Was out of pocket all day. Did get to share a couple of smokes and drinks with Charlie after work. Shocked to read the news about Barry. Hoping someone made a terrible mistake and it isn't true. If it is, I can't imagine what his kids are going through. My heart goes out to his family and may he eternally rest in peace.

HC connie toro going and coffee.

gotta hit the bank 1st thing this morning. the fraud department notified me about some suspicious action on my debit card last night. someone charged $98.78 at a 7-11 in Tampa, so I had my account closed. now I have to wait for a new card I'm sure. at least the charges were cleared off my account.

September 16 is...... National Play Doh Day

Play-Doh Day is an opportunity for everyone, whether a child or simply young at heart, to celebrate this iconic modelling clay. Play-Doh was originally developed in the 1930’s, not as a toy but as a product for cleaning wallpaper! It was not until the 1950’s that it was marketed as a toy, in the trademark vibrant colours of red, blue, yellow and white.

Smoked 3 cigars all day yesterday. They started shitty and got progressively better. The last one was a CAO Flathead Steel Horse Roadkill. It's a very round cigar (thought all Flatheads were box pressed) and tasty too. Definitely would smoke it again. Maybe even buy it.

Still hard to wrap my mind around. Missed out on meeting up with him a couple months ago because he ran a few hours late getting to a B&M in my area that was having an event. He eventually showed up, but by then, I couldn't make it back out. Wish I'd been able to now.

Really liked Wilmington, NC a lot, so much that we are going to make a house hunting trip there early next year.  Just about 1.5 hours from here and when they finish work on 2 roads should be only a little more than an hour.

I was told The Redfish is the State Fish in NC, lots of grass flats to fish in too.

Today is Friday, Sept. 16, the 260th day of 2016. There are 106 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Sept. 16, 1966, the Metropolitan Opera officially opened its new opera house at New York's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts with the world premiere of Samuel Barber's "Antony and Cleopatra."

On this date:

In 1498, Tomas de Torquemada, notorious for his role in the Spanish Inquisition, died in Avila, Spain.

In 1810, Mexicans were inspired to begin their successful revolt against Spanish rule by Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla and his "Grito de Dolores (Cry of Dolores)."

In 1893, more than 100,000 settlers swarmed onto a section of land in Oklahoma known as the "Cherokee Strip."

In 1908, General Motors was founded in Flint, Michigan, by William C. Durant.

In 1919, the American Legion received a national charter from Congress.

In 1925, the Irving Berlin song "Always" (written for his future wife, Ellin Mackay) was published.

In 1940, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Selective Training and Service Act. Samuel T. Rayburn of Texas was elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In 1953, "The Robe," the first movie presented in the widescreen process CinemaScope, had its world premiere at the Roxy Theater in New York.

In 1976, the Episcopal Church, at its General Convention in Minneapolis, formally approved the ordination of women as priests and bishops.

In 1982, the massacre of between 1,200 and 1,400 Palestinian men, women and children at the hands of Israeli-allied Christian Phalange militiamen began in west Beirut's Sabra and Shatila refugee camps.

In 1994, a federal jury in Anchorage, Alaska, ordered Exxon Corp. to pay $5 billion in punitive damages for the 1989 Exxon Valdez (val-DEEZ') oil spill (the U.S Supreme Court later reduced that amount to $507.5 million). Two astronauts from the space shuttle Discovery went on the first untethered spacewalk in ten years.

In 2007, O.J. Simpson was arrested in the alleged armed robbery of sports memorabilia collectors in Las Vegas. (Simpson was later convicted of kidnapping and armed robbery and sentenced to nine to 33 years in prison.)

Ten years ago: The Vatican said Pope Benedict XVI "sincerely" regretted offending Muslims with his reference to an obscure medieval text characterizing some of the teachings of Islam's founder as "evil and inhuman," but the statement stopped short of the apology demanded by Islamic leaders. Mexico extradited accused drug kingpin Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix (ah-ray-YAH'-noh fay-LEEKS') to the U.S. (Arellano Felix later pleaded guilty to federal charges of selling cocaine in a San Diego motel and was sentenced to six years in prison, but was returned to Mexico in 2008 after getting credit for time served in Mexico while awaiting extradition; he was killed in Oct. 2013 by a gunman disguised as a clown.)

