Title: 8/18/2015
Post by: CigarBanter on August 18, 2015, 12:00:40 AM
It's Tuesday again!  In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars.  Join in and perhaps learn something along the way.  Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either...  And welcome aboard

Evening, muchachos, if any of you are here.  V Lancero and whiskey on the rocks.  The whole world is fucked up, so I'm drinking hard tonight.
Don't be drinking too hard... It's a school night.

Just kidding, brother.  I hope you're ok.

Oh, hell.  I'm fine.  Just annoyed.  So it's a three double-whiskey night.  But that was between 6pm and now, so I'm not remotely drunk.  Just rosy.

This is the year of Everybody Give Bret A Vehicle.  My dad gave me the diesel Suburban that I use to tow the travel trailer, I got the 1992 Toyota pickup running that an old friend traded me for a futon and a couple old computers.  Then I ended up with the '79 Sportster that my drug-addicted brother forfeited to me when he defaulted on a $400 loan. Now my brother wants to give me a 1994 Ford F-150 and a PT Cruiser (#2 son wants the cruiser), and my mother-in-law is giving the warden her low-mileage Camry.  But the warden doesn't want to give up her 1994 Maxima, because it's a little race car with a new engine that only has 30K miles on it. It's beginning to look like a damned used car lot around here.  Maybe I should call Bad Dad.

LOL.  He's definitely in the market.  Although if St Louis is too far for him to travel, me thinks Washington will be way out of the question.

There are worse problems to have.  Keep the ones you need and sell the rest.  Look at it as extra cigar money.

-- Love it.  It gets 18mpg, whether it's pulling the 20' travel trailer or not.  It needs a little body work, but the engine only has about 30K miles on it.  Dad burned up the original engine when an oil pump hose broke - a malady that allegedly never happens.  Cost him $10K to put a new engine in, but it's good for half a million miles if I keep an eye on that hose.  Thing just works, and the boys love travelling in it because they can both stretch out and play video games while I drive.

Now that my littlest ones can get into the last row and buckle themselves, there isn't any more need for a minivan.

Probably right.  Maybe if I throw in some cigars...
I don't think you have many in his wheelhouse.

Sounds like Cigars for company team building retreats!

At the 2015 IPCPR, AJ Fernandez cigars unleashed a new line of cigars. Known as the Enclave Cigars by AJ Fernandez, the cigars in this line feature a unique blend created by Ismael Fernandez and his son AJ.

The Enclave cigars are special in that they celebrate the special brotherhood of those who love smoking cigars. Each cigar was created to recognize the diversity of the brotherhood and the passion of every cigar smoker. The design of the cigar alone showcases this. The band has a picture of the original growers of tobacco, the Native Americans. The resulting look is elegant and luxurious and a reminder of what the cigar is really about.

Each Enclave cigars by AJ Fernandez are hand-made at a factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. With an Habano Rosado from Ecuador wrapper and as binder a tasty Cameroon, the medium to full-bodied cigar is a pleasant smoke. AJ Fernandez Nicaraguan and AJ Fernandez Piloto Cubano fillers provide notes of cedar, pepper, spice, and cinnamon. With a low price tag and first-rate flavor, it's an excellent choice for a daily smoker.

The Enclave is available in boxes of 20 in the following sizes: Robusto, Toro, Churchill and Figurado. Each of the sizes has a 52 ring gauge. Don't miss out on this high-quality cigar. Buy them now from Cuenca Cigars for the best online prices.

Most of us have been burned along the way in some way or another by one of the sleezy bastards.  Lady here got burned by the largest Ford Dealer in TX charging $400 for nitrogen filled tires on a new car,  usually free or no more than $5 per tire at the very most.

About 25 years ago I made a deal with a Toyota Dealer 70 miles away for a specific car and told them to prep it and  I would be back before noon the next morning with a check to pick it up.  I was there by 10:00 a.m. to pick it up and the sales manager tried to jack the price about $500, said that deal was only good for yesterday not today.  Short story, the salesman and the sales manager locked themselves in the sales managers office and called the cops.  Was in a  small town and cop said seems like I should have whipped their ass and left.

It's called keepin' it real.  This here's a virtual version of the old-fashioned men's club - where you are expected to brag about your conquests and it's everyone else's job to harass you about them.  Doesn't matter whether the conquests are women, fish, car salesmen, gazebos, deadbeats, or cigar websites.  This is what we do.

