if I were doing something lasting longer than a few years yes, but all I really did was replace the 2 exising posts that were rotted, I used ground contact pressure treated so it'll last longer than the previous posts. new deck next year will have no wood below grade.

Since you used sonotube forms would not it have been simple to leave them sticking out above grade 6" - 12"?  Post ground contact avoided.

I think your crown molding will be in contact with the ground longer than Dean's post

Are you waiting for the Mamas to reappear?

According to Famous Mama's have been discontinued and all these recent Papa offers would indicate that for them.   Not shopping for either as I am very well stocked from the first Mash offering.

You can still find them in good supply at outer outlets. I picked up a box of the Papas in December (same Mash Deal) and this is the first week I've noticed them back... debating on getting another since they are rare appearances... and apparently could be discontinued. They are a great smoke.

Only 3 more in stock at Famous... there were 9 Monday.

Geez, the guy put a solid fix on this porch. If he came up that high, it'd be more concrete and he'd need an attachment bracket from the post to the footing. The old post was probably not even treated...sheesh

The post would still be in the concrete like now, just above grade.  No mounting bracket required.  But I'm sure the additional concrete for the 6" reveal would have busted the budget.

L post sitting on a 4"x1'x1' block. 16" diameter sonotube centered around post 2' deep, filled with concrete. drove galvanized 16d nails in post in concrete. not going anywhere. FUCK CODES. they said so long as I was replacing existing and it was BETTER than original there was no problem.
