Morning Hurricanes Jammers, radar image at 5:00a.m. eye is within a few miles of the shore near Wrightsville Beach, NC.  At this point my condo is just outside of the rain bands to the south.

Good to be outside of the rain bands AND to the less destructive south side of the storm, although it's apparently going to head in that direction later.

Speaking of my nephew's birthday, my sister and BIL are part of the foster care system in PA, and she works with an organization called One Simple Wish, which works to grant wishes big and small for foster kids. Last weekend, they had foster kids from another family over, and since he was such a big help, she decided to start a fundraiser in honor of his birthday, with the hopes of raising $250 for them. As of this morning, it's over $3200.  :o

Today is Friday, Sept. 14, the 257th day of 2018. There are 108 days left in the year.
Today's Highlight in History:

On Sept. 14, 1901, President William McKinley died in Buffalo, New York, of gunshot wounds inflicted by an assassin; Vice President Theodore Roosevelt succeeded him.

On this date:
In 1814, Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the poem "Defence of Fort McHenry" (later "The Star-Spangled Banner") after witnessing the American flag flying over the Maryland fort following a night of British naval bombardment during the War of 1812.
In 1861, the first naval engagement of the Civil War took place as the USS Colorado attacked and sank the Confederate private schooner Judah off Pensacola, Florida.
In 1927, modern dance pioneer Isadora Duncan died in Nice (nees), France, when her scarf became entangled in a wheel of the sports car she was riding in.
In 1954, the Soviet Union detonated a 40-kiloton atomic test weapon.
In 1972, the family drama series "The Waltons" premiered on CBS.
In 1975, Pope Paul VI declared Mother Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton the first U.S.-born saint.

In 1982, Princess Grace of Monaco, formerly actress Grace Kelly, died at age 52 of injuries from a car crash the day before; Lebanon's president-elect, Bashir Gemayel (bah-SHEER' jeh-MAY'-el), was killed by a bomb.
In 1985, Shiite (SHEE'-eyet) Muslim kidnappers in Lebanon released the Rev. Benjamin Weir (weer) after holding him captive for 16 months.
In 1991, the government of South Africa, the African National Congress and the Inkatha (in-KAH'-tah) Freedom Party signed a national peace pact.

In 1994, on the 34th day of a strike by players, Acting Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced the 1994 season was over.
In 2001, Americans packed churches and clogged public squares on a day of remembrance for the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. President George W. Bush prayed with his Cabinet and attended services at Washington National Cathedral, then flew to New York, where he waded into the ruins of the World Trade Center and addressed rescue workers in a flag-waving, bullhorn-wielding show of resolve.

In 2012, fury over an anti-Muslim film ridiculing the Prophet Muhammad spread across the Muslim world, with deadly clashes near Western embassies in Tunisia and Sudan, an American fast-food restaurant set ablaze in Lebanon, and international peacekeepers attacked in the Sinai.

Ten years ago: Losing its devastating punch as a major hurricane, Ike nevertheless drubbed the Midwest with powerful winds and floodwaters. Carlos Zambrano pitched the first no-hitter for the Chicago Cubs in 36 years, striking out 10 in a 5-0 win over Houston in a game relocated to Milwaukee because of Hurricane Ike.

Five years ago: A diplomatic breakthrough on securing and destroying Syria's chemical weapons stockpile, negotiated by the U.S. and Russia, averted the threat of U.S. military action.

One year ago: CIA Director Mike Pompeo canceled a planned appearance at Harvard University over the school's decision to name Chelsea Manning a visiting fellow. Former CIA deputy director Mike Morell resigned from his post at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, saying he couldn't be part of an organization that "honors a convicted felon and leaker of classified information." More than 80 people were killed in an attack in southern Iraq targeting a restaurant frequented by Shiite Muslim pilgrims; the Islamic State group claimed responsibility.

Unfortunately it seems damned and determined to go straight towards me, hopefully it will lose some strength on the way.  I don’t have flood risk but I do have wind risk.

