A.J. Fernandez Cigars has a new factory – and a new client. Espinosa Cigars has announced it is shifting the majority of production for its 601 branded cigars and a few newer releases. These cigars will now be produced at Fernandez’s new factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua, located about 50 miles north of Esteli.

December 12 is..............Poinsettia Day

Poinsettia Day, a day to celebrate the ever popular red flower used around the Christmas holiday season. When looking at a Poinsettia, all we can think of is “The Poinsettia is to Christmas like a pumpkin is to Halloween” But where is the Poinsettia from, and how did it become a Christmas staple? That’s why we’re here to find out what Poinsettia Day is all about!

History of Poinsettia Day

To find out where the Poinsettia flower originated from, we have to take a look in the past. In 1480 to his death, Aztec King Montezuma adorned his palace with Poinsettia or Cuetlaxochitl as it was known by the Aztecs, having his people cultivate the flower as a gift from the Gods. Poinsettia was served as a reminder of the sacrifice that the Aztec gods had made to create the universe and that the debt would be repaid in human sacrifices. The Aztecs used the Poinsettia’s sap to cure fevers and the leaves make a dye.

Then, in the 17th century after the Conquistadors invaded Mexico, the blood red wild flower became a part of Christian ceremony for the first time when it was used in the nativity procession, the Fiesta of Santa Pesebre. It’s around this time that many legends originated, attempting to explain why the plant, beginning to be called “La flor de Nochebuena,” or Holy Night had acquired its bright and beautiful red color.

After being discovered in 1828 by Joel Roberts Poinsett, the poinsettia became a popular specimen among botanists. One Botanist in particular by the name of Wilenow, in 1833 he named the Poinsettia “Euporbia pulcherrima.” But after only four years another botanist by the name of William Hickling Prescott renamed the flower to “Poinsettia pulcherrima” in honor of the man who brought the flower back to be studied, Joel Poinsett.

Tony did it?

Deflategate: Part 2, anyone? The infamous saga may have a sequel coming in the near future.

FOX Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer reported on Sunday that the New York Giants alerted the league office that the Pittsburgh Steelers were using deflated footballs in Week 13. After the Giants forced two turnovers of the Steelers, they tested two footballs on the sideline. Both of them came back under league standards for PSI, so the Giants sent those footballs to the league office.

Students at Oxford University have been encouraged to use gender neutral pronouns such as "ze" rather than "he" or "she" in an attempt not to offend transgender students, The Sunday Times reported.

The policy is outlined in a students' union leaflet, which also promotes the use of "ze" in university lectures and seminars.

LGBT rights campaigner Peter Tatchell told MailOnline that the "issue isn’t about being politically correct or censoring anyone. It's about acknowledging the fact of changing gender identities and respecting people's right to not define themselves as male or female."

Accreditation group gives 'warning' to Baylor University

Edit:  Accreditation Board does nothing to Baylor University

WACO, Texas (AP) — A leading university-accrediting body has issued a "warning" to Baylor University that the school's compliance with the body's standards will be closely monitored for the next year.

Baylor said in a statement it was notified by the Southern Association of College and Schools earlier this month that it will monitor the university's compliance with three standards: whether university student support services are adequate, institutional control of intercollegiate athletics is firm and a healthy, safe and secure student environment is being maintained.

The Board of Regents has told The Wall Street Journal that 17 women had reported domestic violence or sexual assaults involving 19 football players since 2011, including four gang rapes. They told The Dallas Morning News that about 125 cases of sexual assault or harassment campus-wide were under review.

Fuk'n Global Warming!   How strange - freezing weather in December ::)

POLAR VORTEX 2.0? FREEZING TEMPS, SNOW, & ICY RAIN

Ready, steady, bundle up! Jack Frost is about to dance across the Northeast with a freezing polar vortex making a dramatic return to the US. Chills, snow and rain are expected to make a landfall over the weekend, likely bringing old classics like slippery roads and flight delays.

Meteorologists predict that the freezing blast will cover Midwestern and northeastern states for at least five to seven days. So, getting out extra scarves and gloves might be a good idea.
