Annual Senior Citizen Test

It's that time of year to take our annual senior
citizen test. Exercising the brain is as important
as exercising muscles. As we grow older, it's
important to keep mentally alert. If you don't use
it, you lose it! Below is a very private way to gauge
your loss or non-loss of intelligence.
Take the test presented here to determine if you're
losing it or not. The spaces below are so you don't
see the answers until you've made your answer. OK, relax, clear your
mind and begin.
1. What do you put in a toaster?
Answer: "bread." If you said "toast," give up
now and do something else. Try not to hurt yourself.
If you said, bread, go to Question 2.
2. Say "silk" five times. Now spell "silk"
What do cows drink?
Answer: Cows drink water. If you said "milk," don't attempt the next

I usually take off the Monday after returning from vacation for just that reason. Not that it makes Tuesday much better, but gives you a little more mental preparation.

If you scroll down on the link it shows an aerial view. Great part about the location is that the people across the street can't access the beach, the closest public access is like 5 blocks down so the beach in front of the house is all ours

The (basically) private beach is awesome, didn't realize when we first booked it that nobody can use the oceanfront property to cut through to the beach and there are no walkways through for people across the street

I'm sure I mention about 6 months ago that my wife's 20 year old car needed about $1,500 worth of radiator, hoses, and transmission fluid leaking into the radiator. Well, about two weeks ago, the car will no longer hold oil. It's coming out the oil pan, and heads, and needs another $1,500 worth of engine work. Now I have to take her to work at 10:00 pm and pick her up at 6:00 am.... Ugh..!

My wife said she wants a Toyota. I check on the internet and there's allot of special deals with a $1,000 rebate making the price from $16,000 to $23,000. I figured we could find some thing in the $17,000 - $19,000 range. So we went to our local friendly home town Toyota dealer on Friday.

Everything but the fishing guide and alcohol was included. The drink bill was significant when we left! Thankfully though the warden told me after I checked out it would have cost a lot more but she saved me some money buying a bottle of wine everyday rather than just ordering by the glass..........PTL for the little things!

We made a deal on a Corolla for $20,000 with our sales man. The Sales manager, who kept butting in and turning the deal into a high pressure sale, brought the contract over. They write the deals at tables on the showroom, so your sitting in the middle of all the other salesmen and customers. The Sales Manager brings the contract over, and points to the line I have to sign on, but his arm is over the figures so you can't see the deal. I said, "let me take a look at this." He wrote the deal at $21,000 instead of the $20,000 that was agreed upon. When I asked him about it, he started raising his voice as he's explaining it. Basically, he wouldn't include the advertised $1,000 rebate. I said, "that's not how you explained it 10 minutes ago.." He said, "ARE YOU CALLING ME A LIAR...?" I said, "No, I'm saying, YOU did not explain the EXTRA $1,000 increase...!" My wife asked me, "what's going on..?" I said, "this guy is pulling some thing on us, and it's going to cost us another $1,000. I'm saying, "your not getting your new car..!" My wife starts crying and everyone is looking at us. There are a lot of Toyota dealerships that are no nonsense....some are the hard sell like you had to deal with. Do you have any other choices for dealerships? I would also blast off a letter to Toyota of America about your dealings with the bozo's. If you have a Mazda dealership around, consider a 3.

There are a lot of Toyota dealerships that are no nonsense....some are the hard sell like you had to deal with. Do you have any other choices for dealerships? Toyotas are good cars but Toyota Dealers are notoriously some of the worst sleezbag sales operations.

As soon as the deal didn't match what was discussed, I'd have walked out, no questions asked. If they can't get something like that right at the very beginning, that's not someone you want to enter into a business dealing with. Who knows what else they stuck in the contract, cause who the fuck can read all that at the time you're buying a car?

He wasn't going to sell me that car with a rebate. I've been sort of thinking about writing Toyota, and asking them, "Why are you offering rebates when the dealership fights to keep you from getting it...?" And would rather lose a sale over it..? When I got home I looked at the dealers webpage on the car I had tried to buy. It's internet price, with tax, title, fees and license, minus the $1,000 rebate was right at $20,000. Our original deal. And the whole time I told them I wanted to pay cash (what we had saved + pre-approved credit union loan.) Now we don't know what to do..? We wanted a Toyota but now even if we went to St. Louis to buy one, we still wouldn't want to deal with this local dealership...

