Drew Estate Herrera Esteli Toro (6.0"x52) 5-PACK for $27.50 at cigar.com daily deal. Not bad. I think they're usually $36 on the jam.

Today is Wednesday, July 13, the 195th day of 2016. There are 171 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On July 13, 1793, French revolutionary writer Jean-Paul Marat was stabbed to death in his bath by Charlotte Corday, who was executed four days later.

On this date:

In 1787, the Congress of the Confederation adopted the Northwest Ordinance, which established a government in the Northwest Territory, an area corresponding to the eastern half of the present-day Midwest.

In 1863, deadly rioting against the Civil War military draft erupted in New York City. (The insurrection was put down three days later.)

In 1939, Frank Sinatra made his first commercial recording, "From the Bottom of My Heart" and "Melancholy Mood," with Harry James and his Orchestra for the Brunswick label.

In 1955, Britain hanged Ruth Ellis, a 28-year-old former model and nightclub hostess convicted of killing her boyfriend, David Blakely (to date, Ellis is the last woman to be executed in the United Kingdom).

In 1960, John F. Kennedy won the Democratic presidential nomination on the first ballot at his party's convention in Los Angeles.

In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson nominated Thurgood Marshall to be U.S. Solicitor General; Marshall became the first black jurist appointed to the post. (Two years later, Johnson nominated Marshall to the U.S. Supreme Court.)

In 1972, George McGovern received the Democratic presidential nomination at the party's convention in Miami Beach.

In 1977, a blackout lasting 25 hours hit the New York City area.

In 1978, Lee Iacocca was fired as president of Ford Motor Co. by chairman Henry Ford II.

In 1985, "Live Aid," an international rock concert in London, Philadelphia, Moscow and Sydney, took place to raise money for Africa's starving people.

In 1990, the romantic fantasy "Ghost," starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, was released by Paramount Pictures.

In 1999, Angel Maturino Resendiz, suspected of being the "Railroad Killer," surrendered in El Paso, Texas. (Resendiz was executed in 2006.)

Ten years ago: Israel imposed a naval blockade against Lebanon and blasted the Beirut airport and army air bases; Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets into Israel. Former CIA officer Valerie Plame filed suit against Vice President Dick Cheney, presidential adviser Karl Rove and other White House officials, saying they'd orchestrated a "whispering campaign" to destroy her career. (A federal judge later dismissed the case, and an appeals court refused to revive the lawsuit.) Actor-comedian Red Buttons died in Los Angeles at age 87.

Five years ago: California became the first state in the nation to add lessons about gays and lesbians to social studies classes in public schools under a measure signed by Gov. Jerry Brown. Three coordinated bombings in India's busy financial capital killed 26 people in the worst terror attack in the country since the 2008 Mumbai siege. The United States earned its first trip to the Women's World Cup final since winning it in 1999 with a 3-1 victory over France. (Japan, which went on to win the Cup, upset Sweden 3-1 in the other semifinal.) The initial version of Snapchat, a mobile messaging app that lets people send photos, videos and messages that disappear in a few seconds, debuted under the name Picaboo in Apple's iOS App Store.

One year ago: Calling America "a nation of second chances," President Barack Obama cut the prison sentences of 46 non-violent drug offenders. Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old woman from suburban Chicago, was found hanged in a Waller County, Texas, jail cell three days after being arrested during a traffic stop; her death was ruled a suicide, a finding disputed by her family. New York City reached a $5.9 million settlement with the family of Eric Garner, a black man who died after being placed in a white police officer's chokehold. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker declared his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination.

Thought for Today: "If I were to wish for anything, I should not wish for wealth and power, but for the passionate sense of the potential, for the eye which, ever young and ardent, sees the possible. Pleasure disappoints, possibility never." - Soren Kierkegaard, Danish philosopher (1813-1855).

I don't know about that....I think wealth will go a long way to establishing a passionate sense of potential.

African dust cloud blowing through Texas

If you think the sky in Central Texas has looked a bit dirty recently, you are exactly right. In fact, it is literally ‘dirt,’ or more specifically, dust, blown here all the way from Africa.

The dust cloud was more prevalent Monday, as it began blowing into North Texas today, and should be be lifting completely out of Central Texas Wednesday. However, the next cloud of dust will reach South Texas Thursday and likely spread across our area again by Friday.

Hundreds of millions of tons of dust are picked up from the deserts of Africa and blown across the Atlantic Ocean each year

Don't know one way or the other abut 9 but here is one:

Pokemon Go Smartphone Game Leads Woman to Body in River

Authorities in central Wyoming are investigating after a woman playing the popular smartphone game Pokemon Go found a man's body in a river.

Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee says the death appears to be accidental and possibly a drowning. He says evidence indicates the man went into the water where he was found.

But considering that this game has people wandering through the woods, down streets and into places they are not familiar with (while being totally oblivious), it clearly offers up opportunities for foul play.

