Happy Birthday, Sly!
Thank you, Tony, you're the first person to wish me a HBD.
Everyone has a party on my birthday.  I'm just not always invited.
Haven't chosen a cigar yet, but hope to have one and an adult beverage
while watching the 2 main college bowl games at 3 and 7pm.
Thanks again! (do I "win" a Cigarbanter XL sweatshirt?)

Night, brother. I stayed in tonight watching part of the Orange Bowl abstaining.
Did have a very good Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown Epicure earlier in the week.

good morning? I think not. looks like I'll be spending the day in the ER. had what I thought was a boil on the back of my neck but I now have two hard masses about the size of golf balls. very stiff and sore. just waiting for the lady to arrive to drive me. can't turn my head. going to be my financial ruin not having health insurance.

31° out heading to high 60's low 70's.

Oliva G torp and coffee as I wait.

not how I planned ending the year.

thanks Dave. I guess I should be grateful that with my RA gone untreated and no insurance since August 2014 that I haven't needed medical assistance. I don't believe what's going on with my neck is connected to my RA. if only it could have held out until April when my medicare kicks in.

Health issues just don't tend to show any respect for time and place.  Let's just pray it is nothing more than a cyst or something relatively simple.   Could also be lipomas such as what I had removed from my neck, that is also what my dog had on his leg and it came up fast like that.

Today is Saturday, Dec. 31, the 366th and final day of 2016.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Dec. 31, 1946, President Harry S. Truman officially proclaimed the end of hostilities in World War II.

On this date:

In 1775, during the Revolutionary War, the British repulsed an attack by Continental Army generals Richard Montgomery and Benedict Arnold at Quebec; Montgomery was killed.

In 1879, Thomas Edison first publicly demonstrated his electric incandescent light in Menlo Park, New Jersey.

In 1904, New York's Times Square saw its first New Year's Eve celebration, with an estimated 200,000 people in attendance.

In 1942, Frank Sinatra opened a singing engagement at New York's Paramount Theater.

In 1951, the Marshall Plan expired after distributing more than $12 billion in foreign aid.

In 1969, Joseph A. Yablonski, an unsuccessful candidate for the presidency of the United Mine Workers of America, was shot to death with his wife and daughter in their Clarksville, Pennsylvania, home by hit men acting at the orders of UMWA president Tony Boyle.

In 1972, Major League baseball player Roberto Clemente, 38, was killed when a plane he'd chartered and was traveling on to bring relief supplies to earthquake-devastated Nicaragua crashed shortly after takeoff from Puerto Rico.

In 1978, Taiwanese diplomats struck their colors for the final time from the embassy flagpole in Washington, D.C., marking the end of diplomatic relations with the United States.

In 1985, singer Rick Nelson, 45, and six other people were killed when fire broke out aboard a DC-3 that was taking the group to a New Year's Eve performance in Dallas.

In 1986, 97 people were killed when fire broke out in the Dupont Plaza Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. (Three hotel workers later pleaded guilty in connection with the blaze.)

In 1991, representatives of the government of El Salvador and rebels reached agreement at the United Nations on a peace accord to end 12 years of civil war.

In 2001, New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (joo-lee-AH'-nee) spent his final day in office praising police, firefighters, and other city employees in the wake of 9/11, and said he had no regrets about returning to private life

Ten years ago: The death toll for Americans killed in the Iraq war reached 3,000. Hundreds of Iraqis flocked to the village of Ouja (OO'-juh) where Saddam Hussein was born to see the deposed leader buried in a religious compound 24 hours after his execution. Ordinary Americans paid their respects to former President Gerald R. Ford, walking slowly by his flag-covered casket in the U.S. Capitol.

Five years ago: President Barack Obama signed a wide-ranging defense bill into law despite having "serious reservations" about provisions that regulated the detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected terrorists. A NASA GRAIL probe fired its engine and slipped into orbit around the moon in the first of two back-to-back arrivals over the New Year's weekend.

One year ago: Belgian authorities announced the arrest of a 10th person in connection with the Nov. 2015 bloodbath in Paris. A towering inferno engulfed a 63-story luxury hotel in Dubai as officials went ahead with a massive New Year's fireworks display (there were no serious injuries reported). Death claimed singer Natalie Cole at age 65; actor Wayne Rogers at age 82; and actress Beth Howland at age 74.

Yeah, I got it too but I didn't read it. Champagne. I get it. Clever. Not really.

Speaking of fermented grapes... I had some cognac yesterday after not having it in a really long time. I hated it. Don't like brandy, in general. The hard part is remembering that when the next really long time passes.

Yeah, you'll never remember that. Lol

Picked up some sparkling moscato for tonight. I'll start with rum at some point, then switch over around midnight. Kids are sleeping at the in-law's, and wife will be at work until about 9, so I may be half in the bag before she gets home.

Sparkling moscato sounds interesting. I like wine a lot but not a fan of the sparkling or distilled versions. We usually open a bottle of non-alcoholic cider and share it with the kids at midnight.

I was going through the liquor cabinet last night and realized I had a lot of crap and need to stock up on some quality stuff. I like bourbon and rye and have none of it, aside from a couple of bottles I left in my b&m locker.

There's tons of gin though so I'll be plying myself with martinis tonight.

We usually get them a bottle of that, too, when they're here. I'm not a huge wine fan, but the wife is. We've had this stuff a couple of times, usually on NYE. Lol

Don't have as much time to watch anymore, since I don't start at 4, but when I eat lunch, I usually have something on. Right now, I'm watching White Rabbit Project, which is a show done by Tory, Grant and Kari of Mythbusters fame.

No kidding! Did you hear the story about the parade? Some guy had started a Go Fund Me or something similar to fund the 0-16 parade. It was legit, they'd filed for permits and everything. Obviously, the win ruined it, so the guy donated all the money he'd collected, which was in the neighborhood of $10k, to the Cleveland Food Bank. And then later in the week, the Browns matched it. At least they were good sports about it.

Is it too early to start drinking now?
I am.
Well, there you have it then.

Dave...your Brownies blew their perfect season!
That's hilarious. I wanted an Owen 16 jersey too.

On a completely different note, what are you watching at work these days, Dave?
Don't have as much time to watch anymore, since I don't start at 4, but when I eat lunch, I usually have something on. Right now, I'm watching White Rabbit Project, which is a show done by Tory, Grant and Kari of Mythbusters fame.

Never heard of it. But I'm not surprised because there is so much programming being produced you couldn't possibly have heard of it all. Never saw Mythbusters either.

This house is never without Bloody Mary fix'ns!

I already spent an hour with the warden in the grocery store this morning.  That in itself is justification for alcohol consumption.

Same thing with me and rum. When someone asks why I have so many bottles, I tell them it's because I don't want to risk running out.

Although I do enjoy them now, I didn't used to. So I can probably count on two hands the number of Bloody Marys I've consumed in all my days. Never actually made one myself.

If it makes you feel any better, if you had insurance, they would've run a ridiculous amount of tests and billed you your deductible on all of them, just to tell you the same thing.
