Today is Friday, May 27, the 148th day of 2016. There are 218 days left in the year.

Today's Highlights in History:

On May 27, 1941, the British Royal Navy sank the German battleship Bismarck off France with a loss of some 2,000 lives, three days after the Bismarck sank the HMS Hood with the loss of more than 1,400 lives. Amid rising world tensions, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed an "unlimited national emergency" during a radio address from the White House.

On this date:

In 1896, 255 people were killed when a tornado struck St. Louis, Missouri, and East St. Louis, Illinois.

In 1929, Charles A. Lindbergh Jr. married Anne Morrow in Englewood, New Jersey.

In 1933, the Chicago World's Fair, celebrating "A Century of Progress," officially opened. Walt Disney's Academy Award-winning animated short "The Three Little Pigs" was first released.

In 1935, the U.S. Supreme Court, in Schechter Poultry Corp. v. United States, unanimously struck down the National Industrial Recovery Act, a key component of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's "New Deal" legislative program.

In 1936, the Cunard liner RMS Queen Mary left England on its maiden voyage to New York. The first Aer Lingus flight took place as a de Havilland Dragon carried five passengers from Dublin to Bristol, England.

In 1937, the newly completed Golden Gate Bridge connecting San Francisco and Marin County, California, was opened to pedestrian traffic (vehicles began crossing the next day).

In 1942, Navy Cook 3rd Class Doris "Dorie" Miller became the first African-American to receive the Navy Cross for his "extraordinary courage and disregard for his own personal safety" during Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor.

In 1944, Jean-Paul Sartre's existentialist play "Huis clos" (known in English as "No Exit") was first performed in Paris.

In 1962, a dump fire in Centralia, Pennsylvania, ignited a blaze in underground coal deposits that continues to burn to this day.

In 1964, independent India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, died.

In 1985, in Beijing, representatives of Britain and China exchanged instruments of ratification for an accord returning Hong Kong to Chinese control in 1997.

In 1998, Michael Fortier (FOR'-tee-ur), the government's star witness in the Oklahoma City bombing case, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after apologizing for not warning anyone about the deadly plot. (Fortier was freed in Jan. 2006.)

Ten years ago: A 6.3-magnitude earthquake in central Indonesia killed some 5,800 people. Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, was born in Namibia, where the family had traveled for privacy.

Five years ago: Astronauts Mike Fincke and Gregory Chamitoff made history as the final spacewalkers of NASA's 30-year shuttle program, completing construction of the International Space Station with the smooth addition of an extension pole. Rich countries and international lenders said at a Group of Eight summit in Deauville, France, they were aiming to provide $40 billion in funding for Arab nations trying to establish democracy, starting with Egypt and Tunisia. President Barack Obama, visiting Poland, honored the memories of those slain in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising against Nazis. Gil Scott-Heron, 62, widely considered one of the godfathers of rap music, died in New York. Actor Jeff Conaway died at a hospital in Encino, California; he was 60.

One year ago: The U.S. government launched an attack on what it called deep-seated and brazen corruption in soccer's global governing body, FIFA, indicting 14 influential figures on charges of racketeering and taking bribes. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, an aggressive advocate for conservative family values, launched a 2016 Republican White House bid. Nebraska's Legislature abolished the death penalty over the objections of Gov. Pete Ricketts, a Republican supporter of capital punishment.

Big shakings in Waco...and I don't mean Joanna going out for a night on the town...

Baylor football coach Art Briles has been suspended with intent to terminate, part of major changes the university announced Thursday in response to a scathing review of its handling of sexual assault allegations made against students, including several football players.

In addition, Kenneth Starr no longer will serve as Baylor president, although he will remain at the school. In a statement issued later Thursday, Starr apologized to the "victims who were not treated with the care, concern and support they deserve."

I would say Baylor is going to be shelling out more than a few bucks over the coming years. With that report basically doing the work for any legal team, I don't see them even bothering to fight a case in court.  And in this case (you know what I think about lawyers...) deservedly so.  I just can't believe administration got off as lightly as it did.  They are the ones that failed the women once charges were brought.

