It's Tuesday again! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars. Join in and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!
-
Here's hoping the jam will be more entertaining than a normal two-turd Tuesday.

Ave Maria day at the Sis.

Today is Tuesday, Aug. 30, the 243rd day of 2016. There are 123 days left in the year.
Today's Highlight in History:
On Aug. 30, 1861, Union Gen. John C. Fremont instituted martial law in Missouri and declared slaves there to be free. (However, Fremont's emancipation order was countermanded by President Abraham Lincoln).
On this date:
In 1862, Confederate forces won victories against the Union at the Second Battle of Bull Run in Manassas, Virginia, and the Battle of Richmond in Kentucky.
In 1905, Ty Cobb made his major-league debut as a player for the Detroit Tigers, hitting a double in his first at-bat in a game against the New York Highlanders. (The Tigers won, 5-3.)
In 1935, the film "Anna Karenina," MGM's version of the Tolstoy novel starring Greta Garbo, opened in New York.
In 1945, U.S. Gen. Douglas MacArthur arrived in Japan to set up Allied occupation headquarters.
In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, which was intended to promote private development of nuclear energy.
In 1963, the "Hot Line" communications link between Washington and Moscow went into operation.
In 1967, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Thurgood Marshall as the first black justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.
In 1983, Guion S. Bluford Jr. became the first black American astronaut to travel in space as he blasted off aboard the Challenger.
In 1984, the space shuttle Discovery was launched on its inaugural flight.
In 1986, Soviet authorities arrested Nicholas Daniloff, a correspondent for U.S. News and World Report, as a spy a week after American officials arrested Gennadiy Zakharov, a Soviet employee of the United Nations, on espionage charges in New York. (Both men were later released.)
In 1989, a federal jury in New York found "hotel queen" Leona Helmsley guilty of income tax evasion, but acquitted her of extortion. (Helmsley ended up serving 18 months behind bars, a month at a halfway house and two months under house arrest.)
In 1991, Azerbaijan (ah-zur-by-JAHN') declared its independence, joining the stampede of republics seeking to secede from the Soviet Union.
Ten years ago: Hurricane John lashed tourist resorts with heavy winds and rain as the dangerous Category 4 storm marched up Mexico's Pacific coast. Actor Glenn Ford died in Beverly Hills, California, at age 90. Naguib Mahfouz (nuh-GEEB' mah-FOOS'), the first Arab writer to win the Nobel Prize in literature, died in Cairo, Egypt, at age 94.
Five years ago: National Guard helicopters rushed food and water to a dozen cut-off Vermont towns after the rainy remnants of Hurricane Irene washed out roads and bridges in a deluge that had taken many people in the landlocked New England state by surprise. Libyan rebels said they were closing in on Moammar Gadhafi and issued an ultimatum to loyalists in his hometown of Sirte (surt), his main remaining bastion: Surrender, or face attack.
One year ago: The White House announced that President Barack Obama would change the name of North America's tallest mountain peak from Mount McKinley to Denali, bestowing the traditional Alaska Native name on the eve of a historic presidential visit to Alaska. Jake Arrieta pitched the sixth no-hitter of the season and second against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 10 days, leading the Chicago Cubs to a 2-0 victory. Tokyo won the Little League World Series, defeating Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, 18-11. Neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks, 82, author of "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat," died in New York. Movie writer-director Wes Craven, 76, who startled audiences with suburban slashers like "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Scream," died in Los Angeles.

Pretty much did not mention anything that the least bit of common sense would not cover, not to speak of when a real estate agent "purges" your house before it officially goes on the market. Anything to do with guns, hunting, animals, smoking, drinking or other of life's pleasures has to go in this fuct up country we now live in.

Good morning, guys.
Morning Mayor T.
-
Work done for today, now got to entertain myself for the next 8 hours.
-
When Tennessee offensive lineman Jashon Robertson was asked about Thursday night opponent Appalachian State (7:30 PM ET, SEC Network), he said of the Mountaineers: "We see guys who strain their butts off." I get what he's saying. It's a compliment. They work hard. But it still makes me uncomfortable reading it.

A Whale of a Fail
The winner of this year’s White Marlin Open allegedly failed a polygraph test, but he refuses to return the $2.8 million in prize money he received.
A little more than a week has passed since SCD brought you the story of a tournament angler who won first, second, and third place for a single fish. Phillip Heasley of the Kallianassa boated a 76½-pound marlin on August 9, the second day of this year’s White Marlin Open. While the fish itself wasn’t particularly large in the annals of the tournament, it was the winning catch because no one else landed anything that qualified for the competition.
As a result, Heasley was set to win $2,818,662 million—his first-place winnings and the monies set aside for second and third place. He was set to win that amount; a polygraph test administered after the tournament victory and his alleged failure to pass said test have led to Heasley’s disqualification and a courtroom drama.
According to court documents entered by the WMO, the polygraph was administered August 13, the day after the tournament closed. Heasley the captain of the Kallianassa, both took the test, with the officials asking them a series of questions. Three questions threw up red flags:
1) “Did you commit any Tournament violations on Tuesday?”
2) “Did you commit any Tournament violations on your vessel?”
3) “Did you commit any Tournament violations?”
The two reportedly answered “No,” “No,” “No,” but the polygraph showed “Yes,” “Yes,” “Yes.” Three other crew members also allegedly lied in their polygraph tests, with it eventually coming to light that the winning marlin had been caught at 8:15 a.m. the morning of August 9. Tournament rules required the catch to be made after 8:30 a.m. to qualify; the time-of-catch on the boat’s logs appeared to have been changed to read “9:05 a.m.” sometime later.

