Morning, all.

Morning, muchachos. No sleep for me yet. Servers are down at work, and I've been busily waking people up at 3am. Sucks to be me.
-
Drank too much really good scotch tonight with MacGuyver, whose wife was diagnosed today with aggressive breast cancer. So I'm loaded, and trying to fix servers. I think I'll have another drink.

Been there, done that. Don't miss it at all.
Good morning Dave and Bret.

Can't say that I've done that. Sorry to hear that about your friend and his Mrs. It's a tough battle but it can be won.

Probably can't be won in this case, but hey...miracles happen. Who knows?
But he's my best friend, and I like the hell out of her too. So this is killing me. She's a tough bird. If anyone can beat it, she can.
Tonight, Dan and I got drunk. Seemed like the thing to do. Wasn't expecting to have to be on the job.
Life's a bitch. God is good. Whiskey helps.
Everybody love on your people today. Life is short.

Today is Friday, March 23, the 82nd day of 2018. There are 283 days left in the year.
Today's Highlight in History:
On March 23, 1775, Patrick Henry delivered an address to the Virginia Provincial Convention in which he is said to have declared, "Give me liberty, or give me death!"
On this date:
In 1792, Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 94 in G Major (known as the "Surprise" symphony because of an unexpected crashing chord in the second movement) had its first public performance in London.
In 1806, explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, having reached the Pacific coast, began their journey back east.
In 1914, the first installment of "The Perils of Pauline," the silent film serial starring Pearl White, premiered in the greater New York City area.
In 1933, the German Reichstag adopted the Enabling Act, which effectively granted Adolf Hitler dictatorial powers.
In 1942, the first Japanese-Americans evacuated by the U.S. Army during World War II arrived at the internment camp in Manzanar, California.
In 1956, Pakistan became an Islamic republic.
In 1965, America's first two-person space mission took place as Gemini 3 blasted off with astronauts Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom and John W. Young aboard for a nearly 5-hour flight.
In 1968, UCLA defeated North Carolina, 78-55, to win college basketball's NCAA championship.
In 1973, before sentencing a group of Watergate break-in defendants, Chief U.S. District Judge John J. Sirica read aloud a letter he'd received from James W. McCord Jr. which said there was "political pressure" to "plead guilty and remain silent."
In 1983, President Ronald Reagan first proposed developing technology to intercept incoming enemy missiles - an idea that came to be known as the Strategic Defense Initiative. Dr. Barney Clark, recipient of a Jarvik permanent artificial heart, died at the University of Utah Medical Center after 112 days with the device.
In 1998, "Titanic" tied an Academy Awards record by winning 11 Oscars, including best picture, director (James Cameron) and song ("My Heart Will Go On").
In 2003, during the Iraq War, a U.S. Army maintenance convoy was ambushed in Nasiriyah (nah-sih-REE'-uh); 11 soldiers were killed, including Pfc. Lori Ann Piestewa (py-ES'-tuh-wah); six were captured, including Pfc. Jessica Lynch, who was rescued on April 1, 2003.

Ten years ago: A roadside bomb killed four U.S. soldiers in Baghdad, pushing the overall American death toll in the five-year war to at least 4,000. Vice President Dick Cheney visited the West Bank, where Palestinian leaders asked him to pressure Israel to halt settlement construction and voiced other complaints. The Seattle-based fishing trawler Alaska Ranger sank in the Bering Sea, killing five crew members; 42 others survived. Al Copeland, founder of the Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken chain, died near Munich, Germany, at age 64.
Five years ago: President Barack Obama concluded a four-day visit to the Middle East as he marveled at the beauty of one of the region's most stunning sites, the fabled ancient city of Petra in Jordan. Pope Francis traveled from the Vatican to Castel Gandolfo south of Rome to have lunch with his predecessor, Benedict XVI. Boris Berezovsky, 67, a self-exiled and outspoken Russian tycoon who'd had a bitter falling out with Russian President Vladimir Putin, was found dead at his home in Ascot, England.
One year ago: Abandoning negotiations, President Donald Trump demanded a make-or-break vote on health care legislation in the House, threatening to leave "Obamacare" in place and move on to other issues if the next day's vote failed. (Trump and GOP leaders ended up pulling their bill when it became clear it would fail badly.) The Republican-led Senate confirmed President Donald Trump's pick to be U.S. ambassador to Israel, 52-46, ignoring objections from Democrats that David Friedman lacked the temperament for such an important diplomatic post.

@Raz: About 7 years ago, one of my wife's best friends woke up next to the cold body of her 35 year old husband. He'd apparently had a heart attack during the night. He left her and two little kids behind.
On the anniversary of his death she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Prognosis was terrible. It hasn't been easy but she's still fighting this thing. A few years back, she even remarried. The new husband is a great guy and BotL.
Bottom line is it ain't over 'til it's over.

