Wonder if Trumpf is going to have his Putin like parade like he wanted last inauguration.
I'm not sure if anything at all can shock me now.

Good morning, RedStateDave.
This is definitely not shock, like it was in 2016. This is more like dread. Partly for myself, but mostly for my wife and daughters. For my BIL who will likely lose his health insurance at some point, then soon after, his life. For my in-laws who are already on social security and for my parents, who might've been in the next 5-7 years. For all the members of the LGBTQ community I know who are now in crosshairs.

I don't have the mental bandwidth for any social media right now, so I'll be taking a break. May your drinks be cold and your cigars plentiful, BOTLs.

Today is Wednesday, Nov. 6, the 311th day of 2024.
There are 55 days left in the year.

Today in history:

On Nov. 6, 1860, former Illinois congressman Abraham Lincoln of the Republican Party was elected President of the United States as he defeated John Breckinridge, John Bell and Stephen Douglas.

Also on this date:

In 1861, James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada.

In 1888, Republican presidential candidate Benjamin Harrison won the electoral vote over incumbent Democrat Grover Cleveland, despite Cleveland gaining 90,000 more total votes; it would be the last time the popular vote winner would lose the election until 2000.

In 1947, “Meet the Press,” the longest-running television show in America, made its debut on NBC; the host was the show’s co-creator, Martha Rountree.

In 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower won reelection, defeating Democratic nominee Adlai Stevenson II for the second time.

In 1977, 39 people were killed when the Kelly Barnes Dam in Georgia burst, sending a wall of water through Toccoa Falls College.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan easily won reelection over former Vice President Walter Mondale, the Democratic challenger who won just one state, his native Minnesota.

In 2012, President Barack Obama won reelection, vanquishing Republican former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 332 electoral votes to Romney’s 206.

I fear you fret too much, and needlessly.  Obamacare isn't going anywhere, neither is Social Security, and the LGBTQ community is not in any crosshairs that have any ammunition to fire.  The Republican party platform has been profoundly softened since 2016, and, surprisingly enough, it was Trump that did it.  This is not a landslide, not a mandate.  It's 5 million some-odd votes.  3 million less than Biden won by in 2020.  No way is Trump getting a free hand, even with a red congress.  Trump may be term-limited, but the Republicans in Congress are not, and they'll want to get reelected. They're not going to let Trump do anything that threatens their reelection.

This election was turned by the middle class, and it was the economy and the border that turned it - not LGBTQ issues, not healthcare, not Social Security, not abortion.  The middle class wants fiscal discipline and lower costs of living, and they want discipline at the border.  That's the message of this election, and it came from a significant number of Black and Latino voices that voted Republican.  If the Republican Party tries to turn this into anything else, then those voices are going to abandon them and paint DC all kinds of blue in two years, and Trump will be a lame duck for the rest of his term.

For the moment, at least, the Republican Party is wearing a new suit.  We'll see if it grows that into a whole new wardrobe.  I'd like to see that happen, but I'm skeptical.  But it's not the time for anyone to panic.
