Ten years ago: A federal appeals court ruled that a Guantanamo detainee who once was Osama bin Laden's driver could be tried by a military tribunal. (However, the Supreme Court struck down the tribunals in June 2006, saying they violated U.S. and international law. Salim Ahmed Hamdan was later convicted by a military court of material support for terrorism and sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison, but his conviction was tossed out by a federal appeals court; Hamdan was given credit for time served and freed.) Bankrupt energy company Enron Corp. agreed to pay a settlement of up to $1.5 billion to resolve claims that it had gouged California and other western states during the 2000-2001 energy crisis.

One Cent
-------------------------

A man walked into a cafe,
went to the bar and ordered a beer.

"Certainly, Sir , that'll be one cent."

One Cent?" the man exclaimed.

He glanced at the menu and asked: "How much for a nice juicy steak and a bottle of wine?"

"A nickel," the barman replied.

"A nickel?" exclaimed the man.

"Where's the guy who owns this place?"

The bartender replied: "Upstairs, with my wife."

The man asked: "What's he doing upstairs with your wife?"

The bartender replied: "The same thing I'm doing to his business down here."

Pretty intense thunderstorm here last night. Wind was pushing trees parallel to the ground. Auntie Em, Auntie Em!
Thought for sure there'd be a few uprooted, but thankfully only a few limbs and a lot of leaf clusters.

Not to ruin it or anything, but they shoot a .50 at a target leaned against a tree causing it to fall. Kinda small tree that has no doubt see many hits in the past. The guy running is really the funny part. If you let YouTube roll to some of the next videos, you'll see some real dumbasses getting scopes in the eye etc.

on my way into work, i get to look across the Delaware river and see the Salem nuclear power plant which looks like it's only a mile or 2 away as the sober crow flies.  seeing the storm references brought back this mornings heart stopper (to me anyway) i was at a red light looking straight ahead and directly in front of me is the cooling tower for Salem.  i could see clouds all around, but it wasn't storming.  all of a sudden the sky around the cooling tower lit up with a blue flash (no bolt of lightning mind you) and it looked like an electric blue halo all around the cooling tower.  i was caught between panicking and figuring what the hell, i'd never see the 2nd flash when i realized it was lightning.  i've seen lightning before, but just the way it flashed around that tower.....
Would rather never go through THAT again.

on my way into work, i get to look across the Delaware river and see the Salem nuclear power plant which looks like it's only a mile or 2 away as the sober crow flies.  seeing the storm references brought back this mornings heart stopper (to me anyway) i was at a red light looking straight ahead and directly in front of me is the cooling tower for Salem.  i could see clouds all around, but it wasn't storming.  all of a sudden the sky around the cooling tower lit up with a blue flash (no bolt of lightning mind you) and it looked like an electric blue halo all around the cooling tower.  i was caught between panicking and figuring what the hell, i'd never see the 2nd flash when i realized it was lightning.  i've seen lightning before, but just the way it flashed around that tower.....
Would rather never go through THAT again.
Let me leave you with a happy image to calm your nerves...
That would have BEEN calming put against what I saw.  I know I'm from the 50's/60's era when we were all going to die tomorrow in a nuclear holocaust, and yes, it marked me, but I have to tell you, the electronic blue flash, the brightness of it and the fact it was all around this tower....

TRENDY BUT CALM: ADULT COLORING BOOKS SELLING LIKE CRAZY
BY BETH J. HARPAZ
ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK (AP) -- Adult coloring books are giving Harper Lee a run for the money on best-seller lists this summer.

Dover Publications has sold more than 3 million adult coloring books with titles like "Flower Fashion Fantasies." Quarto Publishing will have 1.3 million in print this year ranging from mandalas to fairies. "Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt," by one of the genre's most popular illustrators, Johanna Basford, remains a top seller on Amazon two years after its initial publication.

It's not so much hot here but the humidity is unbearable.  Funny thing is that it poured for the majority of the day, outside my office.  Just 12 miles northwest, not a drop and my grass is looking kind of dry.

According to weather.com it says:
Cloudy 79° RealFeel®: 77° Humidity: 53%.

It sure doesn't feel like that though.  So I'm either lying or stupid.

I agree with you.  On paper the conditions are ideal.  So why am I sweating my ass crack off?  My guess is that weather.com is wrong.  I would guess:
Cloudy 79° RealFeel®: 92° Humidity: 95%.

I think I'm having a stroke.  I stepped outside to see if there was that much of a discrepancy and it turns out weather.com is correct.  It's really nice out here.

I could have sworn the air was thick like split pea soup only moments earlier.  Oh well, whatever.
