Oh yeah we should talk about Cigars - Jam Day Tomorrow!  Maybe?  Does it matter?   Probably the latter I guess.

I inquired about the Don Salvatore hygrometer earlier, but either no one else has one or no one gives a rat's ass.  No matter.

Haven't used one but any of the digital hygrometers we use are still incredibly cheap instruments given the accuracy of the information we want to get out of them. Outside of spending an incredible amount of money on a truly accurate hygrometer, I would guess it's as accurate as any other digital hygrometer on the market in this price range. So it's of course going to be better than any of the piece of garbage analog hygrometers out there but still, it's a low end digital version that looks better than anything put out by hygroset. I'm sure aesthetics are built in to that price. What is it's margin of error? How accurate is it? If it's within 2%, it's really no different than anything else sold from Famous or CI or wherever.

My personal favorites of all I've used are the ones by Xikar. I like the one button calibration which the Don Salvatore also appears to have. I hate that dumb dial on the hygrosets.

I also dislike the "ideal" markings of 70% rh since I feel "ideal" is whatever you prefer and also should be relative to ambient humidity where you live. I keep mine a bit drier since our humidity levels here are so low. My cigars don't burn as well the more humid they're kept.

So there's an opinion for ya but it's only that. I haven't actually used the Don Salvatore hygrometer.
I found that humidity levels vary around my house, humi, and weather.  67% seems to give me the best tasting and best burning cigars.

That's about what I aim for, too. A little drier is ok out here, too. And considering it's probably only accurate within a few percentage points anyway, it's a safe middle ground.

Thanks for the input jwacky!  I got the Don Salvatore to replace the crappy analog unit that took a dump when the little spring broke.  The info sheet that came with the DS said it was calibrated from the factory, but that turned out to be incorrect.  Been in the bag for a salt test for 26 hours now, and still at 70%, so it appears that it's 5% off.  The cabinet humi it's going on has a digital in the top section and one in the bottom, so I got this purely for esthetics.  But I still want it to work.  MSRP of $40.00 now, got this one on the Mash for $20.00 about a year ago.  Since I keep mine at 70%, the 68-70 "ideal" markings work OK for me.  I was just curious if anyone else had one that was off, even though the claim is "factory calibrated".  I had absolutely no intention of interrupting the gun debate.

Don't know about you all but I'm STUNNED that a gun debate ended up like this.
Wasn't even a gun debate, more like a statistics debate. Should be right up your alley. Haha

I didn't give enough of a shit to chime in.
We'll get back to whiskey now.

Whiskey kills people.
Get rid of it!
It's been tried - Prohibituon.  Didn't work so well.  Don't care what you ban, it doesn't change human behavior.  Can't ban human nature.  Oh, and GFY!
Prohibition worked very well in establishing organized crime, reducing regard for government oversight and making "good" people comfortable with breaking the law.
Would not have NASCAR without having had prohibition.
Ok, so one good thing...

That's about where I like it too.  I can go as low as 63%.  I used to keep it at 70% and found that it was way too wet.  TNWSS

Updated weather for PA:

THURSDAY: Clouds will mix with some sun. A coastal storm begins to push up from the south. It appears as though the storm is far enough off the coast to bring us nothing more than a few showers and some drizzle, especially during the afternoon. The high cools to 67.

FRIDAY: Clouds remain dominant as our coastal storm pulls-off tot he northeast. Some additional showers are possible. The high is 61.

It's certainly a nice looking hygrometer with regards to aesthetics.

Most of my hygrometers have been off by a few percentage points but given their stated inaccuracies, it's never been by enough to worry about. So long as they're reading within a 7-8 percentage range it's as good as I'm willing to pay for.

One of the nice things about our climate, among many, is that it's relative stable. We don't have massive swings between seasons, so I don't have to worry a ton about humidity levels in my cabinet. It stays pretty constant no matter what I do, and it's packed tight enough that any swings in reasons just from opening it bounce back quickly

TR-----And speaking of Prohibition, Al Capone's Star Island mansion in Miami has been totally restored and is up for sale.  A reporter from WPLG Ch 10 was interviewing Capone's Grand-niece, and she said "He really wasn't a bad person.  He was just terribly misunderstood".

I'm heading out, gents.  I've got a Perdomo Reserve Champagne Sun Grown that was gifted to me by some Texan.  Think I'll give it a shot.

NASCAR is so messed up these days that one good thing might be debatable.

Hi Dave, is that for Bethlehem or Lake Harmony where Split Rock is.  Since it's at a higher elevation in the Poconos, it's about 4-6 degrees colder up there (although I don't know about the RH :P ),  so bring your jackets guys, it does get pretty chilly if it's breezy and after dark.