Five years ago: President Barack Obama signed into law a major overhaul of the nation's patent system to ease the way for inventors to bring their products to market. A World War II-era fighter plane plunged into spectators during air races in Reno, Nevada, killing 74-year-old Florida stunt pilot Jimmy Leeward and 10 others. A Russian Soyuz capsule carrying three crew members, including NASA astronaut Ron Garan, from the International Space Station touched down safely in Kazakhstan, but not without rattling nerves after a breakdown in communications.

One year ago: Eleven Republican presidential candidates debated at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, wrangling over immigration, gay marriage and foreign affairs. Baton-wielding Hungarian riot police unleashed tear gas and water cannons against hundreds of migrants after they broke through a razor-wire fence and tried to surge into the country from Serbia. Country singer Sturgill Simpson and singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams, both eclectic genre-bending artists, took home top honors at the Americana Honors and Awards show in Nashville.

Thought for Today: "Stoicism is the wisdom of madness and cynicism the madness of wisdom." - Bergen Evans, American lexicographer (1904-1978).
Who better to provide wisdom that the daily lexicographer?

I will save others the trouble:

Today, we're looking at a word that is dear to our hearts: lexicographer. The ancient Greeks were some of the earliest makers of dictionaries; they used them mainly to catalog obsolete terms from their rich literary past. To create a word for writers of dictionaries, the Greeks sensibly attached the suffix -graphos, meaning "writer," to lexikon, meaning "dictionary," to form lexikographos, the direct ancestor of the English word lexicographer. Lexikon, which itself descends from Greek lexis (meaning "word" or "speech"), also gave us lexicon, which can mean either "dictionary" or "the vocabulary of a language, speaker, or subject."

Morning, all. Sorry to drop the Barry bomb and run yesterday, figured it was news worth passing on immediately. Short day for me, starting the weekend early at 11:30.
No problem Dave, much like the rumors of you in the bedroom, brief and to the point

Generally different with Debit Cards than Credit Cards, warden and sin both had those hijacked on different banks and had to sign a form and wait over a week after that for a replacement.  CC laws are far different (and more consumer friendly) than Debit Cards.

We even have "in" coolers today....son asked for a Yeti cooler....over $500!

Igloo has similar thermal insulation qualities for about half the price...(and with a discount and free ship!)  And it comes with interior LED lighting!

Yeti is a nice cooler, but way too expensive. Think I gave $80 for a 150 qt Coleman. It does the job. Ice lasts a few days with no problem and leaves plenty of money to stock it up!
Try this one, works as well at far lower cost.  The story is the Rtic founder was originally part of the Yeti founders, got pissed about something and created this competitor.

Nice! Always like a good competition...

@NJDave: What do you think of the Daruma Gold Roxxo deal? Seems like a no-brainer at the price
Solid deal.  Pushing into Cheapy Cheapo territory.  Can't believe the price they are still asking for Daruma Gold Papi Chulo's however.... ::)
Right? I'd hit them if they were the same price as the MCII's
They're sold out anyway, except for 5ers.

The company just fired a bunch more people this week. On the bright side their new marketing campaign is gonna launch this weekend during most of the college football games. They want to appeal to the millennials and tell them how to "be good at life". That should make all the old farts that got let go, feel better.

Didn't know it was insurance... but my point still stands and makes better sense from the perspective of a younger audience... more years of premiums with less chance of having to pay out a claim. win/win for them... greedy dicks!

That's true, but she does seem very down to earth for a royal... probably was not "approved" of.

welfare as I know it (in NY), is a joke. up to $1500 a month for a pos apartment, best healthcare in the country, food, utilities, transportation, clothing, a govt paid pet up to $600, vet care, cell phone etc. why the fuck should they work?

playing a benefit tourney Monday through a lady friend that works at a local radio station in promotions.
There was a tournament so I had to hit the range. At least I got to demo some irons. Good luck to you. That a scramble?
yep, 4 man scramble, $125 per man, paid for by the radio station.
Great format. Perfect price.

Where's Ogie... almost time for his cigar review of the day. Bet he's got another new release to tell us about.

Love those. I haven't played in years but back in the day my short game was really good. Scrambles were perfect because my horrible drive wouldn't count and then we'd play the best ball.

Yes, I do recall that detail.   Still gotta ask WTF happened, though perhaps it's just none of our business.

she wanted nothing to do with working on an old rundown farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. also, she gave up her parental rights of the kids to Barry, didn't want to be a mother.

I still haven't heard anything from other friends.  Seemed to be doing well, was more formally involved in a number of cigar lines, seemed happy if not excited for those ventures.
