Never even picked up a 42 but they have not been to popular. 43 is an ok piece but she might also consider a M&P Shield or a Springfield XDs. I carry an XDs often and like it.
All good just a matter of which one is more comfortable in her hand.

I have that one (though not the pink version). It is small and lightweight so would work for her. It's not fun at the range, though, as those low profile sights make it harder to aim. One other detail, is there is a notch on the LH bottom of the slide which might catch her thumbnail if she isn't disciplined with her hand/thumb position. The warden complained about that issue when she shot it.