Think I'll be going with a chicken cheesesteak today.
I actually think cows make the best steak...chickens make good crab bait.
Cows make milk, Steers make Steak and Chickens make Crab and Alligator bait.
Wellll, when the cows can't make the milk anymore, they become steaks (or yuppie dog food).  fine point.

We have Blue Crabs here and on the Atlantic side don't think that is what you have over that way so that might be the difference
Blue Crabs eat anything that once was meat.  interesting when we lose a person in the bay (Chesapeake) periodically.  just have to hope to find them quickly.....

Great Deal Alert:

Mashing

Nica Rustica El Burijito
5/$23 FS
Buy 3 and apply Catsrule
Nice price for sure, they will sell out quickly.
Not only did they sell out, they're not even still on the page.  Oh, and an example of price fluctuations on the Mash. Noirs were $18.98, then $23.98 and now $21.98 all in a week's time.

Think I'll be going with a chicken cheesesteak today.
I actually think cows make the best steak...chickens make good crab bait.
Cows make milk, Steers make Steak and Chickens make Crab and Alligator bait.
Wellll, when the cows can't make the milk anymore, they become steaks (or yuppie dog food).  fine point.
Respectfully disagree - when too old to make milk they make fast-food joint hamburger patties and those tubes of ground beef at Walmart.
LOL, we can agree on that

My dad and I are brewing a Vanilla Bean Porter this weekend and we are adding in some orange peel and cacao nibs.  Orange is going in during the boil, as I just want a slight aftertaste, but the cacao is going in for the second fermentation along with the vanilla beans.

That is quite a concoction!   I got a little brewing set up for my birthday and plan to get my first batch started when it cools off a little.

Shiner has a Prickly Pear Cactus beer that is not bad but real light.

Have you had the Warlock too?  I wasn't as big of a fan, but I will get 1 or 2 this year and try them again.  I just can't get enough of Pumking!
Have not had Warlock.  Not much of a flavored beer fan.
Understandable - there are way more bad ones than good ones it makes it tough to sift through it all.
For sure there are a butt load of them and seems to me most are not so good.  And they are expensive to try and not like.

I always tried to find that Shiner but I never saw it locally - we seemed to get all of the other seasonal releases though.  I am getting into brewing more and more - my dad is about to switch to kegging, so that will be amazing once that happens.

Totally new to me but I have a good friend in Denver who has been brewing for over 20 years and all he does is kegs now.

Think I will go home, don't cut a burrito in that meeting! :o

Here's a partial try list for you (in addition to the two you mentioned):
Brooklyn Oktoberfest
New Glarus Staghorn Oktoberfest
Flying Dog Dogtoberfest
Left Hand Oktoberfest
Victory Festbier
Half Acre Lager Town
Bruery Autumn Maple
Breckenridge Brewery Autumn Ale
Southern Tier Harvest (more of an English Bitter)
DuClaw Mad Bishop

That's not even venturing into the pumpkin offerings.

Exactly-I usually like most of the unique ones Southern Tier puts out, but they do have a couple of funky ones.
Creme Brulee can rot your teeth out....Choklat, Choklat Oranj, Mokah are interesting.  Really like 2XMAS but not Old Man Winter.

The 2XMAS was very good, surprisingly because I didn't anticipate liking it, not a big "spiced" fan with drinks

2XMAS is my all time favorite...I need to try Warlock again.  When I had it last year it was like 80deg out and I was borderline sweating, not the best time to put down a stout.

Afternoon, gents.  Was shopping earlier, saw a bunch of O-fest brews and picked up a six-pack of Yuengling Oktoberfest ... don't think I have had it before ... the Amber Lager bottles is what I keep at home (so I rarely drink it when I go out, always wanting to try other offerings).  It is ice cold and very thirst quenching on this hot humid day. It's very good ... I like a more rich flavor and mouth feel ... so I'll keep trying others ... but no regrets in buying this one.
One year, I made it a point to try as many as possible, imported as well as national and local ... Sam Adams is usually pretty good, Dominion, when it was local was awesome, as well as Rock Bottom (draft) ... the best I've had is the Avery Kaiser Wilhelm Imperial Octoberfest ... the name says it all. Too, good ... not cheap.  Now I'm thinking of trying to dig out my Quesada Oktoberfest cigars.
*** Shaun, I, also have a bottle of Pumking from last year ... waiting for the right moment.
