Morning, muchachos.  Well, still evening here.  But, whatever.
Hola, Raz.  Just about to call it a night.  Smoked a MUWAT 6x60 and a LAdC Noblesse toro this evening.  I'd say I had a decent day.

I should qualify that... It was great after 6 : pm.  The twelve hours preceding that really sucked.  But how would I recognize the good if I didn't also experience the shitty?  Good night, Bret.

I had a plate of food in my hand, a cigar hanging out of my mouth and trying to take the photo...  Her face wasn't great but wow what a body.  She actually works at the Cigar Inn (which is now under JR ownership, the reason for the event).

@NJDave.  I drove over to the Cigar Palace in Doylestown yesterday evening, got there just as they were about to close (website hours were incorrect).  Real nice lady proprietor, let me browse around. Picked out three sticks.  She suggested a couple places within a couple blocks where I could smoke them, but neither place looked very cigar friendly to me. Pretty packed with families having dinner, so I skipped a smoke.  Will have to get over there earlier to enjoy a cigar at the shops little outdoor patio area.

Morning, fellow commie!
Premiums goin up today?  Mornin Dave!
Today ends in Y, doesn't it!
Cecil doesn't have a heartbeat does he? ;)
Beany thinks so.
GMornin Dave - had an LC15 last night.  Liked it, but I think the 14 is where I want to be.  I see a box of La Imperiosas in my future
I haven't smoked the LC15 yet but the LC14 was one of my favorite cigars I smoked all last year

+1 AtlanticDave shared the VIP price for a CG box the other day...

just great. they are shutting the pumping station down and water because of the flooding. portable shitters all over the park, including right in my front yard.
there is no overflow on the retention pond and instead of pumping the water to the lowlands (50' away), this is there fix.

Good morning LSU, Tex, LTG, NJDave, Scott and Mark.
Morning Mr. Mayor.  Saw your photo of the NY cigar event.  That hot girl photobombed you, though.  The nerve!
I had a plate of food in my hand, a cigar hanging out of my mouth and trying to take the photo...  Her face wasn't great but wow what a body.  She actually works at the Cigar Inn (which is now under JR ownership, the reason for the event).
Wow! Johnnie bought Cigar Inn? Great news!
so they sent her out to keep tabs on you?

Then again the statement: "seasoned to perfection, full of big, bold, spicy flavors" seems a little off.  It's been my experience and supported by most of what I've read that "boldness" and spiciness" mellow out considerably with age.

Morning SS, low bid may not be the best bid! ;)
FINALLY DONE!!!  I agree, I like the way I've heard they do it in some European countries, take the highest and lowest bids and chuck them using the medium bid.  This particular meeting was about what we were going to bid and had already bid last week.
That is a general rule of thumb in construction, when not using certain public money where low bid is the winner
And you always get what you pay for.

@Steve    Did you get the price quote you asked me for yesterday?

Yes, thanks. I may have to join VIP with that purchase. May not be for a couple weeks though.
You buy a box of them and a box of Enclaves and the VIP is already more than paid for.

One of the early astronauts (Alan Sheppard I think) was asked, after his ground (or space) breaking flight, "when they were counting down 10,9, 8... what was going through your head (I'm paraphrasing because I'm too lazy to look it up) and he replied, While I'm looking at all the sophisticated dials and equipment, i realized it was all supplied by the lowest possible bidder.
Probably not a good feeling while sitting on top of a roman candle about to be blasted into space...

actual quote.  figured I shouldn't be lazy

According to Gene Kranz in his book, Failure Is Not an Option, "When reporters asked Shepard what he thought about as he sat atop the Redstone rocket, waiting for liftoff, he had replied, 'The fact that every part of this ship was built by the lowest bidder.'"[11]

Recovery of Alan Shepard, 1961
After a dramatic Atlantic Ocean recovery, Commander Shepard observed, "... didn't really feel the flight was a success until the recovery had been successfully completed. It's not the fall that hurts; it's the sudden stop."[12]

There is a line from Steve Buscemi in Armageddon that paraphrases that story as well.

"You know we're sitting on four million pounds of fuel, one nuclear weapon and a thing that has 270,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder. Makes you feel good, doesn't it?"

Funny stuff.

I'd say 95% of the time if I get a phone call, it's a salesman, or some one with a problem.  This call was from my ex-sister-in-law that I have remained friends with.  Her apartment is infested with roaches, and she wants me to help her move to a new apartment tomorrow, and also figure out how to take her furniture without any roaches.  How the hell do they expect me to know how to do that...?  And tomorrow is my wife's only day off, so we get to spend it at the Roach Motel... gEEEz...!!!!

