Hi Dean. I remember you said your home wasn't too far away. Do you have an ETA for tomorrow afternoon? I should be home by 2:30 but if not, the back door will be unlocked ....come on in . after parking in the back yard, come in the back door. Your room is the front bedroom with a lovely view to the bay. The bathroom is yours as I use the other one . You are also welcome to use the outdoor shower, which I use. Safe traveling til we meet tomorrow. Sharon

Some on here might not know that Clemson University has something besides a football team. ;)

Clemson University is South Carolina's only top 25-ranked public research university in the path of totality for the 2017 solar eclipse, presenting a rare opportunity to share this extraordinary scientific event with the public at large. Clemson is making its scientists, experts and main college campus — which will experience a total solar eclipse at 2:37 p.m. Monday, August 21 — available to the public and the working press leading up to and on the day of the astronomical event. Connect with Clemson to see how you can share this once-in-a-lifetime experience with us!

Not much for cigar offerings this morning but one decent offer for Crowned Heads Four Kicks Coronas on the Mash@ 5 for $24.

Unfortunately Famous is having a CI Moment right now and the Mash will not open.

Edit:  Site back up and Nica Rustica 10/$43 also.

Today is Wednesday, Aug. 16, the 228th day of 2017. There are 137 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On August 16, 1977, Elvis Presley died at his Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee, at age 42.

On this date:

In 1777, American forces won the Battle of Bennington in what was considered a turning point of the Revolutionary War.

In 1812, Detroit fell to British and Indian forces in the War of 1812.

In 1858, a telegraphed message from Britain's Queen Victoria to President James Buchanan was transmitted over the recently laid trans-Atlantic cable.

In 1937, the American Federation of Radio Artists was chartered.

In 1948, baseball legend Babe Ruth died in New York at age 53.

In 1954, Sports Illustrated was first published by Time Inc.

In 1956, Adlai E. Stevenson was nominated for president at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

In 1967, Louis Armstrong recorded "What a Wonderful World" by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss for ABC Records.

In 1977, a judge in New York ruled that Renee Richards, a male-to-female transgender, had the right to compete in the U.S. Open without having to pass a sex chromosome test. (In the opening round of the Open, Richards lost to Virginia Wade in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4). The Debby Boone recording of "You Light Up My Life" by Joseph Brooks was released by Warner Bros./Curb Records.

In 1987, 156 people were killed when Northwest Airlines Flight 255 crashed while trying to take off from Detroit; the sole survivor was 4-year-old Cecelia Cichan (SHEE'-an).

In 1987, people worldwide began a two-day celebration of the "harmonic convergence," which heralded what believers called the start of a new, purer age of humankind.

In 1991, Pope John Paul II began the first-ever papal visit to Hungary.

Ten years ago: Jose Padilla (hoh-ZAY' puh-DEE'-uh), a U.S. citizen held for 3˝ years as an enemy combatant, was convicted in Miami of helping Islamic extremists and plotting overseas attacks. (Padilla, once accused of plotting with al-Qaida to detonate a radioactive "dirty bomb," was later sentenced to 17 years and four months in prison on the unrelated terror support charges, but that sentence was later increased to 21 years.) A cave-in killed three rescuers in the Crandall Canyon Mine in Utah; the search for six trapped miners was later abandoned. Master jazz percussionist Max Roach died in New York at age 83.

Five years ago: Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney declared he had paid at least 13 percent of his income in federal taxes every year for the previous decade; President Barack Obama's campaign shot back: "Prove it." A U.S. military helicopter crashed during a firefight with insurgents in southern Afghanistan, killing seven Americans and four Afghans. Ecuador decided to identify WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange as a refugee and give him asylum in its London embassy. Actor William Windom, 88, died in Woodacre, California.

One year ago: Democrat Kathleen Kane, Pennsylvania's first elected female attorney general, announced her resignation a day after being convicted of abusing the powers of the state's top law enforcement office to smear a rival and lying under oath to cover it up. (Kane, who was succeeded by Republican Bruce L. Castor Jr., was later sentenced to 10 to 23 months in jail, but remains free while she appeals.) Simone Biles captured her fourth gold of the Rio Games with an electric performance in the floor exercise. Political commentator and TV host John McLaughlin, 89, died in Washington, D.C.

