So long, Columbia House. You won't be missed.

Indeed, bastiges.  Predictable exit.  At least one poor sucker fought back, though:
Despite its popularity and seemingly irresistible deals, Columbia House eventually became reviled for the terms concealed in its fine print: Though members could nab a stack of albums for 1 cent, they had to buy additional albums over time -- at a high markup and with exorbitant shipping rates -- to fulfill the membership agreement......Though scores of members were burned by Columbia House's fine print in the '90s, one New Jersey man bilked the company out of 26,554 CDs over a five-year span by setting up 2,417 customer accounts at 16 different post office boxes.
I have mixed feelings on it though.  Sure they fucked me out of tons of money (and BMG too), but it still makes me feel nostalgic.

Hmmm, wonder if this business model would work for cigar sales?
If they can do it with a razor blade a week club, I'm sure it would work for cigars too.
I've done the razor blade thing.  They don't fuck you with the shipping & handling plus gouge you for the next 6 blades.
Are those blades for your head?

been having a trying time with the bikerlady. she knows NOTHING about sitting still or relaxing. the campground is nice, the beach is great. Padron #3 and coffee going. I gave her a bunch of money and sent her into town for clothing she forgot to pack, told her to have fun, save the needed supplies for last.

Call CB, he can help her out.  He's an expert.  He's been doing nothing for decades now.

Oh, that old "I forgot to bring clothes trick".....and you fell for it?
forecast was for 5 days of thunderstorms, she packed for rain. been 90's and sun. I packed for sun, rain means zip to me. I am hoping she comes back with a few sheer short sundresses.
Jayzus, a few? Did you give her that much money, or are you forgetting you sent her into a beachside  town?

Those damn kids and their MP3's and the iPizzle's put 'em under
really, were you still buying LP's, 8 tracks, and reel to reel tapes?
Both LP's and reel tapes sound superior to what we have now.

That was a standard of a generation....even though they ripped you off.
I think I still have some free CD coupons to turn in...
Too late. They haven't sold CD's for years.

In many ways, Columbia House was the precursor to the modern Internet. The deal worked slightly in the customer's favor, as long as the customer was diligent about sending in those monthly rejection cards - which, of course, many weren't, especially if they were kids.

But Columbia House wasn't about selling CD's, it was about building a huge, young customer base. CH made its money selling access to its customers to its business affiliates.

Sounds an awful lot like the present, doesn't it?
Is this still good?
sure as a bookmark.

prices are not bad here, surprisingly. I gave her $300 and asked her to get what she wanted. she is VERY frugal, and she knows about how my wife and deadbeats took advantage, she doesn't want to be in the same catagory, but I offerred the money, it wasn't just taken.

Vinyl is always good in my book. Like cigars, I probably have more than one person should own at one time.

Don't even make me ask about your Meryl Streep movie, Mr.  :D

way ahead of you. that was our first 'confrontation' about the clothes she packed. "not enough panties? don't wear any. tops too hot? just wear a sports bra or one of my tee shirts without a bra." DID NOT GO OVER WELL!

Never, ever make the mistake of telling a woman what to wear if you're hoping to have sex with her in the next 48-60 hours.  Just spend the $300.

if I was going to pay for sex, it would be a lot less than $300!!!!
this isn't about sex, it's about her happiness, and MINE.