My guess is you'll loose power and have difficulty with some closed roads, lack of gas, etc, but otherwise good.  I've watched enough weather on TV to be an expert, so there you have it.

A young father from Texas who caught a 47 year old man sexually assaulting his 5 year old daughter will not be charged for beating the molester to death. The father was alerted by another child and ran to a remote shack hearing screams, and found the man and his daughter with their underwear off. He went into a rage beating the man with his bare hands, then called 911 for help.

Under Texas law, deadly force is authorized and justified in order to stop an aggravated sexual assault or sexual assault.

Sounds like justice to me!
I think he's a hero!

pretty fucking stupid and selfish. they can plead for help when it's too late, putting others at risk, but God forbid they humble themselves and ask for help before the storm.

they are doing over 100 recues in New Bern, NC. I was under the impression they issued a mandatory evacuation and if you needed help you were on your own? WTF.
Hard to imagine someone ignoring advice and doing stupid schitt then expecting another person to come to their rescue when it goes south.   ;)
pretty fucking stupid and selfish. they can plead for help when it's too late, putting others at risk, but God forbid they humble themselves and ask for help before the storm.
Better yet, they complain that the help was not quick enough or that accommodations were not up to standard.

Kind of reminds me of this joke:

A terrible storm came into a town and local officials sent out an emergency warning that the riverbanks would soon overflow and flood the nearby homes. They ordered everyone in the town to evacuate immediately.

A faithful Christian man heard the warning and decided to stay, saying to himself, “I will trust God and if I am in danger, then God will send a divine miracle to save me.”

The neighbors came by his house and said to him, “We’re leaving and there is room for you in our car, please come with us!” But the man declined. “I have faith that God will save me.”

As the man stood on his porch watching the water rise up the steps, a man in a canoe paddled by and called to him, “Hurry and come into my canoe, the waters are rising quickly!” But the man again said, “No thanks, God will save me.”

The floodwaters rose higher pouring water into his living room and the man had to retreat to the second floor. A police motorboat came by and saw him at the window. “We will come up and rescue you!” they shouted. But the man refused, waving them off saying, “Use your time to save someone else! I have faith that God will save me!”

The flood waters rose higher and higher and the man had to climb up to his rooftop.

A helicopter spotted him and dropped a rope ladder. A rescue officer came down the ladder and pleaded with the man, "Grab my hand and I will pull you up!" But the man STILL refused, folding his arms tightly to his body. “No thank you! God will save me!”

Shortly after, the house broke up and the floodwaters swept the man away and he drowned.

When in Heaven, the man stood before God and asked, “I put all of my faith in You. Why didn’t You come and save me?”

And God said, “Son, I sent you a warning. I sent you a car. I sent you a canoe. I sent you a motorboat. I sent you a helicopter. What more were you looking for?”

That's disgusting. Wish he could have beat him to death twice.

Speaking of Flip...

A camel meets an elephant. The elephant asks jokingly: “Why do you have two
breasts on your back?” The camel replies: “With a face like yours, I’d just
 shut up.”

Father: “Son, you were adopted.”
Son: “What?! I knew it! I want
 to meet my biological parents!”
Father: “We are your biological
parents. Now pack up, the new ones will pick you up in 20 minutes.”

A guy tells his friend, “Man I think my wife may be dead…”
Friend: “What?! Why would you think that?”
Guy: “Well in bed
she’s the same as ever but the kitchen got quite messy…”

And because we made it to page 7, a few more...

My neighbor came at me really aggressively, asking if I knew anything about
her underwear disappearing from her clothes line.
I can tell you I
 nearly shit her pants.

I’ve read so many horrible things about drinking and smoking recently that I
made a new, firm New Year’s resolution: NO MORE READING!

I heard the Secret Service had to change their commands.

They can’t
say “Get down!” anymore when the President is under attack.
Now it’s
“Donald! Duck!”

Doctor, how can I live longer than 100 years?

Do you smoke?
 No.
Do you eat too much?
 No.
Do you go to bed late?
 No.
Do you have affairs with promiscuous women?
 No.
Then why would
you want to live more than 100 years?
