Today is Monday, Sept. 12, the 256th day of 2016. There are 110 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Sept. 12, 1960, Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kennedy addressed questions about his Roman Catholic faith, telling the Greater Houston Ministerial Association, "I do not speak for my church on public matters, and the church does not speak for me."

On this date:

In 1814, the Battle of North Point took place in Maryland during the War of 1812 as American forces slowed British troops advancing on Baltimore.

In 1846, Elizabeth Barrett secretly married Robert Browning at St. Marylebone Church in London.

In 1914, during World War I, the First Battle of the Marne ended in an Allied victory against Germany.

In 1938, Adolf Hitler demanded the right of self-determination for the Sudeten (soo-DAYT'-un) Germans in Czechoslovakia.

In 1944, the Second Quebec Conference opened with President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in attendance.

In 1953, Massachusetts Sen. John F. Kennedy married Jacqueline Lee Bouvier (boo-vee-AY') in Newport, Rhode Island.

In 1966, "The Monkees" debuted on NBC-TV; "Family Affair" premiered on CBS.

In 1974, Emperor Haile Selassie (HY'-lee sehl-AH'-see) was deposed by Ethiopia's military after ruling for 58 years.

In 1977, South African black student leader Steve Biko (BEE'-koh) died while in police custody, triggering an international outcry.

In 1986, Joseph Cicippio (sih-SIHP'-ee-oh), the acting comptroller at the American University in Beirut, was kidnapped (he was released in December 1991).

In 1995, the Belarusian military shot down a hydrogen balloon during an international race, killing its two American pilots, John Stuart-Jervis and Alan Fraenckel.

In 2000, Hillary Rodham Clinton became the first first lady to win an election as she claimed victory in the New York Democratic Senate primary, defeating little-known opponent Dr. Mark McMahon.

Ten years ago: In a speech in his native Germany, Pope Benedict XVI said Islamic holy war was against God's nature and quoted a 14th-century Byzantine emperor, Manuel II Paleologos, as characterizing some teachings of Islam's founder as "evil and inhuman"; the pope's comments unleashed a torrent of rage across the Islamic world, prompting him to say he sincerely regretted that Muslims were offended. Syrian guards foiled an attempt by suspected al-Qaida-linked militants to blow up the U.S. Embassy in Damascus.

Five years ago: Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the perceived front-runner in the Republican presidential contest, endured an onslaught from seven rivals during a fractious two-hour debate in Tampa, Florida. Texana Hollis, a 101-year-old woman, was evicted from the southwest Detroit home where she had lived for nearly six decades after her son failed to pay the mortgage. (Hollis was allowed to move back into the house in April 2012 through the efforts of Detroit Free Press columnist Mitch Albom and his charity; Hollis died on Dec. 31, 2013 at the age of 103.) A leaking gasoline pipeline in Kenya's capital exploded, killing 119 people, according to the Kenya Red Cross. Novak Djokovic (NOH'-vak JOH'-kuh-vich) beat defending champion Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-ehl nah-DAHL') 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-1 to win his first U.S. Open championship. Leila Lopes of Angola was crowned Miss Universe at the pageant in Sao Paulo. Kurt Ziebart, 91, inventor of the Ziebart automobile rust-proofing process, died in Williamsburg, Michigan.

One year ago: Jeremy Corbyn, a veteran anti-war campaigner known for his unapologetically socialist views, won a landslide victory to lead Britain's opposition Labor Party in one of the country's biggest political shake-ups in decades. Playwright Frank D. Gilroy ("The Subject Was Roses") died in Monroe, New York, at age 89. Flavia Pennetta defeated fellow Italian Roberta Vinci in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 6-2, to become the oldest first-time women's major champion in the Open era; the 33-year-old Pennetta then announced her retirement.

September 12 is … National Chocolate Milkshake Day

Dating from 1885, Chocolate Milk Shake Day celebrates a drink loved by old and young alike. Originally served in bars, a milk shake was an alcoholic concoction of whisky, eggs and cream. If the customer enjoyed the drink, he shook hands and tipped the barman. By 1900, the whisky was replaced with chocolate, vanilla or strawberry syrup. In 1922, a Wahlgreen’s employee added Horlick’s malted milk powder to the mixture and the first malted shake was born. When Steven Poplawski invented the electric blender in 1922, the texture of milkshakes changed from smooth, thick and creamy to the frothy airy consistency loved today.

Celebrate this special day by going out with friends and family for chocolate shakes at a traditional soda fountain or check out recipes and blend some different chocolate shakes at home. And don’t forget the whipped cream!

Nica Rustica is a solid smoke at the $3-3.50 price point Famous has been providing us but they need at least several months of humi time IMHO.

The Giants stopped the run pretty well and had a few drives where they moved it very well. Other that that Dallas should have been up by 14 points

good morning Mark and Scott.
it's MONDAY!!!
I love Mondays!!!
Damn, you got that fan up and running already?
ha. I don't do electrical. waiting on a friend. got light disassembled from ceiling, fans put together and parts layed out ready to go.
Nor do I.
took 3 wiring attempts to finally get it to work.
Reminds me of the time my father installed an electrical receptacle box in the basement.  He plugged in a box fan, and said, "Damn look that that thing run... It looks like it could almost take off....?"  OH NO, "I wired it 220...!!!!"
Makes for spectacular splatter when the shit hits it. And nice, even distribution.

Hopefully like most, I always thought my dad was perfect.  But now that I look back, it's nice to know he made mistakes like I do.  Probably less thou.  That's not as funny as the time he got drunk and decided to put self-adjusting brakes on the car...  He said, "you just back up and tap the breaks and they will adjust their selves.  He kept backing up and backing up, until finally he was going about 40mph backwards and slamming on the breaks.  Finally he got the phone book out, and found a break place next to a tavern.  He took the car there and had a few drinks in the bar while waiting.  It turns out that he put the breaks on backwards (drum).  The mechanic said he just reversed each break.

Errands done, enjoyed one of my favorite fried seafood joints (Marshwalk) on the Inlet for lunch with son and some of his Inlaws.    Fried shrimp and a couple of Sam Adams Octoberfests on draft.

Looked at two condos on the marsh after lunch.  Also took a short spin in the Land Cruiser.

sound good, i had some cold barb-b-qued chicken for breakfast.  One of the stores up this way,
had split chicken breasts on sale for $0.99 lb in five pound family packs limit two.  So I bought the breasts,
then cut some nice cutlets off of one package, leaving really meaty frames to BBQ, and did the same to the
next package, then cut the cutlets into cubes, which I browned in some olive oil, and made a batch of Chicken Cacciatore.  Then I BBQ'ed the frames with some bbq sauce.  froze the cutlets, then grilled a couple of ribeye steaks,
I bought at the same time. wife took some of the chicken Cacciatore to work with her over pasta.

Maybe you can talk Chip and Joanna to take a little trip east and fix it up for ya.  There was supposed to be another "Fixer Upper" couple based in Charleston, but don't think they made airtime.  Maybe you can get them to do your work before they get too famous.

The show follows Ryan and Krystine Edwards, a married couple with two young boys from Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, as they use their interior design, construction and real estate expertise to help folks hunt for Charleston homes to completely gut and renovate.

Plus no good in a hurricane.  Too much limestone here, makes basements cost prohibitive, though when the tornadoes come calling a basement sure would come in handy.
