In 1982, American Telephone and Telegraph settled the Justice Department's antitrust lawsuit against it by agreeing to divest itself of the 22 Bell System companies.
I was caught up in this one.  I was put on an inventory project that lasted almost a year.  Going to each AT&T and Southwestern Bell office from St. Louis, through Northern Missouri, then back down around the Lake of the Ozark and back.  Actually it was a nice job with a company car, clip board, expense vouchers, corporate discounts at motels, and no supervisors.
Whoa! A clipboard?
I guess if I could have afforded one of those new IBM Personal Computer 286's for around $3,000, it's may have been easier. But a clip board was allot lighter and only required a pencil compared to those expensive 5 1/4 floppy disk.
I built a 286 with two 5 1/4" floppies and no hard drive back in the fall of 1990. And it wasn't my first PC.
My first computer was a Tandy 1000 (Radio Shack), with a 3 1/2" floppy.  I had to buy a 5 1/4 floppy drive because software had not caught up to the 3 1/2.  Every Saturday night I'd get drunk and think there was something wrong with the computer and take it apart.  Sunday I would wake up to find my computer completely disassembled, and all over the living room floor.  This happened about 20 times but it taught me allot about computers, "don't get drunk and take your computer apart."

Think I'm going to be checking out with CommieDave and OnTheRagBiebs today.  This five day work week is a bitch!
Then you better get ready, cause I'm shutting down, and got one foot pointed at the door. Enjoy your weekend, all. Hazzuh!

Boy #1 has an interview in Maryland today, should hear from him after 4 or so on how it went.  Fingers crossed for him.

This the one who asked about how the lottery tickets worked?
Nope, that's the younger one.

...and it's the youngest boy at UGA and a daughter at Clemson? Guess the elder son has already graduated?

Good afternoon boys and girls.

Hey, Dad. Did Kenneth get you anything for Christmas, or just the usual grocery list. Oh, and did Miss Clause come to your house for a late night visit?
No gifts from Kenneth, but I didn't send him anything either.  I sort of like to keep that distance between us.  The wife had to work on Christmas, so I guess her gift to me was double time and a half... :)  You'd think I'd feel bad about her working on the holidays, but if she would have gotten a job like I asked her 43 years ago, we'd both have big pensions, big fat 401k's, and we could have been retired at the same time.  But Noooooo, she said, "I'm too stupid to work at a major corporation.."  And refused to get a job.  Now 33 years later, she get's a job at a corporation and says, "Ya know, those people are really stupid..!" And I say, "Well, you sure knew what you were taking about 43 years ago..."  Now all you have to do is put in 20 more years, and you can retire at 82...!

82 is the new 65. Feel like I couldn't even stop at this point. Probably be digging my own grave... at minimum wage... as a 2nd job.
