We have tickets to go see Wicked at the movie theater this morning. I loved the live show on Broadway. Lets see what all the hype is about.
Sounds like fun. I've never seen the musical myself, but I've never heard anyone say they didn't love it. I'd see the movie.
It was long. Essentially, three hours and they only covered the first act. There will be a part two.

I thought it was good, but I enjoyed the musical on Broadway more. Especially because it was so original at the time.
I thought the movie was a mess.  Chu apparently couldn't make up his mind whether he was making an homage, a teen-chick flick, a coming-of-age movie, or social commentary.  So it ends up trying to be all of the above, but does none of it well.  Ariana Grande flounces around chewing on the scenery and all Cynthia Erivo gets to do is stand around looking morose and put upon.  The only thing that mostly succeeds is the music.

It would be FAR too much to expect the movie to finally capture the raw eroticism and soul-corrosion of the novel. But they turned Elphaba into Cinderella, rather than the radicalized antihero of the novel, and that's tragic.  Okay, they wanted to make a movie you could take the kids to.  Fine.  Then at least make it as existentially frightening as the 1939 film.

Sorry.  I was just really disappointed.

I see your point. I didn't think it was as terrible.