Been noticing a lot of repeats on these jams. I saw at least two other deals in between. PDR something or other and LHC Core.

Some thoughts from Mr. Rogers:
“There is no normal life that is free of pain. It's the very wrestling with our problems that can be the impetus for our growth.”
“Discovering the truth about ourselves is a lifetime’s work, but it’s worth the effort.”
“Love isn’t a state of perfect caring. It is an active noun like struggle. To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is, right here and now.”
“In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers.”
“I hope you're proud of yourself for the times you've said "yes," when all it meant was extra work for you and was seemingly helpful only to someone else.”
“How great it is when we come to know that times of disappointment can be followed by joy; that guilt over falling short of our ideals can be replaced by pride in doing all that we can; and that anger can be channeled into creative achievements... and into dreams that we can make come true.”
“Music is the one art we all have inside. We may not be able to play an instrument, but we can sing along or clap or tap our feet. Have you ever seen a baby bouncing up and down in the crib in time to some music? When you think of it, some of that baby's first messages from his or her parents may have been lullabies, or at least the music of their speaking voices. All of us have had the experience of hearing a tune from childhood and having that melody evoke a memory or a feeling. The music we hear early on tends to stay with us all our lives.”
“Most of us, I believe, admire strength. It's something we tend to respect in others, desire for ourselves, and wish for our children. Sometimes, though, I wonder if we confuse strength with other words—like 'aggression' and even 'violence'. Real strength is neither male nor female; but it is, quite simply, one of the finest characteristics that a human being can possess.”

That where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness.
That where there is discord, I may bring harmony.
That where there is error, I may bring truth.
That where there is doubt, I may bring faith.
That where there is despair, I may bring hope.
That where there are shadows, I may bring light.
That where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort, than to be comforted.
To understand, than to be understood.
To love, than to be loved.

It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.

New home for the tools? The lady isn't moving right? had to read that sentence a couple of times.

ESPN says that out of 17.3 million brackets, 17,676 had Loyola and Kansas State in the Elite 8. Who the hell are these wizards that predicted that, I'd like to know.

Yes indeed. Apparently, it's a million times less likely to be hit by it as it falls than it is to win the lottery. So not too much to worry about there.

You know what's funny about that phrase? People think of it as an enforced simplification of life that a recovering drunk must endure. Fact is that's ass-backward. The drunk has raced ahead of the crowd and run into the wall of truth that everyone is inevitably headed for. One day at a time or the days get away from you. One day at a time or you die of a coronary before you're due. One day at a time or your kids wonder who this stranger is that they call "dad." One day at a time or your wife wonders whatever happened to that guy she married. But we keep racing ahead, trying to see around the next bend, anticipate what the stock market is going to do, plotting how to make the next college tuition payment. Hell, I'm doing it as I write this. Thinking about 5th of May when I have to pay for the first round of deer tags for the hunting trip in November, and the next round happens in June, and then I have to budget for the trip. It's Friday and I'm feeling the pressure of Saturday and a week from Saturday. It's end of March and I'm feeling the pressure of November. It's three days into Spring and my head is in the Fall. No wonder my years are going by faster and faster.
Jesus said it, but we just keep ignoring it - "The day has sufficient troubles of its own."
There's your sermon for the day, everybody.

thank you Rev. for me, the old drunk, wasted all his 'days', always saying " tomorrow I'll ......". when I got sober I wanted everything to get better today. and then no matter how bad I thought my life was a lady told me "right now, right now, everything is okay". I believe that now. life goes on with or without me. rent will always be due, utilities will always need to be paid, my vehicle will need servicing, my kids will always be my kids, my loved ones will always be there, and when ALL else fails, I know I am never alone. God is always by my side. sometimes He walks along side me, sometimes He has to carry me, I prefer walking by His side.

Morning Daves, Tony, Dean, and RoughNightRaz.
After a hearty breakfast and a few hours of sleep, I'm back.
welcome back.
Just been a rough 24 hours all the way round. I've only been up for an hour and I'm ready for a nap.
one day at a time.

Indeed. And well said.

It's got some interesting features. My dad has one, but I haven't shot it. I like Taurus' steel guns, with the exception of their 1911, but their polymers do have a poor history. Personally, my primary carry rule is full-size or compact, sub-compacts are for backup. I have all the mouse guns I'll ever need - 2 Walther PPK's, a Makarov, and two S&W shields (9mm and .45acp). But this Taurus might be one I'd consider as gifts for the boys when they get their concealed carry licenses. I'll have to try my dad's out.

Yup, and the ability to repeatedly trigger if a round doesn't go bang.

Smoked a Herrera Esteli corona on the commute home today. I liked it a whole lot better than the Byron I smoked yesterday.
