Bit of a chilly start this morning, only 56 out right now, but getting up into the high-70s later. Should be a pretty nice day, I'll probably get out there and mow later.
70° now and supposed to reach 82°. I believe this is perfection.

Speaking of golfing, how did you do yesterday?
It had been over 2 weeks since the last time I'd been out, so I started out a little bit off, but pulled it together some on the back 9. 9-over 80.
Not too shabby. You ever consider going pro?
CNS. I can barely hang on the courses I play now, I'd have no shot at a big boy track.
I think you're selling yourself short. There are thousands of golf pros out there that we've never heard of. They're still making a decent living though. I'm not saying they'll invite you to compete at the Masters.

Today is Tuesday, Aug. 13, the 226th day of 2024.
There are 140 days left in the year.

Today in history:

On Aug. 13, 1961, on what would become known as Barbed Wire Sunday, East Germany sealed the border between Berlin's eastern and western sectors before building a wall that would divide the city for the next 28 years.

On this date:

In 1521, Spanish conqueror Hernando Cortez captured Tenochtitlan (teh-natch-teet-LAHN'), present-day Mexico City, from the Aztecs.

In 1792, French revolutionaries arrested and imprisoned King Louis XVI; he would be executed by guillotine the following January.

In 1889, William Gray of Hartford, Connecticut, received a patent for the first coin-operated telephone.

In 1918, Opha May Johnson became the first woman to join the U.S. Marine Corps.

In 1952, Big Mama Thornton first recorded the song "Hound Dog," four years before Elvis Presley's famous version was released.

In 1969, New York City held a ticket-tape parade for Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins.

In 1995, Baseball Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle died at a Dallas hospital of rapidly spreading liver cancer at age 63.

In 2011, seven people were killed when a stage collapsed at the Indiana State Fair during a powerful storm just before a concert was to begin.

In 2020, in an interview on Fox Business Network, President Donald Trump acknowledged that he was starving the U.S. Postal Service of money in order to make it harder to process an expected surge of mail-in ballots.

Well, I'm guessing to do something like that, I'd have to move south so it would be a year-round occupation. But remember Josh, from the original banter? He was a pro in Texas, I believe, and he eventually got to a point where he didn't care for it. Makes it sound like the job isn't as great as it sounds. And I don't have the skill set to grind away even on the shitty tours. Even those guys could show up at a course like I play and shoot 8-under without breaking a sweat.

And when I say pro, like Josh was, I mean a person who works at the course and gives lessons and runs the pro shop and whatnot.

2016 — The U.S. women’s 4×100-meter medley relay team of Kathleen Baker, Lilly King, Dana Vollmer and Simone Manuel — winners at the Rio Games — delivers the nation’s 1,000th gold medal in Summer Olympics history. Michael Phelps closes the Rio Olympics with a gold medal in the butterfly leg of the 4×100 medley relay. Phelps finishes his career with 28 medals, having won five golds and a silver at these games.
