The first guess had narrowed the scope to ten words, but they were all common and there were no obvious choices based on known distributions. So, eeny-meeny, &c.

The second guess narrowed it to one. It was the movement of a yellow from the fourth position to the third position that iced it. It couldn't be in the fifth position, and I'd eliminated all other positions for that letter except the first. So I could only come up with one word at that point. As it turns out, Merriam Webster could only come up with one, too.

Ah, I see what he did now, I think. He used a particular letter in the final position that creates two distinct parts of speech that are common in usage, but never correct in the game. The game has a distinct bias against those parts of speech, and for good reason. The game would be damned near unwinnable, and people would quit playing.

I found another word that uses the first four letters, but I don't recall TD being a chemical engineer. ;-)
