It's Tuesday again! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars.  Join in and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!

Evening. Anyone have any experience with the Perdomo Lot 23? I've seen them around but never had one. $14 a 5 pack at the monster. Good? Bad? Meh?

Ok. Nevermind. Online reviews seem like "meh" is the answer. G'night all. Another time...

Not great, but better than meh. I think they can be had for about $2 apiece when on special. So that isn't the best price anyway.

Things are good. Went back to school. Wrapping up the first half of the second year of law school. Studying Constitutional law at the moment. Seems you must be burning your candle at both ends, carrying a day job and chiming in for evening (late night on the East coast) banter.

To whoever out there lurks in the wee hours (or interested parties that view this post in the morning), managed to step out to burn a La Traviata tonight. Not bad, but nothing particularly impressive. I'm hoping that it's just because it is fresh OTT, and that some rest will do it good. I might say it is particularly "earthy" with minimal spice. Of the two that showed up this week, La Traviata and Room 101 Le Master 2, the Room 101s are the preference flavor-wise by a substantial margin. 601, GH, AB samplers show up tomorrow (among others), after a week on the road. Might get in to one of those tomorrow night. The 101 PCs will tie me over 'till the rest are ready. :)

Today is Tuesday, Dec. 6, the 341st day of 2016. There are 25 days left in the year.

Today's Highlights in History:

On Dec. 6, 1889, Jefferson Davis, the first and only president of the Confederate States of America, died in New Orleans. The Mark Twain novel "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" was first published in England under the title "A Yankee at the Court of King Arthur" (it was published in the U.S. under its more familiar name four days later).

On this date:

In 1790, Congress moved to Philadelphia from New York.

In 1865, the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, abolishing slavery, was ratified as Georgia became the 27th state to endorse it.

In 1907, the worst mining disaster in U.S. history occurred as 362 men and boys died in a coal mine explosion in Monongah (muh-NAHN'-guh), West Virginia.

In 1916, the musical "Her Soldier Boy," featuring the song "Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag," opened on Broadway.

In 1917, some 2,000 people died when an explosives-laden French cargo ship collided with a Norwegian vessel at the harbor in Halifax, Nova Scotia, setting off a blast that devastated the city.

In 1922, the Anglo-Irish Treaty, which established the Irish Free State, came into force one year to the day after it was signed in London.

In 1939, the Cole Porter musical comedy "Du Barry Was a Lady" opened on Broadway.

In 1947, Everglades National Park in Florida was dedicated by President Harry S. Truman.

In 1957, America's first attempt at putting a satellite into orbit failed as Vanguard TV3 rose about four feet off a Cape Canaveral launch pad before crashing down and exploding.

In 1969, a free concert by The Rolling Stones at the Altamont Speedway in Alameda County, California, was marred by the deaths of four people, including one who was stabbed by a Hell's Angel.

In 1973, House minority leader Gerald R. Ford was sworn in as vice president, succeeding Spiro T. Agnew.

In 1989, 14 women were shot to death at the University of Montreal's school of engineering by a man who then took his own life.

Ten years ago: The bipartisan Iraq Study Group concluded that President George W. Bush's war policies had failed in almost every regard, and said the situation in Iraq was "grave and deteriorating." The Senate voted, 95-2, to confirm Robert Gates as defense secretary.

Five years ago: Declaring the American middle class in jeopardy, President Barack Obama, speaking in Osawatomie, Kansas, outlined a populist economic vision that would drive his re-election bid, insisting the United States had to reclaim its standing as a country in which everyone could prosper if provided "a fair shot and a fair share." A suicide bomber slaughtered 56 Shiite worshippers and wounded more than 160 others outside a shrine in Afghanistan's capital. Balladeer Dobie Gray, 69, who recorded the hit "Drift Away" in 1973, died in Nashville, Tennessee.

