Just signed an 8 year 54 million dollar deal....averages 6.75 million a year. Not too shabby. I believe that puts him in the top 5 nationally.
Certainly up there but God only knows what the $ limit will be for next year the way things are going lately.
True, but I just believe that some folks are satisfied with what they got. Take Defensive coach Venables. Makes about 1.5 mil. Solid for an assistant coach. Name is mentioned every year for the head coaching vacancies. Reasons he stays, satisfaction, has a son entering Clemson next year, is not real enamored with the BS and CEO part of a head coach position. So there is probably only 5 or 6 positions that he would really consider. That satisfaction of coaches and players is a big reason Clemson has had the success it has.
Most coordinators are not able and/or interested in managing the alumni donors, media and internal politics associated with head coaching jobs in larger programs is why they choose to remain coordinators. They know their own limits so to speak , and I strongly admire that quality.
Same does not apply to head coaches though, they are pompous arrogant BS'rs with those special talents for the most part. The truly great ones have one more special skill set - recruiting!
