Ten years ago: North Korea pledged to drop its nuclear weapons development and rejoin international arms treaties, but its leaders backpedaled the next day, demanding civilian nuclear reactors from the U.S. In a statement aired on a pan-Arab TV station, Al-Qaida deputy Ayman al-Zawahri (AY'-muhn ahl-ZWAH'-ree) said his terror network had carried out the July 7 London bombings that killed 52 people. Former Tyco CEO L. Dennis Kozlowski was sentenced in New York to 8 1/3 to 25 years in prison for looting the company of hundreds of millions of dollars; Tyco's former finance chief, Mark Swartz, received the same sentence. Shortly after President Obama and his daughters left the White House by helicopter, a man with a knife jumped the fence and made it into the presidential residence before being tackled. (Omar Gonzalez, an Army veteran with mental health issues, was later sentenced to 17 months in prison.) A federal jury in Albany, Georgia, convicted the owner of a peanut plant and two others in a salmonella outbreak linked to several deaths that prompted one of the largest U.S. food recalls. (Peanut Corporation of America owner Stewart Parnell is scheduled to be sentenced on September 21.) Old Maid
-------------------------

In a tiny village lived an old maid. In spite of her old age, she was
still a virgin. She was very proud of it. She knew her last days were
getting closer, so she told the local undertaker that she wanted the
following inscription on her tombstone:

"Born as a virgin, lived as a virgin, died as a virgin"

Not long after, the old maid died peacefully. The undertaker, true to
his word, instructed his men to inscribe on the tombstone what the
lady had requested. The men went to carve it, but as they were lazy
and it was close to quitting time, they decided the inscription was
unnecessarily long. So they simply carved:

"Returned unopened."

My one neighbor likes to signal some one in his house when he leaves at 5:50 a.m. by tooting his horn, toot, toot, a toot, toot, (toot, toot).  So that's always nice to heard.  And my other neighbor sets off their car alarm on their 1995 beat up truck every time they start it.  That's been going on for about 5 years now, and they still haven't figured out the car alarm.  My wife's car has a panic button that flashes the lights and honks the horn. So the first thing she said was, "now we can get even with the neighbors..." :)

I think we have a law that if your caught taking a leak on the golf course, you'll go into the sex offender list. But I'm not completely sure since I don't play golf.

good morning guys. EPC 2nd and coffee here. I have new neighbors. they like to yell at each other early in the morning. we are going to get along just fine.
Morning Dean, better you than me with the neighbors!
of course you know I don't mind my own business and hate domestic violence so you know what's going to happen eventually.
You going to get evicted?
or get arrested.
Sounds like the smart thing to do.

Then you got evicted and as I remember you said you learned your lesson and were going to mind your own business or something to that effect.  Next time the cease and desist order may be delivered by a bullet.

My wife came in the other night and was upset that her back up camera on her new car wasn't working.  I looked out the living room window and our street lights were off, and it was one of the darkest nights I've ever seen.  I said, "let me know how it works in the morning when the sun is up..."  The next morning she was happy because it started working again.  I said, "it's not broke, it just doesn't work in total darkness.."
or have the garage install spot lights for back up lights.
It should work with the backup lights already on it.
Not really, backup lights are pretty much like brake lights.  Meant to be seen by others, not for illumination.

On my car, it illuminates it fine.  Good morning, men.
Morning Mayor T, another full day of kiddy duties for you?
Yup.  Been out since 7:30.  Boys just finished a soccer game.  We don't keep score at this early age but Max might have mentioned that they won 11-1.  ;)
LOL, some adults actually believe this kids are not keeping score. :D
I'm cool with that.  Anyhoo, gotta get to the next game.  See yuz.
Win!
No....it's not important to win.  It's important to play well, have fun and feel good about yourself.
That way you are sure to be emotionally fragile and totally unprepared for the real world.
LMFAO!  I'm with ya.  My wife yells at me that I need to stop preaching to the kids how much life sucks.  Oh well.
But it does! Da trut and nuthin' but dat trut! Yo Antnee!
I'm with ya Mikey.  I'm already resolved to the fact that I will always be wrong.
Whatever gave you the idea you could ever be right?
Indeed. His relative youth betrays a glimmer of idealism and fairness, only recently extinguished.
LMAO!

Nope, in Dallas waiting for my connection.  Love Field. Based on the line length, the most popular restaurants here are Whataburger and ChickFila. Sheesh.
Could be the restaurants with the slowest service.  Folks is waiting.

First beer info for the day:
Did you know the Dos Equis  "Most Interesting Man in the World" guy is Jonathan Goldsmith who is Jewish and from NY?
No but As Seen On TV is usually a fraud.  IMHO it is crappy beer too.
I enjoy the amber on occasion.
One of the better Mexican beers, which isn't saying a lot, but whatever.
Only Mexican beers I like are Tacate and Pacifica with my overwhelming preference being Pacifica which I actually like a lot.
Negra Modelo ain't bad.
That's my other choice as well.  Usually what I drink when in Mexico.
Does that make you the most interesting Dave in the world?
That's an awful big sample size.

They got a fair number of better food choices there, actually one of the better airports now.

You want me to go out to the airport here to make sure you get here on time?

Agree on Love Field. Disagree on that other idea.  Wait until NJDave is headed back to town, I'm sure he'd appreciate your assistance.
OK just trying to help out since you had issues with your last flight.
Yeah, you can stop helping now, AirlineAlbatrossDave.
Just for that I am going to start helping you on every flight ;D
What did you do to deserve that Bean?

