Today is Wednesday, Nov. 2, the 307th day of 2016. There are 59 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Nov. 2, 1976, former Georgia Gov. Jimmy Carter became the first candidate from the Deep South since the Civil War to be elected president as he defeated incumbent Gerald R. Ford.

On this date:

In 1795, the 11th president of the United States, James Knox Polk, was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

In 1865, the 29th president of the United States, Warren Gamaliel Harding, was born near Marion, Ohio.

In 1889, North Dakota and South Dakota became the 39th and 40th states with the signing of proclamations by President Benjamin Harrison.

In 1914, during World War I, Russia declared war on the Ottoman Empire.

In 1936, the British Broadcasting Corp. inaugurated "high-definition" television service from Alexandra Palace in London.

In 1947, Howard Hughes piloted his huge wooden flying boat, the Hughes H-4 Hercules (derisively dubbed the "Spruce Goose" by detractors), on its only flight, which lasted about a minute over Long Beach Harbor in California.

In 1948, President Harry S. Truman surprised the experts by winning a narrow upset over Republican challenger Thomas E. Dewey.

In 1950, playwright George Bernard Shaw, 94, died in Ayot St. Lawrence, Hertfordshire, England.

In 1963, South Vietnamese President Ngo Dihn Diem (noh ding ZEE'-em) was assassinated in a military coup.

In 1986, kidnappers in Lebanon released American hospital administrator David Jacobsen after holding him for 17 months.

In 1994, a jury in Pensacola, Florida, convicted Paul Hill of murder for the shotgun slayings of abortion provider Dr. John Britton and Britton's bodyguard; Hill was executed in Sept. 2003.

In 2000, an American astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts became the first residents of the international space station, christening it Alpha.

Ten years ago: The Rev. Ted Haggard resigned as president of the National Association of Evangelicals after a man said they'd had sexual trysts together (Haggard later confessed he was guilty of sexual immorality). Gunmen in Iraq killed the Shiite dean of Baghdad University's school of administration and economics.

Five years ago: The Congressional Gold Medal was awarded to some 19,000 Japanese-Americans who'd served in the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service.

One year ago: President Barack Obama toured a drug rehabilitation center and met with former inmates in Newark, New Jersey, where he called on the nation to ensure those regaining their freedom got a second chance instead of a return ticket to prison. NASA and its global partners celebrated the 15th anniversary of continuous residency at the International Space Station, where six U.S., Russian and Japanese crew members held a special dinner. Actor-writer Colin Welland, 81, who won an Academy Award for his screenplay for "Chariots of Fire," died in London. Country singer Tommy Overstreet, 78, died in Hillsboro, Oregon.

I blame the fans of both teams. So far, each team only won a game apiece at home. So is having home field really an advantage? I guess we'll find out tonight.

I don't think it will be as easy for him this time. They've already seen him twice. Same goes for Chapman. Not sure how effective he can be. Thought it was a big mistake for Maddon to put him in at all yesterday with the lead that they had.

I knew they did but up until a few days ago I have never seen the other vitola's on daily deals.  I believe CB once recommended one of the other vitolas but don't remember which one.

I have only tried the toro's that have always been on the specials.

This may be a good one depending on sizes offered
IF only they would have some Warheads!  No, I am not even dreaming that might happen.

Let's turn our attention to cigars for a moment. Apparently there is a Mash-up taking place. Didn't realize the Nica Rusticas came in any other vitolas. Has anyone here tried the Belicoso - 7 1/2 x 54 ?
Too big for me...I stick with the El Brujito (6.0 x 52) and sometimes the robusto (4.5 x 50)

I blame the fans of both teams. So far, each team only won a game apiece at home. So is having home field really an advantage? I guess we'll find out tonight.
Fans?  What fans?  Fans can't afford those tickets.
I blame the fans for being too poor.
Typical, for a mayor. It's the little people's fault.

Absolutely. By the way, there still time to write my name in for the the big election.
I've already endorsed the Dean/Tex ticket. But...well, you're from Jersey. How much you offering for my vote?
Speaking of politics... maybe y'all can help me out with this one. Local congressman election commercial is attempting to trash the opponent by claiming he's "an unskilled liar". Isn't that a good thing??
It's Jersey.

No, Hillary represent only half of what is wrong with America, The Donald represents the other half.

Need to sign him up for Hillary's Master Class.
Indeed.  The final exam is to get passed an FBI inquiry and congressional committee appearance unscathed.  She's a true sensei.
That has more to do with the stupidity of the public than the skill of the liar.
Oh, wait...I forgot.  That's "Madam Liar" to me.

Actually I think raz was correct.  Isn't' she "her majesty" to you, anyway?
Yep, he was right. That's my bad.

This IS still the banter, it's cb's fault.
But it is not CB's Banter so it can well be Hillary's fault or Raz's fault

....actually, they overlap a lot....probably each represents 3/4 of whats wrong.

Need to sign him up for Hillary's Master Class.
Indeed.  The final exam is to get passed an FBI inquiry and congressional committee appearance unscathed.  She's a true sensei.
That has more to do with the stupidity of the public than the skill of the liar.

Yep, he was right. That's my bad.
Hilary's fault.
This IS still the banter, it's cb's fault.
But it is not CB's Banter so it can well be Hillary's fault or Raz's fault
Hillary represents all that is wrong with America.  It's her fault.

And how the hell did I get dragged into the blame game?
No, Hillary represent only half of what is wrong with America, The Donald represents the other half.
....actually, they overlap a lot....probably each represents 3/4 of whats wrong.
Exactly.  And I'm horrified that I won't be able to avoid seeing and hearing one or the other for at least the next four years.  Could somebody please disappear them both?
Great. Now this site will be investigated.
What are you worried about, Mohammed?

Let's turn our attention to cigars for a moment. Apparently there is a Mash-up taking place. Didn't realize the Nica Rusticas came in any other vitolas. Has anyone here tried the Belicoso - 7 1/2 x 54 ?
I knew they did but up until a few days ago I have never seen the other vitola's on daily deals.  I believe CB once recommended one of the other vitolas but don't remember which one.

I have only tried the toro's that have always been on the specials.
The Belly - mellower than the Rustica but still just a variation on a theme

Gorgeous night out here in northern NJ. Wish I had Fish's setup so I could smoke and watch the game.

By the way, my daughter's team won 3-1. She had an assist and played really well.

Fucking Maddon is gonna lose this game. Even a fat non-athlete like me could have seen this coming. I believe I called it this morning. FML!

He took Hendricks out too early, he took Lester out too early, and he put Chapman in too soon.

Good morning boys, clunker for the tribe last night. I think things will be much different with Kluber on the mound tonight
I don't think it will be as easy for him this time. They've already seen him twice. Same goes for Chapman. Not sure how effective he can be. Thought it was a big mistake for Maddon to put him in at all yesterday with the lead that they had.
Sheesh!

He didn't need to pitch Chapman last night either

Question is: who pitches the bottom of the ninth?

I'm not being a Monday morning quarterback here... This should be obvious to any big league manager, no?

I'd put in Mike Montgomery.

Especially if they can manage to take the lead again.

No other sport can build this kind of suspense for this long a period of time

I imagine so. And now he's sending Chapman back out. I think I'm gonna flip the site and go to bed. This is not good for my blood pressure.

He couldn't find the plate last inning

I thought that was it. Foul ball gives the Cubs a new life. If he walks the next batter, it's over.
