November 17 is...........Beaujolais Nouveau Day

Besides being a very longstanding Thanksgiving Wine choice for my family,

Wine has a long and august history, with an in-depth and diverse knowledge of the various vintages and styles being a hallmark of true upper class sophistication. But even among vintners and Oenophiliacs (wine lovers) there are certain vintages that have a reputation for excellence, and owning them is a hallmark of true wine snobbery. Those with a proper nose are able to distinguish a wine’s special bouquet, all of the subtle variations such as regions, varietal types of wine, and how the wine was manufactured.

So what does all of this have to do with Beaujolais nouveau day? Read on!

History of Beaujolais nouveau Day

Beaujolais nouveau is a special variety of wine produced from the delicious jewel-like Gamay grapes grown in the Beaujolais area of France. Such is the popularity of this vintage, that there is something of a competition to get the first bottles released for sale, and they’re always released on the Third Thursday in November. Part of what makes this wine unusual is that under the strict regulations on wine to be found in France, it is able to be sold in the same year in which it was harvested. Such wines are called vin de primeur, and tend towards grapes like the Gamay, capable of short fermentation while giving a rich fruity flavor sweetened by residual sugar.

Today is Thursday, Nov. 17, the 322nd day of 2016. There are 44 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Nov. 17, 1800, Congress held its first session in the partially completed U.S. Capitol building.

On this date:

In 1558, Elizabeth I acceded to the English throne upon the death of her half-sister, Queen Mary, beginning a 44-year reign.

In 1869, the Suez Canal opened in Egypt.

In 1889, the Union Pacific Railroad Co. began direct, daily railroad service between Chicago and Portland, Oregon, as well as Chicago and San Francisco.

In 1917, French sculptor Auguste Rodin (roh-DAN') died in Meudon at age 77.

In 1925, actor Rock Hudson was born Roy Harold Scherer Jr. in Winnetka, Illinois.

In 1934, Lyndon Baines Johnson married Claudia Alta Taylor, better known as Lady Bird, in San Antonio, Texas.

In 1947, President Harry S. Truman, in an address to a special session of Congress, called for emergency aid to Austria, Italy and France. (The aid was approved the following month.)

In 1968, NBC outraged football fans by cutting away from the closing minutes of a New York Jets-Oakland Raiders game to begin the TV special "Heidi" on schedule. (After being taken off the air, the Raiders came from behind to beat the Jets, 43-32.)

In 1973, President Richard Nixon told Associated Press managing editors in Orlando, Florida: "People have got to know whether or not their president is a crook. Well, I'm not a crook."

In 1979, Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini ordered the release of 13 black and/or female American hostages being held at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran.

In 1987, a federal jury in Denver convicted two white supremacists of civil rights violations in the 1984 slaying of radio talk show host Alan Berg. (Both men later died in prison.)

In 1991, the first national TV commercial for condoms (Trojan) aired during an episode of the Fox situation comedy "Herman's Head."

Ten years ago: Cast into the minority in midterm elections, House Republicans chose John Boehner (BAY'-nur) of Ohio to lead them. Ivan J. Hill was convicted in Los Angeles of being the "60 Freeway Slayer" of six women (Hill was later sentenced to death). The FDA ended a 14-year virtual ban on silicone-gel breast implants. College football coaching legend Bo Schembechler died in Southfield, Michigan, at age 77. Grammy- and Tony-winning singer Ruth Brown died in Henderson, Nevada, at age 78.

Five years ago: Occupy Wall Street protesters clogged streets and tied up traffic around the U.S. to mark two months since the movement's birth and signal they weren't ready to quit, despite the breakup of many of their encampments by police. Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers won the NL Cy Young Award. Baseball owners unanimously approved the sale of the Houston Astros from Drayton McLane to Jim Crane, which would lead to the team moving from the NL Central to the AL West for the 2013 season. Demi Moore said she was ending her 6-year marriage to Ashton Kutcher.

One year ago: Republicans urged an immediate closure of America's borders to Syrian refugees, drawing angry denunciations from President Barack Obama and other Democrats and igniting an emotional debate about U.S. values in the wake of the deadly Paris terror attacks. Actor Charlie Sheen issued a statement in which he said he was HIV positive, but that thanks to a rigorous drug regimen, he was in good health. Joe Maddon won his third Manager of the Year award and Jeff Banister his first after each guided his team on a surprising run to the playoffs. (In his initial season with the Chicago Cubs, Maddon took the National League prize following the club's first postseason appearance since 2008. Banister led Texas to 88 wins for the season - 21 more than the previous year - in capturing the AL West title.)

Such wines are called vin de primeur, and tend towards grapes like the Gamay, capable of short fermentation while giving a rich fruity flavor sweetened by residual sugar.

Duck Dynasty Ending with the 11th season being the last one.  Final episode is in April.  Lasted a long time.
Never watched an episode.
Nor I, however I'm binge-watching Breaking Bad, which I had never seen and always wanted to
You won't be disappointed. I wanna binge watch The Wire. I saw and loved the first 3 seasons and then waited for my wife to catch up. Never happened.
Just don't have that much time...as it is, it's taken me a couple of weeks to get all of Black Mirror, although I did get Stranger Things.

Read on!

Never trust the macaroni salad. It’ll turn on you when you least expect it.

This, after police in Mt. Morris, New York, apprehended three burglary suspects Sunday by following a trail of macaroni salad they left behind while making their getaway.

