Tiger Woods has agreed to plead guilty to reckless driving and will enter a diversion program that will allow him to have his record wiped clean if he completes the program, a prosecutor said Wednesday.

In the diversion program, Woods will spend a year on probation, pay a $250 fine and court costs, attend DUI school and perform 50 hours of community service. He would also have to attend a workshop where victims of impaired drivers detail how their lives were damaged and face other conditions. Since the program began four years ago, almost 2,400 defendants have enrolled, according to the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office.

Today is Thursday, Aug. 10, the 222nd day of 2017. There are 143 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On August 10, 1977, postal employee David Berkowitz was arrested in Yonkers, New York, accused of being "Son of Sam," the gunman who killed six people and wounded seven others in the New York City area. (Berkowitz is serving six consecutive 25-years-to-life sentences.)

On this date:

In 1680, Pueblo Indians launched a successful revolt against Spanish colonists in present-day New Mexico.

In 1792, during the French Revolution, mobs in Paris attacked the Tuileries (TWEE'-luh-reez) Palace, where King Louis XVI resided. (The king was later arrested, put on trial for treason, and executed.)

In 1821, Missouri became the 24th state.

In 1846, President James K. Polk signed a measure establishing the Smithsonian Institution.

In 1874, Herbert Clark Hoover, the 31st president of the United States, was born in West Branch, Iowa.

In 1921, Franklin D. Roosevelt was stricken with polio at his summer home on the Canadian island of Campobello.

In 1949, the National Military Establishment was renamed the Department of Defense.

In 1962, the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum was dedicated in West Branch, Iowa, on the 88th birthday of the former president, who attended the ceremony along with former President Harry S. Truman. Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man made his debut in issue 15 of "Amazing Fantasy" (cover price: 12 cents).

In 1969, Leno and Rosemary LaBianca were murdered in their Los Angeles home by members of Charles Manson's cult, one day after actress Sharon Tate and four other people were slain.

In 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed a measure providing $20,000 payments to still-living Japanese-Americans who were interned by their government during World War II.

In 1991, nine Buddhists were found slain at their temple outside Phoenix, Arizona. (Two teen-agers were later arrested; one was sentenced to life in prison, while the other received 281 years.)

In 1993, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was sworn in as the second female justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ten years ago: Three men being lowered into a southern Indiana coal mine were killed when a nylon sling attached to the bucket the men were riding in got caught, causing the bucket to tip and sending them plummeting more than 500 feet to their deaths.

Five years ago: A man in an Afghan army uniform shot and killed three American service members in southern Afghanistan; the Taliban claimed the shooter joined the insurgency after the attack. At the London Olympics, the United States won the women's 4x100-meter track relay in a world-record time of 40.82 seconds to give the Americans their first victory in the event since 1996.

One year ago: During a raucous campaign rally outside Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Republican Donald Trump accused President Barack Obama of being the "founder" of the Islamic State group. (Trump later said he was "being sarcastic" before adding, "but not that sarcastic, to be honest with you.") Lonnie Franklin Jr., the Los Angeles serial killer known as the "Grim Sleeper," was sentenced to death for the murders of nine women and a teenage girl. At the Rio Olympics, Katie Ledecky turned in another overpowering performance to carry the United States to victory in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay. John Saunders, the versatile sportscaster who hosted ESPN's "The Sports Reporters" for 15 years, died in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, at age 61.

LMAO, there is an advertisement on tv every morning about this tine for a Chinese Buffet in a scetchy part of town.  One of their scenes is the Mongolian Grill but as the "chef" is scraping the food off the grill and onto the plate it clearly shows some of the food falling off onto the floor.

I disagree with the analogies. Most of the time when I visit a b&m, I spend time there smoking. But many people walk in and make a to-go purchase. That's not the case at a bar or restaurant.

How does to-go or not-to-go have a bearing on the argument?  You'd better let the warden negotiate the new car deal, you've adopted UN-think.

A lot of lower volume smokers go to B&M's thinking they will get some good advice on purchases...... Well if you think there is much or any validity to that then send the warden to a few B&M's to buy some cigars per their recommendations and see what she comes home with.

When we went to the new B&M for the Saturday retirement Herf the first thing the guy did was try to sell me on an RyJ.

Edit:  if Amazon sold Cigars the end of B&M's would be near but since newbies and low volume smokers have to search out good vendors, none of which they have ever heard of, they go to B&M's.

Edit:  if Amazon sold Cigars the end of B&M's would be near but since newbies and low volume smokers have to search out good vendors, none of which they have ever heard of, they go to B&M's.
At least Prime members wouldn't have to worry about shipping costs anymore.

