Well, I think I may have gotten off to the wrong start with my scotch tasting. Store only had the 1.75 of the Speyburn 10 Ogie suggested ($53). Was only wanting to pick up the 750. So, I took that $50 and picked up a bottle of Macallan 12 year the owner recommended. Then, with that and the Highland Park 12 I already had, met my brother who just happened to have a bottle of Lavavulin 16 year. FML... this is what happened with cigars!
Man, are you in trouble...

I know, right!?!

Not to mention i picked up a couple bombers while I was there as well. Lagunitas Coffee Imperial Stout, Abita Macchiato Milk Stout and a ST Creme Brulee.
Haven't had the first two, but the Creme Brulee is saweettt......have your insulin ready.

Oh, I know. I've had it the past 2 years. I just like to compare. The 2013 seemed to have a lot more graham cracker flavor than last years.

JWacky is going to be upset that you guys are having such an in-depth scotch discussion without him.
Any vodka connoisseurs out there?  I have a bottle of Polish vodka my grandparents brought back from Czechoslovakia in 1956.  Haven't tried it, but just the aroma makes me think it was siphoned out of the fuel tank of a wrecked Panzer.
Send a sample of it out to San Diego.  Joe is a connoisseur of all things containing alcohol.  Tobacco, too, for that matter, so probably should send him a few canal-gars, just as a test.

Good idea bean!  This stuff could be lethal.  I'll send a couple fake Cohibas too. Some nitwit at Flossie's gave me a few a number of years back.  They're wrapped in cello.  The bands are laughable.  But he said they were genuine, because he bought them on South Beach.

I drank the Laguanitas Cappuccino Stout on Friday night when I met my friends for drinks, it was very good on tap
Got a couple of bottles of Lagunitas Sucks....think that will be on tap when I get home.  Have you tried the Terrapin Moo Hoo Chocolate Milk Stout?  Very smooth and not near as silly or artificial as the name implies
I brought home a dozen Holy City Brewing Pluff Mud Porters from SC if I ever feel like drinking and smoking again.  Good Stuff.  Also brought an assortment of those Georgia Sweetwater brews which can be found in a lot of the country but not here.

SweetWater makes a great 420 IPA. Although, my favorite is the Happy Ending.

Introduction to Single Malt 101 - every fuk'n liquor store in American will recommend Macallan to every single rookie that will listen.

Well, that and the fact NJDave brought it up at one point. This guy has ordered stuff for me before, so I trusted his opinion.
The Macallan 12 is an outstanding scotch despite it's popularity, that was a great buy. Lagavulin is nearly double the price
Just as Glenlivet and Glenfiddich are usually overlooked at ordinary.  Both fine (even if not exceptional) in my book.

He shared a sales fact when I asked about the 'Glens'...

Supposedly Glenlivet is a bigger seller in America, and Glenfiddich is a bigger seller worldwide.

Also, being a store owner, everything has it's place. Like the ONLY Lavavulin he stocks is the 16 year... cause that's what people buy... shelf space has a premium.
You should have some big-ass stores there to select from.

This was my neighborhood store. 5 more miles and I can go to Total beer & Wine... the supermarket of alcohol... Yes, I have gotten a cart before. I was not proud, but very happy!

Afternoon KC.  Not a Vodka Connoisseur myself, only use Grey Goose for Martini's and whatever is there for Bloody Mary's, usually Absolut or local Titos"s.  Those are about 100% of my vodka uses.
Ditto - Svedka for cheap mixes and Goose for everything else.

About half of what I brought home was 420, luv that beer.  Also brought two "tackle boxes" of their stuff.      I stay away from those Happy Ending parlors myself.

We have a total beer and wine in San Antonio but not Austin.  I go there and stock up when I am in San Antonio.

I tend to stick to the aroma rule - if it smells bad, it'll taste bad.

Ukraine is where all the expert distillers fled the USSR to in order to fly under the radar.  So I bet it's excellent stuff.  (I made that schitt up, but sounds plausible, so salud!)

It's in my b&m locker.  I'll finally open it up the next time I'm there.
