November 29 is............ Square Dancing Day

Square Dancing Day exists to celebrate the square dance form of folk dancing, and is a great excuse to get out and “Dosey Do”. This fun, healthy and simple form of dance with a long history definitely deserves a holiday all of its own, and it has one!

The History of Square Dancing Day

Square Dancing has its roots in traditional English, Irish and Scottish folk dance. Square dances were first documented in 17th-century England . They came to North America right along with the European settlers, where they were modified and improved over the years. The Western American square dance is perhaps the most famous type of square dance worldwide; in fact, the suware dance is the official dance of 19 American states. Square dancing is mainly associated with a romanticized image of the Old West, and cowboys wooing Southern belles during dances organized at saloons to celebrate various occasions. The dance is accompanied by jolly, lively music on guitars, fiddles, accordions and bagpipes. The dances normally form patterns of lines, circles and, as the name suggests, squares, with couples – male/female, female/female or male/male – taking a turn in every role. In most American forms of square dance, the dancers are prompted through the square dance choreography to the beat of the music. Sometimes, this so-called “caller” is one of the dancers, but more commonly the “caller” is found on the stage with the band. Interest in square dancing, which had waned during the World Wars, experienced a revival in New York City in the 1950s, during the American folk music revival.

Ten years ago: The first of two high-profile meetings in Jordan between President George W. Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki (NOO'-ree ahl-MAHL'-ih-kee) was abruptly canceled amid conflicting explanations. (Bush met al-Maliki the next day.) Still losing money after job and factory cuts, Ford Motor Co. said 38,000 workers, almost half of its hourly production force, had accepted buyouts or early retirement offers.

Five years ago: Eurozone ministers sent Greece an 8 billion-euro ($10.7 billion) Christmas rescue package to stem an immediate cash crisis. Hard-line Iranian protesters stormed British diplomatic compounds in what began as an apparent state-approved show of anger over the latest Western sanctions to punish Tehran for its nuclear program. American Airlines' parent company, AMR Corp., filed for bankruptcy protection, citing high labor and fuel costs and the weak economy. (American Airlines emerged from bankruptcy protection in Dec. 2013 as it merged with US Airways.)

One year ago: President Barack Obama, arriving in Paris late at night for a climate conference, briefly visited the Bataclan, the concert hall that was the scene of the worst of France's terror attacks 16 days earlier. Pope Francis visited the conflict-wracked Central African Republic, where he urged the country's Christian and Muslim factions to lay down their weapons and instead arm themselves with peace and forgiveness. Andy Murray gave Britain its first Davis Cup title in 79 years when he beat Belgium's David Goffin 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 in the first of reverse singles.

Important to set ground rules immediately. Some of my friend's kids write notes to the elves every night and the parents have to respond using a different hand-writing. We never answered back and told the kids that the elves don't know how to read/write in English.

Also if you forget to move him, tell them that the elf is giving them a 2nd chance and didn't want to go report back something bad I'm sure they did the day before.

This is healthy for their mental well being, right?

In my kids' case, that's true too. I can even grow a white beard and look nice in red.
Isn't it amazing that you could grow hair on you face at will, but your head...not so much

Morning Elfs
Slacker forgot his countdown...hopefully he didn't forget to hide the elf....
I didn't forget. Thanks for worrying about me.
I always do!
I worry about any parent that has to do that stupid elf. So glad no one ever mentioned it to my kids. Lol
Funny thing, my sister bought it for our kids before we knew anything about it...I need to give her a call

I don't think it's any worse that a fat man who watches them all year round, even when they're sleeping. I mean, geez!
Don't be so hard on yourself!
Zing!

Sounds like your sister was trying to get revenge for something in your childhood.
Did you ever buy her kids drums for Christmas?
Can't even get her back, she never had kids. I charge a bunch of stuff on her beach club account each year to make up for it

It's not her fault then. They just think they're being good aunts and uncles. Same goes for my brother. It takes having kids to realize the misery they've instilled upon you. They know not what they're doing so we must forgive... And charge shit to their beach club account.

Santa's no dope. That's why he's up at the North Pole. Too cold for demonstrations and revolutions. Those don't go past the temperate zones.

I wonder if this is how Tony feels most of the time.
Confused?
housework. although a good woman around to do it for me would be nice, if only they visited and didn't move in.
Amen.
one thing about the lady, when she gets manic she loves to clean, but you just have to keep your distance and stay away.
Never a dull moment in FL!
I know right? and I love dull and boring.
I shall call bull on that statement!

Generally speaking, if you have them do housework, they are either a maid and expect to be paid, or they've moved in.
They get their your money one way or the other.
Fixed it for you
I stand corrected.

Meeting had a break so I exercised my KMA Club rights and here I am home with a gifted EPC of an unknown variety.  FDA should have required lable stop have the Fuk'n names on them, that would be worthwhile.

Meanwhile the meeting continues until 4:30 without me, :)

California regulates cow farts

Despite strong opposition from farmers, Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation in September that for the first time regulates heat-trapping gases from livestock operations and landfills.

Cattle and other farm animals are major sources of methane, a greenhouse gas many times more potent than carbon dioxide as a heat-trapping gas. Methane is released when they belch, pass gas and make manure.

"If we can reduce emissions of methane, we can really help to slow global warming," said Ryan McCarthy, a science adviser for the California Air Resources Board, which is drawing up rules to implement the new law.

Livestock are responsible for 14.5 percent of human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, with beef and dairy production accounting for the bulk of it, according to a 2013 United Nations report.
