Today's Highlight in History:

On October 12, 1915, English nurse Edith Cavell was executed by a German firing squad for helping Allied soldiers escape from occupied Belgium during World War I. (The night before the sentence was carried out, Cavell met with chaplain H. Stirling Gahan, who later quoted her as saying: "I realize that patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards any one.")

Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?
-------------------------

DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken won't
realize that he must first deal with his problems on "THIS" side of the
road before it goes after his problems on the "OTHER SIDE" of the road.
What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he's acting by not
taking on his "CURRENT" problems before adding "NEW" problems.

OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems,
which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having
the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of
life, I'm going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive
across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.

COLIN POWELL: Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly
see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road ..

ANDERSON COOPER - CNN: We have reason to believe there is a
chicken, but we have not yet been allowed access to the other side of
the road.

JOHN KERRY: Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road,
I am now against it. It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled
about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain
against it. Probably.

NANCY GRACE: That chicken crossed the road because he's GUILTY!
You can see it in his eyes, and in the way he walks.

PAT BUCHANAN: To steal the job of a decent, hardworking
American.

MARTHA STEWART: No one called me to warn me what direction
that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer's Market to
sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave
me any insider information.

DR SEUSS: Did the chicken - cross the road? Did he cross it -
with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road - but why it crossed -
I've not been told!

ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die in the rain. Alone.

JERRY FALWELL: Because the chicken is gay! Can't you people
see the plain truth in front of your face? The chicken was going to
the "other side." That's why they call it, the "other side." Yes, my
friends, that chicken is gay. And if you eat that chicken, you will
become gay too. I say we boycott all chickens until we sort out this
abomination that the liberal media whitewashes with seemingly harmless
phrases like "the other side." That chicken should not be crossing the
road. It's as plain and as simple as that.

GRANDPA: In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the
road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was
good enough.

BARBARA WALTERS: In a few moments, we will be listening for
the first time, that same chicken tell us, in its own words, the
heart-warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting,
and went on to accomplish its life-long dream of crossing the road.

JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the chickens .... It's easy, if you
try ..... Crossing roads, together .... Hoping not to die .....
Imagine all, the chickens .... Crossing, roads, in peace ....

ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken2000, Millennium
Edition, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your
important documents, and balance your check book. Internet Explorer
is a integral part of eChicken. This new platform is much more stable
and will never cras ... #@&&^(!

ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did
the road move beneath the chicken?

BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with that chicken. What
is your definition of chicken?

AL GORE: I invented the chicken!

COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?

DICK CHENEY: Where's my gun?

Don't forget there is a Jam going ::)

Ruination Corona's up are a good cigar but 10/$35 is not a good price
Yeah, I have that $25 gift card burning a hole in my pocket so looked twice at that deal.  But agreed, does not quite pass the cheapy cheapo sniff test.
I have a $35 Visa gift card as well that is begging to be used for cigars. Or maybe cigars and books, it hasn't been too clear with me just yet.
Mine is specific to the sis, part of a previous deal, so I'm stuck using it for cigars.  Darn the luck.

I had a $20 from the sis and it took me almost a year to find a deal worth using it on and now I have another one.  Good news is they usually have a gift card offer around Christmas and u can use one and get another one.

Good morning boys! Mr. Mom here today, waiting to get kid #2 on the bus then go to Starbucks and figure out how early I can set up outside and burn one...or three
Morning Fishy.  Got 'em lined up?  Cuarenta, EPC SO, Tat Black?
Lighters filled?
Good question, I have the Xikar Turrim, that thing lasts forever
That one working out pretty well for you then?
I like it a lot, had to make an adjustment on the flame height wheel on the bottom of the lighter. The factory stop was too low so I had to unscrew the base piece and reset it. Odd to me for Xikar but it works like a champ now

Good win late for them but no, still pissed about the Utley play. Harvey needs to shut them down tonight
They've suspended Utley for games 3 & 4.
He'll appeal and probably get one game

I think they make suspensions banking on the appeal shortening it. Like the Tom Brady thing, I suspect that Goddell expected it to be dropped to 2 games. Doesn't seem like the suspensions are ever odd numbers, you know?

I've always been an Aggie fan myself, I don't think any family members ever went to UT for a fear of being disowned.  When Texas starts denouncing its history, you know there is a problem.

Morning Tony
Kids off from school today?  Are you working from home?
Kids are at school, wife is away for work until Thursday, I'm working from home today and Wednesday
So kids bedtimes are 4:30-4:45 for the next couple of days?  ;)
Yep - Dad made dinner, kids are so sleepy, why did it taste funny?
Thought you only did that on date night.
Oh, you mean the technique I like to call "The Nate"?
Nailed it.

Shhhhhhhh, you will offend Golf.

Morning Mayor, hope you are celebrating Columbus Day too.
Don't get me wrong, if I was given the day off work, I would certainly take it. Just don't the continued love for Columbus. One of the great mysteries of life, I guess. but don't tell Tony I said that, he may send the squad after me.
Well, you can celebrate indigenous peoples day instead.  Raz has some of that going on.

Without Columbus, no 'Murica, but more importantly, no cigars!
All Columbus did was get the government contract by sucking up to the First Lady. If he hadn't, a better candidate would have. Columbus' proposal was poorly researched and executed.

I'm overwhelmed with work today so I may try to pull an LTG or sfish and hazzuh early.  Then I'll try to get my shit together again tomorrow, but no promises.
Sounds like you're shooting for the "participant" trophy.
I'm still frikkin' here.  Sheesh.
Guess you can be a Champ now
How so?
From earlier today:  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v-gwjJ_NXKU (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v-gwjJ_NXKU)
Be of irony, the warden mentioned the ad about the participant trophy.  2-4-6-8, let's all participate!

97 degrees and the wind makes it feel like sitting in a convection oven.  Bean says better tomorrow, Jeez yeah only 94. ::)

V Lit with a Sculpin, too damn hot for an Octoberfest today.
Hot enough that Cheapo Bean can refry his beans on the sidewalk?

Well you got past the participant trophy so you should qualify for a Champ trophy I thought but now I am thinking maybe a Chump would be more appropriate

Gary Patterson is the big talk over in Gamecock country.  At most they will likely keep Spurrier through the end of the season.

Government. But it's behaving as if it's a Fortune 100 corporation. And despite the fact that I'm (forced by law to be) a union member, the union can't help me and I get to work my ass off all this week and through the coming weekend. I have to cancel gigs this weekend.

It:s not IT. It's government. The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees. AFSCME.  They convinced the legislature to pass a law that forced all state employees to choose - you can join the union, or you can refuse to join and pay the union dues anyway.
