekend follies with us first though.

I'm starting to see that I take after my mother.  I used to spend a few hours with her every Saturday. I'd ask her what she wanted to do, and of course it was, "let's go shopping."  So on one Saturday she would buy some thing, then worry all week that she bought the wrong thing or spent too much money, and we'd have to return it the following Saturday.  I bought my daughter-in-law a Christmas present, and it upset me so bad that I couldn't sleep for two nights, and I finally took it back the third day and exchanged it.  I tried to convince myself that the present would be ok, and let it go. I dreaded the thought of going through the exchange process.  But I finally did it, and now I can start on the next present or problem... Ugh..!  Getting older is really weird.  But now I understand why my mother would exchange her purchases every other weekend... :)

Top 25 list reveal begins. I know how anxious you all are to see it: http://top25.cigaraficionado.com/
Must have just put it up....checked earlier and nothing.....I'm so anxious!!!  :o
LALTS. 8-10 are out today.
I know I'm retarded but I don't get it... It's supposed to be top25, right?  So where are 11-25?
They think people actually give a shit about these ratings and sit around and wait for them to release the numbers.  When really, it's just a ticket for who can markup their cigar 200% and then clearance it out the next year :)  Ohh, good mornin Tony!
So you won't give a shit when I publish the CigarBanter Top25??
I'd like to suggest adding Acid Kuba Kuba Maduro to the list... Maybe #1 or #2... :)

A 5-second 40-yard-dash time would be slow for the NFL, but amounts to 24 feet-per-second.

She misquotes the usual rule of thumb, which states that the average person can cover 20 feet in 1.5 seconds.  Still, she's closer to right than wrong.

If they are going to pass laws like that, I think I would rather see an open carry law vs a concealed law.  At least that way I'd know who not to f@ck with.  Mmmm, I wonder if an open carry law would also bring back the old custom of ambush...?   Here's Ashton Kutcher new reality tv show, "Ambush..!"

Slow for the NFL is pretty fast for most people. Plus, it sounds like she's assuming someone at a dead run. If someone can be coming at her at a dead run and be only 20 feet away without her noticing, I don't think a gun will help her situation.

Without going into the politics of that situation, it's not a question of how fast the guy can run.  It's a question of how many bullets will be needed to stop him before he gets to you.  Contrary to cinematic portrayals and urban legend, even the most powerful handgun isn't reliably capable of one-shot-stop unless the shot severs the spinal cord - and that's a really small target surrounded by all kinds of protection that make it hard to hit, even for trained shooters.  And the bigger they are, the less damage any single bullet is likely to do.

Oh no, it really easy, back in August, wife bought some pandora jewelry, that she said would be good for her Christmas gift.  last month, a package came in with a leather purse, that she said would be good for her birthday.  I only had to remember to take the family out to dinner last weekend, at her choice of restaurant, and I was golden.  I bought some stuff from Macy's on cyber monday, I said just put it under the tree, your Christmas shopping is done ...

This woman is worried about a guy who can run 25 feet in 1.5 seconds and stab her? Get this guy a tryout with the Browns!
I keep thinking about the Michael Brown, Ferguson incident.  The police officer said he feared for his life when Michael Brown charged him.  But, just how fast can a 292 lb person run...?  I'm thinking slow motion, but I really have no idea.  I'd like to see his 40 yard dash gym class scores.

Dirty Harry Callahan and his .44 magnum that blows people off their feet (and "...heads clean off") live in a magical universe where the laws of physics for this cosmos don't apply.
I just thought of it when the, "run 25 foot in 1.5 sec.," came up.  I guess I was thinking there could have been an alternative. But that's too political.  Now, back to cigars.

Maybe not be 'clean off', but a head shot would leave quite an exit wound. Leaving some minimal motor function, I'm sure.
Yeah, with some variance dependent on the bullet and load.

There are always alternatives, some good perhaps, some bad, some neutral.  But make no mistake - only sociopaths can take killing in stride.  Everyone else, including cops, it scars...forever.

The closest I've come is to pull the weapon and aim.  This was 1996. The guy ran, so I didn't have to pull the trigger.  Five minutes later I was hard-pressed to control my bowels.  Four hours later I was still shaking so bad my wife had to light cigarettes for me.  Twenty hours later I could finally fall asleep.  I still have the occasional nightmare.  And I didn't shoot anyone.

Also, had the 6-shooter sampler for @ $32 for anyone in the market.

I didn't really need them but would've taken them at a certain price for sure. Didn't want to keep bidding it up because I knew YAD was interested so I bailed out. Didn't want to see that guy get them that low without testing

Tatuaje Lancero Sampler @ CigarPlace $77.36 shipped Free earlier today, $1 until the 18th. I believe the Famous deal was closer to 60 (sold out)... but if you're still interested... Scott.  ;)
Thanks but I'm out for now, won a box of Herrera Esteli Lonsdales on bid unexpectedly on Friday
Love/hate when that happens!
I was pleasantly surprised, threw a bid in at $102 with over an hour left and it wound up being the last bid of the day. Ended at an odd time, like 3:00 so I think that helped. Pretty darn good $4 cigars
Hell yeah - that's the same way I felt about my $3.58/JDHs!
Yeaaaaaaahhhhh buddy! I thought for sure I'd get douched at the end, especially because the other bidders were names I see all the time. I wish I made a stronger push at the Pudgies, could've had a box for $65 and I'm already paying shipping

Interesting auction on the Angeles that night... did you drop out because of the other bidding?
I didn't really need them but would've taken them at a certain price for sure. Didn't want to keep bidding it up because I knew YAD was interested so I bailed out. Didn't want to see that guy get them that low without testing

Ahhh. You pretty much nailed the selling price in your earlier comment. Either way, it's good to know someone we know is getting the good deal, not some random 'dick'.  ;) Those are good, but I'm still interested in the PCR's.
Me too, a box was supposed to go on bid today but was postponed, no stock

For physical therapy tonight, I had to walk fifty steps without crutches.  Takes about 25 to get to my smoking room, fire up the fan, pour myself some whiskey, select an EPC Short Run '13, light up, and sit down.  Will take the other half to reverse the process when my cigar is done.  Perfect.
