We bought our house 11 years ago this week and the Trash Service was $35/2 months then, it stayed that price for 5 years when it went up to $40 then when the current asshole mayor was elected he negotiated a better deal at $52 that included more restrictive limits on items to be picked up, now we just got a notice it is going up to $63.  That is what a small town corrupt Mayor and City Manager can do for you.

Population of the city is 14,000 and a prime source of revenue is traffic tickets from a 40 cop police force combined with a corrupt city judge.  Now they want to build a $23 million police station.

PTL I am soon gone!

Said Mayor lived across the street from me until about 6 months after he got elected mayor (an unpaid position) when he sold his house that was not for sale for an undisclosed "cash" amount (to an unknown buyer who put it up for rent) and bought a house a few blocks away (also an all cash sale with an undisclosed sale price) worth about double what the old one was actually worth.

Said Mayor also looks sexy (in his opinion anyway) driving around in his new corvette and his wife is all smiles in her new Lexus.  Coincidentally the city approved construction of a Lexus Dealership that citizens were very much against shortly before the wife got her new car.

I will not bore you any more but I could write several pages of his corrupt deals.

Today is Thursday, April 20, the 110th day of 2017. There are 255 days left in the year.

Today's Highlights in History:

On April 20, 1977, the U.S. Supreme Court, in Wooley v. Maynard, ruled 6-3 that car owners could refuse to display state mottoes on license plates, such as New Hampshire's "Live Free or Die." The Woody Allen comedy "Annie Hall," co-starring Diane Keaton in the title role, went into general release.

On this date:

In 1792, France declared war on Austria, marking the start of the French Revolutionary Wars.

In 1861, Col. Robert E. Lee resigned his commission in the United States Army. (Lee went on to command the Army of Northern Virginia, and eventually became general-in-chief of the Confederate forces.)

In 1889, Adolf Hitler was born in Braunau am Inn, Austria.

In 1912, Boston's Fenway Park hosted its first professional baseball game while Navin Field (Tiger Stadium) opened in Detroit. (The Red Sox defeated the New York Highlanders 7-6 in 11 innings; the Tigers beat the Cleveland Naps 6-5 in 11 innings.)

In 1914, the Ludlow Massacre took place when the Colorado National Guard opened fire on a tent colony of striking miners; about 20 (accounts vary) strikers, women and children died.

In 1916, the Chicago Cubs played their first game at Wrigley Field (then known as Weeghman Park); the Cubs defeated the Cincinnati Reds 7-6.

In 1947, Denmark's King Christian X, a popular symbol of resistance to German occupation during World War II, died at age 76, ending a reign of 35 years.

In 1968, Pierre Elliott Trudeau was sworn in as prime minister of Canada.

In 1972, Apollo 16's lunar module, carrying astronauts John W. Young and Charles M. Duke Jr., landed on the moon.

In 1987, the United States deported Karl Linnas to the Soviet Union, where he had been convicted in absentia of Nazi war crimes and faced a death sentence. (Linnas, who maintained his innocence, died of heart disease in Leningrad the following July.)

In 1999, the Columbine High School massacre took place in Colorado as two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, shot and killed 12 classmates and one teacher before taking their own lives.

In 2010, an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil platform, leased by BP, killed 11 workers and caused a blow-out that began spewing an estimated 200 million gallons of crude into the Gulf of Mexico. (The well was finally capped nearly three months later, on July 15.)

Ten years ago: The family of Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho (sung-wee joh), who shot and killed 32 people and himself, told The Associated Press they felt "hopeless, helpless and lost," and "never could have envisioned that he was capable of so much violence." A disgruntled worker, William Phillips, shot and killed NASA employee David Beverly at the Johnson Space Center in Houston before barricading himself with a hostage and then killing himself. (The second hostage escaped with minor injuries.)

Five years ago: A judge ruled that George Zimmerman could be released on $150,000 bail while he awaited trial on a charge of murdering 17-year-old Trayvon Martin during a Feb. 2012 confrontation in a Sanford, Florida gated community. (Zimmerman was acquitted.) In Pakistan, a Bhoja Air Boeing 737-200 crashed while on approach to the main airport in Islamabad, killing all 127 people on board.

One year ago: Five former New Orleans police officers pleaded guilty to lesser charges in the deadly shootings on the Danziger Bridge in the days following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. ESPN fired former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling as a baseball analyst after comments he'd made on Facebook that were critical of transgender rights. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew announced that Harriet Tubman, an African-American abolitionist born into slavery, would be the new face on the $20 bill, replacing President Andrew Jackson. Pro wrestler Chyna (Joan Marie Laurer) was found dead in her Redondo Beach, California, apartment; she was 46.

Thought for Today: "If anyone tells you something strange about the world, something you had never heard before, do not laugh but listen attentively; make him repeat it, make him explain it; no doubt there is something there worth taking hold of." - Georges Duhamel, French author (1884-1966).

No, he is 2 years older than me but worked for the old Bell Telephone as a bottom level "manager", one step above union employees, then AT&T fired (I mean early retired) him at age 53 - years before eligible for retirement.  Then he started a "computer business" out of his house and got caught by one of his very few clients copying licensed software off their system and bootlegging it to other clients and that business ended within less than a year of starting it.   Has not earned a legit penny other than his pension since then  which is about 9 years.