There are a lot of Toyota dealerships that are no nonsense....some are the hard sell like you had to deal with. Do you have any other choices for dealerships? I would also blast off a letter to Toyota of America about your dealings with the bozo's. If you have a Mazda dealership around, consider a 3.
We have a Honda Dealership, but I'm not sure about the Civic (size and ride). I doubt we could afford an Accord. We do have a Mazda, Kia, Hyundia, VW, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and I'm sure there are some others. My wife had her heart set on that Corolla. It had a very nice ride, quiet, and was showing 27 mpg around town. Oh well.., another problem to solve.

It's a little bit of work on your part, but go around to a couple of different dealerships, Toyota or otherwise. You can tell right away what is legit and what is bullshit. With the internet, they can't get away with as much as they once did. Find another decent dealership, get the deal then bring the little lady when all you have to do is pick a color.

Mazda, Ford, Chevy and Hyundai all have cars comparable to and priced about the same as the Corolla. All similar features, handling....different styles. You just need to do the groundwork before you bring her along.

Over the weekend I found out that my brother-in-laws sister is a salesman at that dealership. I shot her a facebook message, and she said the salesman that lost the deal is going to his General Manager to talk about it. So, I'm not sure if they will try to contact me or not. Friday we went to one of our banks and cashed out our CD's and had a check made out to the dealership. Since we closed our accounts we had to go to my credit union to deposit the check, and now there's a 5 business days hold on the money for the check to clear. Aaaa, it just get's better and better.. :)

We made a deal on a Corolla for $20,000 with our sales man. The Sales manager, who kept butting in and turning the deal into a high pressure sale, brought the contract over. They write the deals at tables on the showroom, so your sitting in the middle of all the other salesmen and customers. The Sales Manager brings the contract over, and points to the line I have to sign on, but his arm is over the figures so you can't see the deal. I said, "let me take a look at this." He wrote the deal at $21,000 instead of the $20,000 that was agreed upon. When I asked him about it, he started raising his voice as he's explaining it. Basically, he wouldn't include the advertised $1,000 rebate. I said, "that's not how you explained it 10 minutes ago.." He said, "ARE YOU CALLING ME A LIAR...?" I said, "No, I'm saying, YOU did not explain the EXTRA $1,000 increase...!" My wife asked me, "what's going on..?" I said, "this guy is pulling some thing on us, and it's going to cost us another $1,000. I'm saying, "your not getting your new car..!" My wife starts crying and everyone is looking at us. The Sales Manager says, "It's only $1,000." I said, "Well, your right, it's only money. Let's see how you like some one taking money away from you...? My offer now is $19,500 cash... It's only money, except now it's yours..! The Sales Manager looked at us as if he wanted to kill us... He started pacing around the show room, coming up to our table and pacing again. I shot her a facebook message, and she said the salesman that lost the deal is going to his General Manager to talk about it. So, I'm not sure if they will try to contact me or not. Friday we went to one of our banks and cashed out our CD's and had a check made out to the dealership. Since we closed our accounts we had to go to my credit union to deposit the check, and now there's a 5 business days hold on the money for the check to clear. Aaaa, it just get's better and better.. :)
Dad, the 5 day hold is probably a good thing for you at this point. Just sit back and wait 5 days then start this deal all over fresh without the warden at a dealership owned by someone else besides the crook that owns that one and don't go in with a check already made out.

Thanks Tony.... I really thought by now with TrueCar, Carsdirect, and other internet car buying services, that car dealers would just start offering decent prices and sell a car like anything else. But's it's just like the 60's, 70's where buying a new car is like trying to buy some thing from a scam artist. I wonder if they ever started selling cars to women...?

There are a bunch of different Toyota Dealers in and around St Louis.
St. Louis is full of dealers, but I sure don't want to drive in that St. Louis traffic to get to them.
Not much we can do for you, Tuesday thru Thursday between 10 and 2 traffic in STL is not that bad at all.