It's been all over FB for the last few days, ask your wife. Morning, Scott.
Sheesh, even I have known about it for almost a week and I don't even do FB.

But what's the problem?  There are 7 direct from Philly to Norfolk on American, 7 from Newark on United, 9 on Delta from Atlanta.  You just have to choose what hub you want to use.

Absolutely, on the snooze button. I'm lacking a bit of motivation these days. However I did get tons of work done already this week. I've got meetings over the next couple of days to "transition" my work and then I'm hoping to have more banter time starting next week.

Sightseeing has been spectacular all week and this morning was no different.

US appeals court refuses to reconsider QB Tom Brady's 'Deflategate' case...

A federal appeals court has rejected Tom Brady's attempt to get a new hearing on his "Deflategate" suspension.

Brady was asking for the full 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to hear the case. In April, a three-judge panel said that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was within his powers when he suspended the star quarterback four games for his role in a scheme to doctor the footballs used in a Jan. 18, 2015, playoff game.

The decision Wednesday affirms the wide-ranging powers given to the commissioner by the NFL's collective bargaining agreement and was a setback for organized labor groups arguing for due process in employee discipline.

Brady's remaining hope is to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Men are bad at math. There are more heterosexual women in the US (and the world) than men. If you're inclined to cheat, cheat with someone new. If you get caught, just go on to the next one.

There is no limit to democrat stupidity!

Democrats in the House and Senate have put forward legislation that would make it illegal for kids under age 16 to own or even handle machine guns or assault-style weapons.

The Help End Assault Rifle Tragedies Act, or the HEART Act, is a response to incidents at gun shows in which young children accidentally kill adults while handling weapons.

Doubt they know but the point is - What damn difference is some silly law going to make?

Scenario - Dad and 12 year old son go to gun show and dad says see how this big machine gun feels son, son choots dad and he is dead rat there (DRT).  So who broke the law, Dad I would say so wtf are they going to do jail him in a coffin?

There is no limit to democrat stupidity!

Democrats in the House and Senate have put forward legislation that would make it illegal for kids under age 16 to own or even handle machine guns or assault-style weapons.

The Help End Assault Rifle Tragedies Act, or the HEART Act, is a response to incidents at gun shows in which young children accidentally kill adults while handling weapons.
And how many have actually met that fate?

...and why would they be loaded at a gun show?
That was going to be my next question.
Every gun show I have ever been to (and that is a pretty big number) everything in there has a strap on it to prevent firing.

Exactly.
Gun violence has plunged while gun ownership has soared, according to Breitbart News, citing data from the early 1990s to the mid-teens.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released statistics showing that from 1993-2014, gun-related violence has steadily declined. The firearm homicide rate in 1993 of 6.6 per 100,000 dropped by more than half by 2014, to 3.43 per 100,000.

Meanwhile, gun ownership in America has steadily risen, to the point that there are more civilian-owned firearms than there are people in the U.S., The Washington Post has reported. The number of privately owned guns ballooned from 192 million in 1994 to 357 million in 2013.

And I'm putting my family at risk, and teaching violence to my children, and I belong to the NRA, so I'm enabling the destruction of the country, blah, blah, blah...
By the way, I don't own a gun but am considering joining the NRA. We need more organizations like it. Big gubment needs to stop. Unfortunately there really is too little, if any, difference between the two parties.
Please consider joining the Gun Owners of America rather than the NRA.  You don't have to own a gun.  They are much more representative of everyday gun owners than the NRA and very effective lobbyists.  They also use your money a lot more wisely.

Good morning, bitches!
Glad to see you finally rolled out of bed!
Rolling? Fat joke? I shouldn't have had that 4th slice of pizza last night?
Of course you should have, you're a beautiful Nubian princess.
Yeah, I am!
One out of three...
An Eyetalian Ehmerikan princess?
Afternoon Mr. BuckeyeBreath.
HotandHumidBreath.
My breath stop the banter?
Well, you're here, must be your fault. Was my fault all morning.
Just sharing the burden…
Think of it as an honor... where else do you get credit for influencing the direction of anything?

Their overhead % is exponentially lower and they don't spend more than your annual dues on junk mail postage to the members.  I dumped the NRA a long time ago.

Well, most of the junk mail is from marketing partners. Because the NRA can't use dues revenue for lobbying, they have corporate partners, which also extends their strength. Like I said, I support both. But NRA is the king of the hill, so far.

Tex is right, though. GOA is more efficient. That's because they are a straight lobbying group. NRA is two organizations. The NRA itself, and the NRA-ILA which is the lobbying company.

I don't doubt that GOA is a better organization. My point was more about wishing the cigar industry had a similar organization to the NRA that didn't kowtow to the squeaky wheels of this country by budging or compromising with regard to defending an individual's rights.

Well I will say that gun owners have been required to fight congress for their rights for a long long time but the cigar smokers have only in more recent years had to fight for their rights.  Also, guns are a hugely larger industry than cigars thus there are a lot more voices.