He ran for Mayor unopposed.

Heard of it, yea.  It was one of two or three lines that were rushed to meet the FDA deadline, so the name has been out there without general distribution of the cigars.
Think this one is on the pricy side, higher than the other Dunbarton releases.
Also out is Umbagog which seems to be the "Undercrown" of the Dunbarton line.
Should be showing up on line and in stores shortly.

Absolutely no high end retail in Lakeway, what little there is in that end of town is all in Bee Caves.  Newer parts of Lakeway (Rough Hollow & Serene Hills) are young-middle age Californians and a few out of state retirees.

They are all corrupt and taking kickbacks some just do it with a little more moderation than others and this jackass flaunts it while people sit around and look stupid.

Anybody hear of Muestra De Saka cigars?
Heard of it, yea.  It was one of two or three lines that were rushed to meet the FDA deadline, so the name has been out there without general distribution of the cigars.
Think this one is on the pricy side, higher than the other Dunbarton releases.
Also out is Umbagog which seems to be the "Undercrown" of the Dunbarton line.
Should be showing up on line and in stores shortly.
It is pricey, $95/box of (7) but they're giving a 5 pack of Sobramesas with them
Who's doing the offering?
Don't expect the prices to come down much with the rep of Dunbarton.  Just like Nick Melillo and his Foundation Cigar Co.

The worthless mayor just posted this on his bullshit blog:

Let me assure you, the City of Lakeway and it's leaders make certain that EVERYTHING we do is legal, moral, ethical and fair.  We make every effort to treat everyone as we would like to be treated.  I and the other elected officials along with city staff make certain we live up to that standard.

I have smoked a full box (10) of them.  OK, I would call them only average at the pre-closeout +/-$8-10/stick price but I would call them a pretty good smoke as a $3.50-4 smoke.

Bean has smoked some also so get his opinion too.

I have only smoked one Sobremesa out of the box I bought and it was about 10 days off the truck but I would definitely not rank it more than average and probably below average for the normal price range.   That said they may well improve over a few months.

Thanks TXDave, now you've got us all riled up.
Speak for yourself Mr. Mayor.
Hey, you're a Mayor, where are your perks?
Got to wake up the post whores somehow and riled up usually is the best way to do it.
Hey, could you guys keep the noise down, some of us trying to sleep.  Sheesh, how inconsiderate!
Doubling up on the pain meds again CB?
Seeing double at least.
How's the recovery going, Mikey?

Uncle Lees $34.95 free shipping at Holts
@Fishy, where was the Muestra de Saka/Sobremesa deal you mentioned earlier
www.cigarking.com
I have only smoked one Sobremesa out of the box I bought and it was about 10 days off the truck but I would definitely not rank it more than average and probably below average for the normal price range.   That said they may well improve over a few months.
Interesting, I thought they were better than that

Might be to others but that was just what I thought about them.  Nothing at all wrong with quality of construction just a meh smoke I thought.

Get them while you can!
Have you smoked them? I feel like NJDave's review has me hesitent, really don't need any more average cigars
I have smoked a full box (10) of them.  OK, I would call them only average at the pre-closeout +/-$8-10/stick price but I would call them a pretty good smoke as a $3.50-4 smoke.

Bean has smoked some also so get his opinion too.
Agreed.  Solid and consistent stick, middle third of the 101 line, IMO.

Tennessee student and teacher accused of kidnapping found safe

Former Tennessee teacher Tad Cummins, who is accused of kidnapping his 15-year-old student, has been arrested in northern California, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities said the student, Elizabeth Thomas, has been "safely recovered."

The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department confirmed to ABC News on Thursday that it had located Cummins' vehicle. Siskiyou County is nestled in the northernmost part of California in the Shasta Cascade region along the Oregon border.

Cummins, a 50-year-old married father and grandfather, was wanted on allegations of aggravated kidnapping and sexual contact with a minor.

That is it.  Specs does not have it in the coolers it is just on the shelf kind of hidden.
Looks like HEB has it, too, for slightly more $.  I am a pale ale fan and need to mix up my Thirsty Goat and Circle Envy rotation.
Mmmmm, beer. Haven't had one in a while. Although I did have a couple of martinis earlier this week.
Sounds like a short list item
Nope. More like a reward if I lose another 10 lbs.
Or Cigarfest, whichever comes first.
Every warm sunny day  is cigar fest at my house
Um....it's no longer your house.....  :P

Guardian of the Farm lit and a Sweetwater 420
Nice smoke.  Just received a fiver myself.
Good beer too and they have it at Specs now.

Sweetwater is fine, but I'm going with a Stone Enjoy before 4-20-17 with a Perdomo Champagne Noir.
It's still a 420

WTF is going on up there Bean????

‘Lactation Station’ added to Dell Diamond

The Express is one of only a handful of Minor League teams that offer a private space for breastfeeding mothers
WTF, indeed.  What women takes a breastfeeding baby to a professional baseball game.  Another solution looking for a problem.