Round trip travel to Somerville International Airport, Limo service and transport Gurkhas by Flip, AtlanticDave to provide smokes, Fishy providing a couple of growlers of the current Fru-Fru beer, pizza and donuts from Tony, we're good to go.
Don't forget the woodies!  ;)
What about the Melamine Jars? :o
Ohh yeah, did you want me to send one your way?  ;D
NO!
You should see the collection now, I added another jar since I got Pete's signature ;)
Ok, that time I actually laughed out loud.
Some times a LOL just isn't enough to express what is going on at the other end of the banter..!

Why would anyone leave 1 cigar to a guy that's bidding on 5 (singles)...?  I would think he would have taken the extra cigar for only $2.25 (actually I think he was bidding $2.50) to keep the other person from incurring the cost.  Then on top of it, I seen his name plastered all over the auction site, so I know he knew what he was doing. uggghhhh..!

Hi BD!
How ya doing Sam...  Man, I try to get onto the banter, and someone calls me on the phone and wants to talk for an hour.. ugh, I hate phones..!
Not bad Bd, thanks.  You?    I know, I rarely ever answer the thing at home.
If you're moving it on a truck, try to shake out as many as possible during loading then set a bomb (of the roach variety) in the truck.

And if that store is on the MO side of the line they have one of the lower state cigar taxes in the country so it could be 50-75% more at B&M's in other states.

I like it, but I don't like that it's about $30 a fifth.  I could be drinking (not rye) Fighting Cock @ $17.95 or Buffalo Trace for around $20.  I bought Buffalo Trace for $20 about 6 months ago, but I think it might have gone up, maybe to $25..?  Anyway, I'd drink it at 20..!

Yep. Your prices are higher there. That runs @ $22 here. Another good bang for the buck is Evan Williams (white label) 100proof.

There are various kinds, but the one most commonly referred to are Angostura Bitters.

By itself, it has a meaty, salty, woody flavor. In a drink it lends body and complexity more than flavor. A couple drops in a martini really kicks it up a notch or two.

I am doing some thinking now trying to figure out why Dean cleans the car Before going to the beach where it will be subject to salt spray and sand for a week. ??? ??? ???
Dean has a thing about his Jeep, Mr. Maintenance.
It seems like he's always working, or doing work for others.  I wish I had a neighbor like that..!  :)
Indeed.

Bye to Fish, Golf, and anyone else I most likely missed due to my mind being screwed up over a damn cigar.. errrr...!!!  I think I need whiskey..
NOW we're talkin'!!!!
I have a bottle of Bullet Rye I can't stop thinking about...  My wife is sleeping, and off tonight.  Mmmm, I wonder if I could wake her up and get her drunk..?

I like the Bullet bourbon... not much of a rye fan though.

I'm been drinking Evan Williams cheaper black label for around 25 years or whenever it was with Jack Daniels jumped up in price.  I'll keep my eye out for the white label.  Mmmm, a manhattan would sound good about now: Evan Williams, Sweet Vermouth, a few teaspoons of cherry juice out of the jar, and a couple of cherries....!!!  I've never used Bitters. Does anyone know what bitters taste like...?
Different companies' bitters taste different.  Basically an herbal concoction with alcohol used to extract the essences.  Some taste bitter, but others have more citrus base and other flavorings.  If you've ever had chartreuse or other herbal liquors, its something like that.  Not particularly pleasant to me but fine in a Manhattan or food prep.

Seems that way guess I am used to having Raz around to do all the figuring we need. ::)
I'm a musician, I can count to seven at the most.
don't forget 8th, 16th & 32nd notes....gotta count the beats
I'm a rock 'n roll guitarist. All 8th, 16th and 32nd notes get counted as triplets, so I only have to count to three for those.
LOL, nice!  Percussion for a wind ensemble. Anything over 16th is a roll on a snare.  the music has to have some of the weirdest beats I've ever seen.    my particular favorites are 5/4 and 12/8.
I can play Pink Floyd and Rush, so I'm okay at 5/4, 7/4, and 7/8. Beyond that, everything gets fuzzy.
But can you play 33 1/3 so you can make one of those big vinyl albums like they did in the good 'ol days...?
Nah, I wasn't good enough to make an album, so I can only play at 45.
Damn, I was 45 once....
I remember 45 too.  I drank Colt 45 Malt liquor all that year just because I was 45.  When I turned 46 I switched back to regular beer of the time.

My first beer was a dark draught.  We had a Shakey's Pizza a few blocks from my house.  The dark draught beer they served, reminded me of root beer, which I love, so I ordered one.  It wasn't the greatest at first, but ever time we went there for pizza, that beer looked so good with the pizza, that I had to order another one.  Later I couldn't eat one of their pizzas without a dark beer.  I really loved those pizzas too.  Now I think there are only a few Shakey's left around the country. They played old black and white 20's silent comedy movies, and had a piano and banjo player.  It was great...!

New from AJF.  A nice medium with a lot of complexity.  Creamy base, tending to chocolate milk, white pepper more at the start and later on retro.  Kitchen spices including a fairly distinct cinnamon.  May be serious competition for my affections with CLE.