My wife said she wants a Toyota. I check on the internet and there's allot of special deals with a $1,000 rebate making the price from $16,000 to $23,000. I figured we could find some thing in the $17,000 - $19,000 range. So we went to our local friendly home town Toyota dealer on Friday.
We made a deal on a Corolla for $20,000 with our sales man. The Sales manager, who kept butting in and turning the deal into a high pressure sale, brought the contract over. They write the deals at tables on the showroom, so your sitting in the middle of all the other salesmen and customers. The Sales Manager brings the contract over, and points to the line I have to sign on, but his arm is over the figures so you can't see the deal. I said, "let me take a look at this." He wrote the deal at $21,000 instead of the $20,000 that was agreed upon. When I asked him about it, he started raising his voice as he's explaining it. Basically, he wouldn't include the advertised $1,000 rebate. I said, "that's not how you explained it 10 minutes ago.." He said, "ARE YOU CALLING ME A LIAR...?" I said, "No, I'm saying, YOU did not explain the EXTRA $1,000 increase...!" My wife asked me, "what's going on..?" I said, "this guy is pulling some thing on us, and it's going to cost us another $1,000. I'm saying, "your not getting your new car..!" My wife starts crying and everyone is looking at us. The Sales Manager says, "It's only $1,000." I said, "Well, your right, it's only money. Let's see how you like some one taking money away from you...? My offer now is $19,500 cash... It's only money, except now it's yours..! The Sales Manager looked at us as if he wanted to kill us... He started pacing around the show room, coming up to our table and pacing again. My wife is crying. It was very traumatic and embarrassing. I thought I might have to fight this guy, I'm serious. He was basically trying to screw us out of the $1,000 rebate. He was more concerned on taking that rebate away from us than selling the car. But I don't know what advantage he would get from removing the rebate...? Finally he came over to our table and said, "It's time for you two to leave..!" And, threw us out. I walked over to our salesman and said, "We had a deal, it was all table, what just happened..?" The salesman is looking at me like, "my boss just took my sale away from me." We went home and I checked Truecar and the Truecar deal for that car was $19,675. My offer was only $175 off, and yet they threw us out... ugh..!

Just deposit it in your checking, then you write a personal check to whomever.
Now you would think it would be that simple. But they would only allow it into our savings account, and then we'll have to transfer it unto the checking once it cleared.

I'm sure I mention about 6 months ago that my wife's 20 year old car needed about $1,500 worth of radiator, hoses, and transmission fluid leaking into the radiator. Well, about two weeks ago, the car will no longer hold oil. It's coming out the oil pan, and heads, and needs another $1,500 worth of engine work. Now I have to take her to work at 10:00 pm and pick her up at 6:00 am.... Ugh..!

Dad, the 5 day hold is probably a good thing for you at this point. Just sit back and wait 5 days then start this deal all over fresh without the warden at a dealership owned by someone else besides the crook that owns that one and don't go in with a check already made out.

We had the check made out later in the day during the dealing and returned. I've been leaving some things out to make the story short. I said, "I can't make the deal today (Friday) because I only have $17,000, but Saturday I'll go to my other bank and get the additional $3,000 and pay cash." The Sales Manager said, "Why don't you give us the $17,000, and finance the remaining through Toyota and take the car home today, which is why my wife was so excited." By taking the finance, you don't qualify for the $1,000 rebate, which he did not tell us, plus I don't care about the rebate, the agreed price was $20,000 not $21,000. Here's what pissed me off the most. The $3,000 Toyota Loan which he suggested I could just pay off on the first payment would cost the price of the rebate of $1,000." I told him, "who in their right mind would take out a $3,000 one month loan and pay a $1,000 for it..?" That's when everything started falling apart. He said, "Ok, $20,000 cash deal." I said, "Wait a minute. I just caught you trying to trick me out of money. And now your ready to just fall back to the safe original deal. You need to pay a penalty for that action, so I'm now making my off $19,500." When we left the Sales Manager said to me, "Toyota don't give out $3,000 loans anyway...!" What...? Then why did we go through all of this..? I could see on the salesman face as if to say, "what..? you knew they couldn't get the loan when they were offering cash..?" I got to have a beer and cigar, rethinking this Toyota deal is making my head spin... (but I have one more post about my dream last night..)

