Today is Sunday, April 3, the 94th day of 2016. There are 272 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On April 3, 1936, Bruno Hauptmann was electrocuted in Trenton, New Jersey, for the kidnap-murder of Charles Lindbergh Jr.

On this date:

In 1776, George Washington received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Harvard College.

In 1860, the legendary Pony Express began carrying mail between St. Joseph, Missouri, and Sacramento, California. (The delivery system lasted only 18 months before giving way to the transcontinental telegraph.)

In 1865, Union forces occupied the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia.

In 1882, outlaw Jesse James was shot to death in St. Joseph, Missouri, by Robert Ford, a member of James' gang.

In 1946, Lt. Gen. Masaharu Homma, the Japanese commander held responsible for the Bataan Death March, was executed by firing squad outside Manila.

In 1948, President Harry S. Truman signed the Marshall Plan, designed to help European allies rebuild after World War II and resist communism.

In 1965, the United States launched the SNAP-10A nuclear power system into Earth orbit; it was the first nuclear reactor sent into space.

In 1968, the day before he was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous "mountaintop" speech to a rally of striking sanitation workers.

In 1979, Democrat Jane M. Byrne was elected mayor of Chicago, defeating Republican Wallace D. Johnson.

In 1985, the landmark Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant closed after 56 years in business.

In 1991, English novelist Graham Greene died at age 86.

In 1996, Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski (kah-ZIHN'-skee) was arrested at his remote Montana cabin. An Air Force jetliner carrying Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and American business executives crashed in Croatia, killing all 35 people aboard. Former Cleveland Mayor Carl Stokes, the first black elected mayor of a major U.S. city, died at age 68.

Ten years ago: Former Liberian President Charles Taylor pleaded not guilty before an international war crimes tribunal in Sierra Leone, denying he'd helped destabilize West Africa through killings, sexual slavery and sending children into combat. (Taylor was later convicted of all 11 counts against him, and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.) Florida beat UCLA, 73-57, to win its first NCAA title in men's basketball. Charles Barkley, Dominique Wilkins and Joe Dumars were among six people elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Five years ago: The United States agreed to NATO's request for a 48-hour extension of American participation in coalition air strikes against targets in Libya. Marine Lance Cpl. Harry Lew fatally shot himself at a remote Afghanistan patrol base; three Marines were court-martialed for alleged hazing. (Two were acquitted; one pleaded guilty to assault after admitting he'd punched and kicked Lew.)

One year ago: Information retrieved from the "black box" data recorder of a doomed German airliner showed its co-pilot repeatedly accelerated the plane before it slammed into a French mountainside, killing all 150 people on board. Pope Francis, presiding at the traditional Good Friday Colosseum procession, decried what he called the "complicit silence" about the killing of Christians. Frank Kaminsky, the 7-footer who anchored Wisconsin's run to a second straight Final Four, was the runaway choice as The Associated Press' player of the year; John Calipari of Kentucky was selected The Associated Press' coach of the year. Sarah Brady, who became a gun control activist after her husband, James, was shot in the head in the attempt on President Ronald Reagan's life, died in Alexandria, Virginia, at age 73, eight months after being widowed.

I have a small collection of pipe stuff but never bothered with a stand.

To be used while sitting and smoking? Or for displaying?

If for the prior, I'm never sitting and smoking a pipe. It's always when I'm on the go and I have no time for a cigar.

I have a stand with 5 pipes in it and a pipe lighter sitting on top of my cigar humidor.  They have not been used in at least 25 years, in fact I found them in the garage a while back and one has a dirt dobber nest in it.   A couple of them were my uncle's and probably at least 50 years old as he died around 45 years ago.

In numerical terms if you pay $50 for a 5 pack you get $1 worth of points on some overpriced cigars.  Decide for yourself.

The reason why you ain't never smoked a pipe is no one ever showed you the right way to smoke one and second of all you never smoked the right tobacco there are very few good aromatics

I've enjoyed a few bowls. I have about 20 different blends. But in general, I prefer a cigar.

I'll quit the pipe. But one thing real quick is the most cigar smokers would not like an aromatic because they are used to the strong tobacco taste from the cigar aromatic would just taste like an acid to them rant over

I hear you. Every so often, I get into a pipe mood. I was taking a lot of notes on the various blends at one time. Then I got bored and stopped. Probably my favorite combination was the Davidoff Green Mixture in a Meerschaum lined Briar. I really like the McClelland 5100 Red Cake and the Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader too.

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- An Aiken couple is suing the Aiken Department of Public Safety, the City of Aiken, and a number of deputies after they say deputies performed an illegal cavity search in public.

The suit alleges gross negligence, recklessness, and other liabilities of officers involved, the management of the department, and the department and city as a whole.

According to the lawsuit, Lakey Hicks and Elijah Pontoon were driving down Richland Avenue in the afternoon on October 2, 2014 in a newly purchased car. Reportedly, an officer pulled the car over because of the paper tag.

The suit alleges the officer asked for both of the plaintiffs I.D.'s and paperwork for the car. It continues to say that the deputy recognized one of the people in the car while he was working on narcotics, so he decides to call for a K9 and search the vehicle.

Reportedly, three other officers and a K9 help search the vehicle and are unable to find anything. Then, it states, the deputies search each of the plaintiffs in broad daylight.

It alleges a female officer lifted up the shirt of Hicks in broad daylight during the search. Then the officers allegedly began a search of Pontoon. The lawsuit states that search included a full cavity search done by multiple officers at the same time, all in public.

After the search, the lawsuit states the couple is given a warning, even though it states no drugs were found on them.

The couple originally filed the suit on September 21, 2015. In November of 2015 it was moved to District Court.

News 12 NBC 26 has reached out to Aiken Public Safety for comment, as well as for copies of the dash camera video from this incident.

At least they didn't find any prostate issues either. And no co-payment.

People need to learn to look at the brighter side.