In a release published Monday morning, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office reports thieves broke in and stole a cash register from Build-A-Burger Restaurant, along with the establishment’s entire surveillance system and a large bowl of macaroni salad.

Deputies were hot on the criminals’ trail, literally, as they attempted to escape via the nearby Greenway Trail.

“Found along the trail were cash register parts, surveillance system parts, rubber gloves, loose change and a steady trail of macaroni salad,” the sheriff’s office said. “It was later discovered that the suspects stole a large bowl of macaroni salad, which they took turns eating, along their escape route.”

Officers arrested Matthew P. Sapetko, 34, James P. Marullo, 35, and Timothy S. Walker Jr., 23, by early Sunday afternoon. The three have been charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree grand larceny. Walker faces additional charges for criminal possession of a controlled substance, say police.

A pair of would-be Chicago restaurant robbers have proved not every crime has a “mastermind” behind it.

Chicago police and prosecutors say Mario Garcia, 39, and Domingo Garcia-Hernandez, 28, went to the Clifton Grill in West Rogers Park late Sunday demanding food and telling the owner, “I will kill you, I have a gun with me,’’ the Tribune reports.

Concerned for his customers’ safety, police say the owner told the men he was too busy but to come back in an hour — and they did.

According to CBS Chicago when the men showed up a second time just after midnight, they demanded $100 in addition to food. The owner told the guys he needed to get his wife’s check book, which bought him enough time to call police.

The men were charged with one count of attempted aggravated robbery each. Garcia-Hernandez is also charged with possession of a replica firearm, United Press International reports. According to police, the replica used: a squirt gun.

LEVITTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Investigators say a customer who shot two brothers who allegedly tried to rob a Bucks County pizza shop will not be charged.

District Attorney Matt Weintraub says he had a license to carry, but his permit was recently expired. Officials say the man is a business owner, who carried the gun for his own protection.

"He is a lifelong, law-abiding citizen and yes, you do get credit for that. A business owner who had the gun solely for his own protection and thank God he did," Weintraub said.

Meanwhile, police say the guns that the brothers used were actually airsoft guns.

It happened after 10 p.m. Tuesday at Porfirio's II Pizza and Pasta in the 900 block of Veteran Highway (Route 413) near Trenton Road.

"Everything happened so fast. Everything got crazy," Porfirio's co-owner Alex Lara said.

Middletown Township Police say the the customer and two employees were inside when two armed men entered the restaurant.

"They were wearing dark clothing, backpacks, had hoods up, face masks on, gloves, brandishing handguns," said Middletown Twp. Police Lt. Stephen Forman.

Police say they were yelling commands at the customer, who complied, backed away and put his hands up.

Investigators say the brothers, Shawn and Justin Rose of Bucks County, pistol-whipped the customer.

"When the armed suspect looked away for a moment, the customer pulled out a .45 caliber handgun from beneath his jacket. He shot the man who had just pistol-whipped him once in the torso, killing him," Weintraub said.

The man killed was identified as 24-year-old Shawn Rose.

The customer then turned to 22-year-old Justin Rose, who was pointing the gun at the clerk, and fired twice. Authorities say the suspect fell through the pizza shop's front door.

Justin was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne in serious condition and later transferred to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia in critical condition.

The customer refused medical treatment for lacerations and abrasions to his head.

"He was pistol-whipped," said Forman. "They were very aggressive. He was in imminent fear of his life, and believed that was his only option to get out of there that night."

The shop's other owner, Gilmer Porfirio, says he can't thank that customer enough.

"To me his is part of the family, now. He's a hero," Porfirio said.

Officials say security video captured the attempted robbery, pistol whipping, and the shooting.

an old text from the redhead:
Je manque la chaleur de votre corps contre le mien;
Je manque le son de votre respiration régulière;
Imiss le bruit de votre battement de coeur contre mon oreille;
Je manque la sensation de vos mains verrouillées avec les miens;
Je manque le confort d'être dans vos bras;
Je manque le son de votre voix;
Tout me manque chez toi. Je veux juste être avec toi.
I'm not even gonna attempt this one. My head hurts.
Well, Je manque is I miss....
So the first sentence is I miss you bringing me lo mein
Then I'm glad I'm still breathing
I miss your hammering at the heart of my......
Although I would prefer chicken lo mein
And wish you would bring back my bra
Glad you put cheez on my burger
Can't stop laughing!  Thanks for sharing, Dean.
Thanks, Dave, for the wacky translation.

What's with these namby-pamby robbers??....in Philly, we address them properly:
Choot 'em!

Yes, and the public would have paid for it, too. But it would have been a smaller slice of the public, and it would have been calibrated to the local potential for other similar instances. Under Obamacare, it's the entire nation that pays, and we get little-to-no benefit for avoiding Levittown.

Holt's email regarding AKA line inventory dump.  I know nothing about this line, but the CCB pricing has piqued my interest.  Comments?

I've tried a couple of them either as a trial 5er or as singles at a B&M.  Not bad, but nothing noteworthy.  Worth it as a $2 cigar, but don't know that I would want a box (as I'm not bulking up on FUFDA tupperdores)

Thank for that informed and helpful response.  I think I'll pass on them, cram hole cramming potential notwithstanding.

Whats your top price for the box of LD's?
Put in a max bid of $40, which is where it's at now.  Only 2 boxes on the block, so rather unlikely to get them at that price.

You are probably correct, the best I've ever done is $30/10, FS.  But the cheapy cheapo credo requires that I get it cheaper, so when factoring in the shipping, my hands are tied!
