Highlight in History

On July 25, 1965, Bob Dylan drew boos from some spectators at the Newport Folk Festival as he performed with a rock band. (The cause of the negative reaction is in dispute, with some citing Dylan's use of an electric guitar, others blaming poor audio quality and still others complaining about the shortness of Dylan's set.)

Union House
-------------------------

A dedicated shop steward was at a convention in Las Vegas and decided to check
out the local brothels. When he got to the first one, he asked the Madame, "Is
this a union house?"

"No, I'm sorry, it isn't," said the Madame.

"Well, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?" he asked.

"The house gets $80 and the girl gets $20."

Mightily offended at such unfair dealings, the man stomped off down the street
in search of a more equitable shop.

At the second one, he asked the Madame, "Is this a union house?"

"No, I'm sorry, it isn't," said the Madame.

"If I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?" he asked again.

"The house gets $80 and the girl gets $20."

Again offended, the man stomped off down the street in search of a more
equitable shop.

His search continued until he finally reached a brothel where the Madame said,
"Why yes, this is a union house."

"And if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?" he questioned.

"The girls get $80 and the house gets $20."

"That's more like it!" the man said. He looked around the room and pointed to a
stunningly attractive redhead. "I'd like her for the night."

"I'm sure you would, sir", said the Madame while gesturing to a grotesque woman
in her seventies in the corner, "but Ethel here has seniority."

We shall see, but I don't have high hopes.  One is infused (pins colada I think) and the other a standard cigar which I anticipate being generic.

The two things Dean didn't mention are free medical (although some are now required to pay some), and retirement.
Paying retiree's basically the same as when they were working AND continuing their medical coverage  is about as good as you could hope for....and it's what's bankrupting states...

The two things Dean didn't mention are free medical (although some are now required to pay some), and retirement.
Paying retiree's basically the same as when they were working AND continuing their medical coverage  is about as good as you could hope for....and it's what's bankrupting states...
Yep, sounds like a lot of cities too and almost every fire & police agency.   South Carolina has a deal way better than that though.  They can retire one day then get rehired the next day at the same job for their same pay and collect retirement pay and current job pay both.  I got several friends doing it now.

Double dipping.  You'd almost have to be a fool not to take advantage of the system.  Not good for society as a whole though.

Would that be a win-win?  If you can be brought back as a contractor without the benefits that you keep as a retiree, already trained but still cheaper than what a fully loaded (with benefits)new hire would be?....food for thought.....

In SC they are not brought back as contractors, they are employees with full benefits and can retire again.

It hangs solely on the necks of the corrupt legislature.  It was supposed to be for school teachers to try and retain the older ones that knew WTF they were doing but the corrupt legislature slipped in language so it applied to every state employee.

I thought the joke was hilarious but once you broke it down like that I see nothing wrong with it.  Giving my employer more than half of my days seems enough.
Joke was fine but why in the same post as the totally irrelevant working days of a New York State employee.  Dean worked for the state for 30 years and living off them now so what is his issue? ::)
I assume he is not pro-union even though it seemed to work out for him.  Dunno.
I dunno either!  What you up to today?  Smoking?
No smoking yet.  A lot of family running around.  My brother and his wife are coming over tomorrow for dinner so now we have some cleaning up to do.  Gorgeous day here though.

Warden got on my nerves first thing this morning so I have been enjoying life smoking and sipping all day since finishing my pool work about 10 this morning.  Going to cook a lovely filet mignon for dinner.

That's an outstanding plan.  Don't cook it too long.

That will not happen, all I do is sear it.

I don't have a man cave but I do have a covered man patio with all the bells and whistles.

Unless the warden is out there with you, then you just have a terrace.  :)  Thought you smoked indoors?

Good evening Sir Antnee, Baron of Bertolli!  We're firing up EE's next door, if anyone here cares to join us.  All are welcome, as usual.

Enjoy!  I keep threatening to finish the detached garage but there never seems to be time.  Someday.
