Here I'm gonna see Black bears, and if I see a Brown it will be a very, very rare occasion. I'm a pretty good shot and I'm pretty good under pressure, so I could probably be fine with a .357. But a 10mm or .44 Magnum offers the extra margin, while still being carryable.Truth be told, I'm more likely to come up against a Cougar (the four-legged kind) than a bear, but cougs are a damned sight easier to kill than bears.And I still plan on getting a .45-70 rifle anyway.