One year ago: In an Oval Office address, President Barack Obama vowed the U.S. would overcome a new phase of the terror threat that sought to "poison the minds" of people here and around the world, as he tried to reassure Americans shaken by recent attacks in Paris and California. Former President Jimmy Carter said his most recent brain scan showed no sign of cancer, four months after he was diagnosed with melanoma. A U.S. shipment of much-needed supplies rocketed toward the International Space Station. Venezuela's opposition won an upset in legislative elections against the ruling socialists. The Kennedy Center Honors recognized "Star Wars" creator George Lucas, singer-songwriter Carole King, actress-singer Rita Moreno, conductor Seiji Ozawa (SAY'-zhee oh-ZAH'-wah) and actress Cicely Tyson.

December 6 is...........Saint Nicholas Day

St. Nicholas Day is today. Yes, there really was a christian Saint Nicholas. He lived in the country of Greece, just a couple hundred years after the birth of Christ. This day is in honor of Saint Nicholas and his life.

Saint Nicholas became a priest, and later, a Bishop of the early Catholic Church. True to the christian concept of giving up belongings and following Christ, St. Nicholas gave up all of his belongings. He was well known for giving to needy people, especially children. There are may stories and tales of him helping out children in need.

The practice of hanging up stockings originated with Saint Nicholas. As the ancient legend goes, Saint Nicholas was known to throw small bags of gold coins into the open windows of poor homes. After one bag of gold fell into the stocking of a child, news got around. Children soon began hanging their stocking by their chimneys "in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there".

It wasn't until the 1800's that the spirit of St. Nicholas' life evolved into the creation of Santa Claus. And, this happened  in America. Santa Claus emerged (or evolved) from the stories and legends of St. Nicholas. Santa Claus was kind and generous to children. Unlike "St. Nick", Santa Claus is largely a non-religious character.

good morning men. phone was in update mode. just finished.
Is that like updating your little black book?
never had a little black book so I don't know.
I think the update has to do with the govt. being able to have easier access to mobile devices.
I don't believe you. Even Fonzie had a little black book. How's a man supposed to remember the names and phone numbers of all his conquests?
Well, I got a crumpled post it note....   :-\

Very nice cigar....reminds me of the Del Sol.  Well worth a try but definitely under $10/stick.

Lol. Tony came through. I was actually surprised. But, hey, coulda been other West coast BOTLs lurking. Anyways, I'm not above talking to myself.  :)
Time I saw your post, you'd already gone.

At least you saw it! How'd the review go? Was it you getting reviewed, or you reviewing something/someone else?

I was getting reviewed. I came armed to the teeth, in case I needed to go on a murderous rampage, but the boss said nice things. So we all get to live until next December.

Good job. It's nice when these things go well! For everybody... mwahaha  >:(

Yea, hold on, saw that you were in a tornado watch area as well.

I guess the choices in the land of oz are limited, aren't they.  Auntie Em might give you a good time, though.
A little too young, don't you think?
I hear the Wicked Witch is Very, Very Good!
never screw with anybody who has her own army of Flying Monkeys to command!

Speaking of participation trophies I saw the ultimate one last night at the city council meeting.  Had a few recognition ceremonies  and they recognized a local high school band for coming in 38th place in a state contest.

I wonder how many participants. I once got third in a slot-car competition; there were 4 entrants.  :-\

I'm searching for a room to be stuck in for 8ish hours a day and it's too cold to do it from outside on the patio.

Northerner problems. Fortunately I rid myself of those when I moved to Vancouver, and then Australia, and then California, and I haven't looked back. (Well, except for those 7 months or so in Northern Virginia...)  What line of work are you in (or looking to be in), Tony?

I work for the government. My boss has no say over what I'm paid. He has no say about WHETHER I'm paid. He only gets to record whether I generally do what I'm assigned or not.

So no, I didn't bring it up.

Mornin', Raz.
Morning, Mr. Mayor.
Y'all are being pretty nice for a Tuesday.  GFY's.
So with the new lady, how many females are at work now?
Two, which is my limit.  According to my performance ladder diversity plan I need to start stocking up on the Asians, Blacks, Jews, Native Americans, and transgender employees.
After that, maybe even a Yankee or two.... :o

There are definitely jobs out there but also tons of competition. I've been unemployed since mid October but only began looking in earnest in the last week. Been spending a bunch of time on a certification that I know I won't have time for, once employed.