For the NC coast, starting around 1:30 and should be at max about 2:45.  You should see somewhere between 90-95% coverage.

Very different smoke, like smoking 3 different cigars first half then 3rd quarter and 4th quarter.  1st half quite mild but good then 3rd quarter about medium and real nice but 4th quarter got rather harsh towards the end.  Good cigar and will have another in a few weeks but really don't see it as an $11 cigar, $7-8 maybe, construction and burn were excellent.

Still need a SC hotel room for the Eclipse weekend? Chances to secure a place are growing slim

http://www.wmbfnews.com/story/36141030/still-need-a-sc-hotel-room-for-the-eclipse-weekend-chances-grow-slim-in-securing-a-stay
We'll be in OBX for the event, need to find out what time it's happening
For the NC coast, starting around 1:30 and should be at max about 2:45.  You should see somewhere between 90-95% coverage.
Should be pretty cool, I vaguely remember this as a kid. I remember all the hype of not looking into it for fear of your eyes being burned from your head

Thought for Today: "In politics people give you what they think you deserve and deny you what they think you want." - Cyril Northcote Parkinson, British historian and author (1909-1993).
And this is what they universally think you deserve:
Got my cup poured.
I already had two cups
I've got a thermos-full. My cup overfloweth.

So, couple of points that seem to have been left out of this scenario (I know, surprising from a Dean story)...
...is he going down with one of the ladies?
...is this the person (one of the people) he met at the conference?
...is he just doing a getaway weekend for himself?  getaway from what?

Afternoon Short Stack!

I luv a nice afternoon nap, my father took a nap almost everyday of his post WW II adult life and lived a long healthy life to age 89 without benefit of any regular medications despite his lifelong enjoyment of whiskey and cigars.  He gave most of the credit to his regular naps.  I figure nothing to lose by it.

//Thank You Sir ,I guess you are like my bride glad to see it's close to Tiger KIck off,I have had Panthers season tickets since 95 !This is the first year her sisters wanted to come to a game,Came to see Watson and now want to come see Boulware,But He will have a tough time staying
Hoping the best for Boulware...guess (maybe hoping) it's about 50/50 whether he makes the cut.  Been rooting for the Panthers for the last few years, but may have to switch to the Texans.  Have tickets for the Clemson-GT game this year in late October.  Should be an interesting year in Tigertown.

Went with a Rocky Patel 15th anniversary. Not bad but nothing to write home about either.

Still hit the spot and glad I got an opportunity to smoke something.

Just lit an El Oso gifted by a peripatetic Dave on his last trip to TX. Starting out uniquely "woodsy". Promising.

I've only put about 20 miles on it so far. Drive back from the dealership on Monday and took the fam for a quick spin yesterday. Plan to put about 120 miles on it tomorrow; round trip to the NJ herf.

It takes a very vivid imagination to describe cigar flavors beyond cedar, leather, hay and Turd flavor .  All this cloves, cinnamon and allspice, etc............is bullshit I think.

For comparison purposes the El Oso is my son's favorite cigar and easily a top 3 or 4 for me.
Raspberry thumbprint cookies?
There ARE OTHER good profiles... ::)
I wish I was better at describing cigar flavors.  I will say the Warped line is distinctive, though I'll give the edge to the GotF branch-off.
It takes a very vivid imagination to describe cigar flavors beyond cedar, leather, hay and Turd flavor .  All this cloves, cinnamon and allspice, etc............is bullshit I think.
Bullshit doesn't agree with my palate.
Guess you don't like Bueso's then
Actually, I do. Not that I go out of my way to smoke them but I wouldn't turn one away either.
I can honestly say Buesos and OOO's are taste wise about the two worst cigars I have ever tried to smoke.  And I would turn them away.
To each his own. I enjoy both.

Promising.

I have Bueso's and smoke them occasionally.  One of those smoke-while-working sticks.  Not a OOO fan, though. But worst ever?  Heaven knows there are plenty of lower tier dog rockets out there.  TxDave just thinks the Bueso are commie smokes.   :D