Since Baylor pussy-footed around and only changed Starr's title and Slapped the AD's hand I wonder if the NCAA might step up and actually do something significant since they classified this as a Title IX issue which I totally disagree with, since when is rape a "student discrimination issue"?
While the initial focus was on equity in availability and funding of female sport as compared to mens sports, it also includes:

... maintain that "when students suffer sexual assault and harassment, they are deprived of equal and free access to an education."[54] Further, according to an April 2011 letter issued by the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, "The sexual harassment of students, including sexual violence, interferes with students' right to receive an education free from discrimination and, in the case of sexual violence, is a crime."[55]

Hot Water Heater.....  I needed a new hot water heater about 7 years ago, so I went to Lowes and bought the 40 gal. Whrilpool gas for around $399.  About a year later, my mother needed a hot water heater, so off to Lowes I went for another Whrilpool Gas water heater again for around $300.  But this time as I was leaving the store, a customer stopped me and said, "Don't buy that one, and read about the lawsuit online."  Well, when your out of hot water it starts to get desperate, so I bought it anyway. Besides, I already had one, so knew I liked it.

About a year later the polite light would not stay lit on mine.  No problem, since a new thermal coupler isn't that hard to replace, so I took the old one out.  Ought Oh...!!!  Whrilpool thought it would be nice to use a right handed thermal coupler that only Whrilpool sells.  So, now to overnight some parts.

I get the new thermal coupler, and it does not fix the problem.  I call Whrilpool and they tell me that I need a new burner.  Now I send for the parts and replace the burner which I really didn't want to do, since I had to work with the gas line, but I changed it.  Again it didn't work.

Call Whrilpool, and they assured me that I had put it in wrong and I had to take it out and reinstall it.

Cutting the story short, "It never did fix the problem."  I decided to check on line, and it seems that Whrilpool made a bunch of defective hot water heaters with defective gas valves.  I went to Lowes, and low and behold, right next to the water heater I purchased was a big stack of gas valves.  No other water heater had replacement gas valves except mine.  Within the year, my mothers new water heater did the same thing, same problem, same solution from Whrilpool.  Lowes knew they were defective, but that continued to sell them.

So I finally decided to just buy a different brand, but guess what, "THEY ARE ALL MADE IN MEXICO, and all shitt...!"

I got onto the internet and researched contractors that build apartment complexes and found out that there were only 2 hot water heaters made in the United States.  One was the BRADFORD WHITE.  I found one about 25 miles from me at a contract supply store.  They only sell to contractors, but when I told them my story they said, "We know exactly what you mean, come on over and we'll fix ya up...!"

I don't know anything about the electric water heaters, but if you need a gas one, I suggest you spend a little more money and get one from the U.S.

No problem. Thought about those myself, but can't really find any reviews online. Which is probably ok, cause I don't have room for them anyways.
I need some coronas. Blend is different than old REO. Only out25 or great find.

Looks like my desire for money has overridden my desire to have a 4-day weekend, so I'll be back in the morning for OT. Guess we'll call it a 3 and a half day weekend.

Oh yeah and then there was the cleaners experience. Young  Non Murican girl that barely spoke any English at the counter while the manager strutted around talking big on his cell phone.  Bill was $28.01 and I had no change in my pocket giving her 2 $20 bills.  Dumbass stands there and counts out the 99cents change rather than saying fuk the penny.  One of the two most overpriced ripoff cleaning operations in town and they count out 99 cents in change.

Yes they do, we go to Cayman Islands to hide our money.  And if Hillary wins there is a very high probability I will move there when I retire.

UPS just delivered my Room 101 package of goodies.  Free ashtrays are pretty nice and the craziest looking cigar scissors I ever saw, looks like they may double as brass knuckles or something.

I am so tempted to hit those again, Fuk'n boxes are with the price.

Yea, most likely.  Served up to them on a silver platter (just like the pending lawsuits from the women affected).  No one will second guess any action they take in this one.