Not a bad joecigar deal.
Something different and decent for a change.
Pricing is maybe a little eh....
But if you compare it to b&m pricing...
IMFO B&M pricing is an irrelevant reference point.
Agreed, you don't compare the price of beer at a bar to that at a liquor store, do you?
Exactly, or wine at a restaurant to wine at the grocery store.

Or Bean's Deals vs 21st century deals.
LMFAO, Indeed!
GFY. You all know exactly what I mean.
Bar and restaurant alcohol sales are exclusively on-premise consumption.  B&M cigar purchases are not.  So yeah, the analogy is poor.  I was just fishing for a GFY.

And Amazon could get B&M prices because everyone just assumes Amazon has lower prices but most are aware of the existence of knockoff cigars and probably would not trust EBay on them, which is a valid idea.

I use a certain kind of shampoo which is generally  not available at many stores, and recently Needed to restock. Amazon and EBay had it available for $10-12/bottle which is cheaper then the $15 at most barber shops.  HEB Grocery here actually sells it for $4.57/bottle, thus the assumption that Amazon and EBay are cheaper is nothing more than good marketing.

And Amazon uses sophisticated computer metrics which vary the price of an item depending on purchase location, prior purchase history, and availability.  And B&M retailers are fighting for their collective lives so have learned to be price competitive with their on-line stores.

Amazon's prices seem to factor in shipping, even with free shipping. But even with that, they're the best price a good majority of the time.

What timing, and on this very topic from HalfWheel Today:

Smokers in New York City could soon be looking at a significant increase of tobacco products if a proposal scheduled to go before the New York City Council today gets approved.

Int. No. 1544-B was introduced back in April, but the proposal underwent an amendment during its hearing by the council’s Committee on Health yesterday that makes the taxes even more punishing.

Passed 7-0 with two members absent, the bill would establish a price floor of $8 per cigar when sold individually, a minimum that must be established before OTP and sales taxes are added. For box sales, the price floor would be established by multiplying the number of cigars in the box by $1.75, and then adding $6.25.

It would also establish a new excise tax of 10 percent of the price floor, or 80 cents per stick when sold individually. For a box purchase, the tax would be 80 cents for the first cigar, and then 17.5 for each additional cigar. In effect, it would make the minimum price of a cigar sold in New York City $8.80, and that’s before the state’s effective tax rate of 28.5 percent of the wholesale price.

The bill would also increase the minimum price on a pack of cigarettes cigarettes while establishing price floors and raising the taxes on little cigars, smokeless tobacco, suns, shisha and loose tobacco.

Funds raised from the increase would be directed to the New York City Housing Authority, which oversees the city’s public housing.

Beyond the newbie factor, browsing a decent B&M for a 2-3 sticks one hasn't tried is fun.  And they can be a good place to enjoy a smoke when the weather sucks.
True, but it comes at a price and in high tax states it comes at a big price.
Indeed.

First time I've ever heard of a price floor. Sounds like a truly asinine concept. Fuk'n commies!
Indeed.  Just come on over to Jersey and visit Jamie's.  Fukin' NY commies.

I wonder how anyone can work or live there, but I suppose one can adapt to just about any commie situation.  TxDave vs City of Austin for example.

Volume. When you have 8 million people in the city, even if a tiny percentage are stupid enough to keep buying at those prices, you can stay in business. Hopefully.

Very true. I actually prefer the JJ as well, but if one wanted to mix and match... pick 3 different 5pk vitolas using the "over $100 method", and I think you'd come out better than their sampler per stick.

Contemplating a box of Namakubi PCs for $142.48

They are definitely getting more difficult to locate... That's not a bad price considering the Namakubi was one not really getting the *discounts on earlier inventory dumps. I picked up 2 boxes of Roxxo's earlier this year @$65 ea.

Looks like we will be able to move the closing up about 10 days or so on the new home .
Nice! Did you end up going the Condo/Towne house route instead of building?
Howdy BS, yes we found a 4th floor Condo with a boat slip on the Intracoastal Waterway.  It is on the south edge of Myrtle Beach.
Sounds like BS missed the entire condo asking-price-offer-but-taking-it-off-the-market douchebag episode.

DEVELOP YOUR PALATE – CREAM | WARPED COLMENA REINA

Of all the tasting notes that we’ve selected for today’s article, we’re starting with the hardest one to describe. That’s because cream can be both a texture as well as a flavor.  Cigar smoke can be creamy as well as maintain the flavor profile of different forms of cream: heavy whipping cream, home-made whipped cream, butter, you know the deal.