I dreamed that I was at my sister's house, and she lived in a mansion. I had to go to the bathroom, so I started searching the house for a bathroom. I kept looking and looking but I couldn't find one. I open this one door, and theirs my minister brother token on a bong. I'm like, "wow, I never expected to see that... pass that thing over here..!" Now I'm high in my dream. I'm still opening different doors and looking for the bathroom. I open this door, and it leads to the basement, so I go down. I open another door, and the room has a fully stocked bar in the back, with pools tables and a video arcade. I figure, "there's got to be a bathroom next to a bar..!" So I start looking all around the room and still can not find a bathroom. I passing this one video arcade game and it says, "test your bathroom skills, 25 cents..!" Test your bathroom skills, what the hell is that...? So I look at the end of the game and there's a toilet with the lid up. A piece of plexiglass is secured over the bowl, and it has a hole the size of a nickle in the middle. I'm thinking, "I can't piss through that little hole, it would make a big mess...!" And I'm high on top of it.... I look at the other end of the video game, and I can see there is another toilet on the other end. I walk to the other end and there's a toilet with the lid down. I'm thinking, "I'll just use this one." I pick up the lid, and the lid will only come up about 8 or 9 inches and then it hits some thing and won't open any further. What the hell is this toilet lid hitting to make it stop opening... So, I get down and look into the toilet to see what the lid is catching on, and a squirt of toilet water shoots out and hits me in the face, and the machine starts saying, "a a a no cheating, a a a no cheating...! And I started laughing my ass off so hard that I woke myself up and still couldn't stop laughing. I thought I'd better really go to the bathroom and I still could not stop laughing. I laughed for about 5 or 10 minutes at 2 a.m. Weird, huh..?

Nor do I, I just do my homework then go or sometimes even just call and tell them what I will pay giving myself a couple hundred $ +/- wiggle room and take it or leave it and you got 5 minutes to ask whoever you got to ask. Take it I write the check and drive off don't take it I walk immediately. Come running out the door with the old wait a minute - GFY. That simple and worked quite well since an airplane salesman friend taught me that trick about 30 years ago. Smaller dealers are much easier to work with usually.

Completely agree on the walking away. My last several deals were all leases. I've always heard that you should negotiate a price first as if you were buying it and then figure out the lease terms. That's never worked out for me. Once we switch over to lease talk the original price goes out the window. Then it becomes about what monthly payment are you willing to take on. I've been procrastinating on going to the car dealership. I'm due.

I just don't deal with that shit anymore, I go to a place that I know, have my internet info, say this is what I want, either they meet it or they don't. Have some flexibility, but clear walk away points. Ya always gotta be able to walk away.
Completely agree on the walking away. My last several deals were all leases. I've always heard that you should negotiate a price first as if you were buying it and then figure out the lease terms. That's never worked out for me. Once we switch over to lease talk the original price goes out the window. Then it becomes about what monthly payment are you willing to take on. I've been procrastinating on going to the car dealership. I'm due.

Nor do I, I just do my homework then go or sometimes even just call and tell them what I will pay giving myself a couple hundred $ +/- wiggle room and take it or leave it and you got 5 minutes to ask whoever you got to ask. Take it I write the check and drive off don't take it I walk immediately. Come running out the door with the old wait a minute - GFY. That simple and worked quite well since an airplane salesman friend taught me that trick about 30 years ago. Smaller dealers are much easier to work with usually.
The underlying principle to this is "Don't get attached to what you don't own." Car salesman get you with tantalization. You go in set on what you're going to get, and they show you a "better" deal that somehow always involves spending more money.
In my clan, we call it the Ferrari Rule. We have a friend who has a Ferrari and we have a standing offer to borrow it anytime. We don't take him up on it, because we might like it, and that way lies misery.

I can't recall what the MB3 tastes like or even if I've tried it. Although I can't image I wouldn't have had at least one over the years. I'm going to seek one out now though. I'm sure there's one in the humi.

Close between the two and I like both a lot but I tend to lean towards the MB3 as the preferred of the two. Chip is an MB3 fan also.
