Hey RunnerDave...how did the elections go?
Pretty much as expected here, no surprises. Local school levy to fix up the high school stadium was shot down pretty hard. Glad I send my kids out of the district. How's about you?
Welll we have a new $20 million High school stadium I will be happy to split my share of the cost with you.
Would've been a pretty good deal for the city, at about $30 a year in taxes, but we have far too many old folks in the city that vote down everything that has to do with the schools, no matter what it is.
THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!

I remember the days of going to the HS games when I was in Dallas, just unreal...bigger than most non-D1 colleges.
Unbelievable how much tax $ it costs me.  Even has a $580,000 jumbo tron tv.
I just don't get it - the education of our youth needs major attention right now, too many districts are struggling or unable to get adequate funding to support school work but we have enough to remodel sports complexes :)

Just got my property tax bill last Saturday and the School Tax was $6,200 in round numbers so $ ain't the problem.  And for those that believe anything politicians say (and school boards/administrators are nothing more than overpaid politicians) that sports complex was onlly going to cost me $8/month but miraculously it is about $400 per year.   Our district only has 1 high school, 1 middle schools and 3 elementary schools and the administrator makes $285,000/year.  It never ends and throwing money at the problem will not fix it.

That's about the 4/5th school tier for tax tier...not terrible, but still...DAMN.  I think my parents paid just over 7k this last year, mine is high 4s-low 5s

I am glad we don't have the property taxes you guys do, state and local sales taxes are 10% though.

I can't really blame the old folks. they raised their kids, paid their taxes, and now that they are living on fixed incomes they are still expected to pay school taxes they have no need for. yet people living in codos or apartment complexes don't pay a thing. that landlord should be assessed a rate by unit and family, though that would increase rent and force more people into public assistance forcing the working man to pay more taxes. I agree that education suffers across the country but we can build nice sports facilities and cut out the 'arts' from the curriculum.  with the republicans in office now you will see more handouts, buyouts, good old buddy deals, but you won't see your taxes go down or basic services improved upon.

rant over.

There is a new High School in a small city nearby that recently was built for $1 Billion (with a fucking "B").  All federal money.  It's got a police station (with jail) in the building.  Rifuckingdiculous!
