My personal opinion about guns... I don't like them.  I'm afraid of them.  I have no interest in shooting.  I defend to the death for the right of citizens to legally own them.  I think government needs to mind its business and allow us our freedoms.  I applaud the NRA for (pardon the pun) sticking to their guns with regard to gun control.  If they give an inch, the whole thing eventually falls apart.  I hope the Cigar Rights of America (CRA) grows stronger and learns something from the NRA.  {Antnee steps down from soap box}
But Tex and I will be there to make sure you don't have to die for our right to bear arms.  Gotcha covered.

Jokes aside - nicely said.  To borrow a frequent political slogan from the left, "If you don't like guns don't buy one."
That is right, If you need protect'n Bean, Raz, T Dave, Me, BS, CG, CB and everybody else here but Golf will be there shoot'n for you while golf throws out imaginary numbers at them.
"There you go again with them negative vibes, Moriarty!"
It is what it is and nothing else.

And I fully agree with every thing you have said.  While I support the GOA over the NRA what you say about the NRA is true.  Could care less if anyone personally likes or dislikes guns just leave mine alone and either live with our constitution and the rule of law or move to a country that has a system more suitable to your likings.

Amendment II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Bill of Rights was approved on December 15th, 1791.  At that time, pistols and rifles were single shot flintlocks.  The idea of multi-shot weapons, not to mention automatic weapons, was not even a dream.  And remember, the most conservative judge on the Supreme Court is Antonin Scalia, who firmly believes in interpreting the Constitution "AS IT WAS WRITTEN". Oh, and btw, I am a multiple gun owner.  Just sayin'.

Don't know about you all but I'm STUNNED that a gun debate ended up like this.
It ended?
Time for Golf to hazzuh so there is no further dissent.
We still have almost 30 minutes left.  Don't short change me!
That's right, JWacky is the only part timer on the payroll.
And short changed?
You said it....

Yeah, single shot flintlocks - just exactly like the military had.  See my point?

Wasn't even a gun debate, more like a statistics debate. Should be right up your alley. Haha

I didn't give enough of a shit to chime in.
We'll get back to whiskey now.

Whiskey kills people.
Get rid of it!
It's been tried - Prohibituon.  Didn't work so well.  Don't care what you ban, it doesn't change human behavior.  Can't ban human nature.  Oh, and GFY!
Prohibition worked very well in establishing organized crime, reducing regard for government oversight and making "good" people comfortable with breaking the law.

It was written to be a living document thus it did not limit the definition of things to that day.  Nowhere does it say limited to pistols, rifles or any other types of that day, etc.....and they had canons too!  At that time it clearly stated the right to....... without any definition, limitation or description to limit what arms are.  . thus fine use it as it is written.   Those guys were really amazing the way they wrote it into the future.

Glad you are a gun owner too KC!

Would not have NASCAR without having had prohibition.
