For the past eight months, we’ve been sharing with you a decades-old problem that has been destroying America’s Everglades. We invited you to join us in urging Florida’s lawmakers to pass legislation to protect and restore this great ecological treasure. As we expected, you rose to the challenge.
After the bill passed with overwhelming majorities in both the Florida House and Senate, Governor Rick Scott signed into law legislation authorizing the creation of a southern storage reservoir, which will mitigate harmful discharges from Lake Okeechobee. This law lays the groundwork to put the Everglades on the path to restored health.
We want to thank all of you who sent letters and emails, who picked up a phone and made a call, and who endlessly texted WATER to 52886! Thanks to your commitment, we can look forward with renewed hope and optimism to a brighter future for Florida Bay and the Everglades. Be proud!