But most of the time when cigar enthusiasts describe a cigar as being creamy, they’re describing the creamy texture of the smoke.  Enter the Warped Colmena Reina, an exclusive cigar to Small Batch that delivers on both accounts.  Once lit, you’ll find that creamy texture as well as sweetened home-made whipped cream among other complex flavors.

DEVELOP YOUR PALATE – EARTH | ALL OUT KINGS

Earth comes in many shapes and sizes but is unmistakable in just about any cigar in the Liga Privada series.  To broaden our horizons, we selected the All Out Kings collaboration between Robert Caldwell, Willie Herrera, and Jonathan Drew. This cigar features the Liga Privada T-52 wrapper and is the perfect introduction to an earthy cigar.

Of course, earth is such a broad term that once you discover it you’ll be hard-pressed to just call it earth afterward. There’s dry dirt, wet soil, clay, damp (dank) earth, etc.  And different cigars will project different nuances of earth over the course of the experience. Once lit, All Out Kings will initiate you into earthy tasting notes with what Andrew calls, “sweaty earth.”

DEVELOP YOUR PALATE – CEDAR | CALDWELL BLIND MAN’S BLUFF

Cedar is probably one of the easiest and hardest tasting notes to identify in today’s selection.  Once noticed, it sticks out like a sore thumb, but this flavor is extremely adept at blending into a profile.  For that reason, we chose a veritable cedar bomb to bring the concept home.

Cedar is just one of many woods that are commonly tasted in cigars, with oak and the occasional hickory flavors following suit. One easy way to identify the cedar in this cigar is to take a piece from a cigar box and smell it while you enjoy the Blind Man’s Bluff.  Once lit, you can expect a non-stop cedar experience.

DEVELOP YOUR PALATE – DARK CHOCOLATE | CROWNED HEADS LE CAREME

Jon Huber and Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr. conceptualized this cigar to taste like a chocolate soufflé after it’s namesake, Marie Antoine Careme, the champion of soufflés.  And we think they hit the nail on the head with this one, showcasing the perfect example of dark chocolate in a cigar’s flavor profile.

It’s important to note that chocolate comes in many varietals, and we chose Le Careme for dark chocolate bordering on cocoa powder.  This version of chocolate is stronger, more bitter, and less refined than milk chocolate. Once lit, Le Careme will illustrate several different forms of dark chocolate in a very unique way.

DEVELOPING YOUR PALATE – PEPPER | QUESADA 40TH PETITE BELICOSO

When searching for a cigar that demonstrated pepper, we wanted to make sure to give you an unparalleled pepper experience. While Pepin is known for pepper, this little firecracker shows up to show out.  The Quesada 40th Petite Belicoso is another exclusive made just for Small Batch.

Like everything above, there are caveats to this tasting note as well.  When developing your palate, you’ll notice that there are flavors of peppercorn as well as the heat associated with it.  When most cigar enthusiasts discuss pepper, however, they’re describing the spicy nature unless it's denoted as peppercorn.  And getting further into the weeds, advanced palates can occasionally distinguish the differences between white, red, and black pepper.  Once lit, expect this particular Quesada 40th to resonate pepper for the first inch or so before dialing it back for some much needed relief.

This IS the swamp. But in this case, the swampites are epidemiologists who actually passed statistics in college. So I have to show my work so they can verify whether I did it correctly. So I don't get to make it up. That the statistics are stupid is irrelevant. ;-)

It's actually akin to that. They give me all these pseudocode variables for checking. I don't use them for the selection logic, but I display them all in the reports, which makes them happy. Then, when they come up with their results, I show them where their error is and why I'm correct. Then they are doubly happy.

@ Bean....hopefully your guys eventually got to the east coast.  When do they (try to) head home?  Weather supposed to get crappy again tomorrow evening.
They were supposed to arrive early afternoon, finally landed at 8 pm.  They're out there until the end of next week.

98 degrees with heat index of 112, Sheesh!
Don't you have a shady courtyard by the pool?
Pool side is sunny in the afternoon but there is a shady sitting area in the front.  Problem is when it is this hot and the wind is blowing it is like an oven in the shade.
Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch. Sheesh.

No kidding. 98 deg, 70 deg dewpoint, fit for neither man nor beast.  Or at least a cigar smoking man.  I will have the guys build me a mini-man cave in the shop.  We have one of those move'n'cools we aren't using which will become the A/C supply, small exhaust fan with desk and ceiling height exhaust points, good to go.