Tension on the high seas!
It was in FL so why is it that I just keep on thinking Dean has to be involved somehow somewhere simply by association?

The winner of this year’s White Marlin Open allegedly failed a polygraph test, but he refuses to return the $2.8 million in prize money he received.
A little more than a week has passed since SCD brought you the story of a tournament angler who won first, second, and third place for a single fish. Phillip Heasley of the Kallianassa boated a 76½-pound marlin on August 9, the second day of this year’s White Marlin Open. While the fish itself wasn’t particularly large in the annals of the tournament, it was the winning catch because no one else landed anything that qualified for the competition.

IMHO the Toro is the least desirable in the Laranja line but still an outstanding cigar.
Yeah, but what does NJDave say... since it's his cigar! ;D
My preference is the Corona Gorda (5 5/8 x 46) or the Caixa Short Churchill (6 1/2 x 48)
I think I knew that already from past discussion, but you do seem to prefer a toro is most others... which is why I probably remembered this one.

Mash has a couple Free Shipping prospects. CroMagnon Mode 5 & Clemson toros... the there's always the NR standard. And today is even the sub-$20 version.
Have 5 pack of El Brujito for 19.98 or 10 for 37.98....
...and no bargain on the Clemson's..... >:(
NR Standard is the El Brujito... and you gotta use the 20% code. I thought $6.71 ea. was pretty good. Jam was $34 months ago. Haven't been on since. ;)
20LABOR
Doesn't that require a $100+ purchase?
Yea....but it's for your son.......
Guess we could do a Low Country Split with them.
Don't get all worked up. I think there was only 3 2 5ers... even though your son is worth it!
[edit]
But he saves $2 if he goes with the 10's over the 5ers.

You get those Chiefs from Smoke Inn or Atlantic?
Musta been Atlantic. I don't see any inventory at Smoke Inn... which is odd for a new release.
Plus he's a VIP sales rep there, so...
I know, Right. A 5er is $61 there, but I'm sure that's not Rep price... They are B/O for the vitola I'm looking for anyway.

Yea, varies. A lot of Corona's today are pretty much Toro's. Tend toward toro with Connies and the likes of Perdomo, AJF and EPC....also a number of lines just don't offer decent Corona's (like EPC). Warped line has a number of nice offerings in smaller RG.

Besides the Lancero those would definitely be the two best ones and I lean toward the Caixa.
Well, the lancero isn't commonly available to non-Texans..... ;)
Caixa also tends to be less available... :(

Those are enjoying life to its fullest for me - GFY for evening mentioning a swimming pool much less comparing it to the finer things life has to offer!

Well I got some city slicker friends up north that keep me up on the more refined things in life.
Even when they're "Texas" cigars.
Correct, but Texas is pretty cosmopolitan in the big cities but don't tell Golf that it would spoil his image.

They probably hope he will walk out and lose out on his severance package.

Colin Kaepernick’s Mother: He’s Brought Shame To Family. This isn’t the right way to handle it. We think he’s being brainwashed under the influence of his BLM girlfriend.
True, that's his birth mother, not the (white) mother and father who raised him.
But his birth mother is also white.

Good evening, national anthem heart holders.

I don't know how to tell them to go fuck themselves without fear of missing out on my severance. I keep being threatened. Which is why I can't wait to get the heck out. Most guys in my position are laying real low and hardly even showing up. In contrast, they are working me to death.

I'm currently working on a project and saving their collective asses. I keep warning them that all this knowledge for the new project will leave with me and they really ought to get me someone to transition to. They don't seem to want to hear it. So when something breaks after I leave, heads will definitely roll.

My neighbor that fell and suffered heavy brain damage passed away this afternoon.
I'm sorry to hear it.

Sorry to hear that.
He was a nice fellow but 80 years old but in pretty good shape and just shows how fast it can all end.
Sorry about that, Dave. And yeah, can happen fast. That's what I prefer.

Huh, what a coincident, me too. Six kids in our family. My dad used to joke that it wasn't until after the fifth one they figured out what was causing it.

Indeed. I told the warden before I get too f'kn' old I'll just ride the motorcycle over a cliff. She wasn't amused. Wardens, sheesh.

Is anyone else bugged that Small Batch Cigars don't include a link in their promotional emails? WTF, Marketing 101.

Well would you rather have plenty of links to chitty cigars like Famous, CI and the Sister?

The thing is they are never amused at such but at the same time they don't believe you are serious. Mine still thinks I am kidding about retiring, hopefully the October dumpster delivery will wake her up.

How could she think you are kidding? If she heard have the schitt from you about your job we have, there is no way she would think you weren't serious. Hell, WE want to retire from your job. I would have lost my mind long ago.

Oh lord, 62 RG La Perla's up on the jam now. Just shoot me for watching that schitt show parade.