It is just amazing how these small paid for play teams with nothing to lose can play a great game then chit-the-bed with stupid play in the last quqrter and throw it all away.  In this particular case it would be Connecticut who held MO to one touchdown and a safety.

Actually I have not seen that and enjoyed it.  Then I read the comments and stand totally amazed at the stupidity of people not understanding why they don't sell them to the public ::). While it is not the reason they don't sell them but people would chit a brick if they had any idea how much it cost to produce one of those.

That's why I do IDPA - so that I have SO's watching and warning me of any bad habits I might develop.

Been having to work on my reloading technique. Last match the SO was pointing out that I remove my finger from the trigger when dropping the magazine, but I was keeping it curled away instead of indexing on the slide. I'd have never noticed.

Gotta have eyes on you on a regular basis, or stupid can creep in.

Yeah, totally agree...The local ranges here will not allow you to draw and fire.  I am ok with that because you never know what the guy next to you at the range would do....That said, I have trained myself to not put my finger inside the guard until I intend to fire....

Fortunately, that's something that can be practiced at home with a cleared gun. Though I still advocate finding a local IDPA club and joining. It's a mind-blower how much I've learned doing that.

I am with you on the range fire, too many first time buyers out there.  Just use a blue gun at home to practice safe removal and repetitive pointing.

Yeah, but instead of spending $1500 for a light 1911, I spent $600 on a Glock. And I'm gonna spend $600 on another soon. That still leaves $300 for cigars and ammo.

After I've bought the next Glock and an AR, then I'll think about the fancy 1911.

At least, that's what I say today.

I really like my Glocks....I love my SA1911....Kinda like having an anvil in yer pants but its like shaking hands with an old friend......
Feel the same about my 1943 Colt M1911, and I carried it for several years. But the Glock is so damned light.
They do make them a bit lighter than that now :)

I bought my Ruger SA1911 for 649.  I know its not a lightweight but I so like that weapon......

Once loved 1911's long ago but I just see them as a nice piece of nostalgia with a great history now.   I have an FNX for when I want a big heavy .45 with a hammer and it is one hell of a shoot'n machine.

Not to start a major debate but I am curious, what ammo do you guys use as your PD rounds in your 1911?
Hornady FTX 185 grain.

One of the best buys out there for a reliable 1911 .45.   I shot a 9mm Browning 1911 recently and while I am mostly not a big 9mm fan it was pretty neat.  That said I do carry a 9mm quite a bit for the size and recoil.

Hornady FTX 185 grain.
I have the Hornady CD as well as the Hydra Shok.....I like the notion of a 230 grain round....I have not done the math to figure out which imparts the most kinetic energy to the target but that may represent my anal engineer side coming into play where it really shouldn't....

Don't even have a loaded 1911 in the house anymore but I sometimes carry a Glock 30S and for anything .45  I buy Winchester Ranger T JHP.  For carry it is 185g and for my FNX it is 230g.

Nothing at all wrong with the Hornady FTX but my second choice is Speer Gold Dot which I mostly shoot with because Ranger T is hard to come by. Can also get comparable Speer in FJRN for the range which shoots pretty similar.

I don't care how old the design is, I love the ergonomics of the 1911 and I just naturally shoot very well with them with very little practice.

I've put 1500 rounds through the Glock and am just getting to where I can shoot it really well. The Glock is far more sensitive to flawed technique.

I wouldn't advise anyone to carry any gun without first putting 500 rounds through it, preferably with some coaching. But especially the Glock.

My opinion, YMMV, GFY, etc.

More important IMHO is the reduced recoil of the 185g in smaller guns.

In my case, the 1911 is a 72-year-old weapon. The gunsmith says it's in terrific shape, and safe and reliable, but I just didn't feel great about putting a lot of heavy ammo through it.

It's probably retired at this point. Gonna send it to Doug Turnbull and see about having it restored to 1943 trim. I'll get another 1911 down the road for carrying purposes.

Except for a very few grandfathered old farts even the TX Rangers quit allowing 1911's about 20 years ago.

More a function of cost and insurance than design, I think. Outfitting a law enforcement team with good 1911's is costly compared to Glocks, and difficult to insure people carrying their own weapons.

Austin City Cops can carry their own from the approved list or use issued M&P's but 1911's are not permitted.

Thanks Raz.  Enjoyed the video.  I'm one of the few and far between who own a Model 36 Glock.  Never got a warm and fuzzy feeling with the other Glock grips.  More natural in the hand for me and kinda favor the .45 ACP.  Go with the 185 grain Gold Dot.  Reload so I can shot anything I care to.  Put in a lighter recoil spring in the 1911 to shoot 185 g SWC.  The boys once old enough to understand and practice good firearms safety could shoot the 1911.  Colin even calls it "the gun I can hit things with" as in where's that gun I can hit things with.  This was his choice over a variety of .22's.

No word yet on the timing.  The available seats at the temporary location is around 400.  Our group has not been given a date.  I am expecting something to break loose towards the end of the year with a move date of sometime in the middle of 2016.  In the meantime, I get to sit and watch property values go up at roughly 10% per year....

That is a nice area is why it is expensive.  Property taxes are even higher here if that makes you feel any better.

No income tax and only about $75 a year to register a car which helps.

...Kinda like having an anvil in yer pants but its like shaking hands with an old friend......

TWHS!  C'mon, we couldn't continue letting that just dangle there.  ;)
All right dammit...so you opted to go with the "dangle" analogy after the anvil analogy, eh?....
Ya see what I did there?  Hiya, Duke.  Great to see you.  I just stopped by between games.  I have three more football games to attend.  My girls are cheerleading.
Hey Tony....Likewise....Firearms, beers, cigars.....gawd I am soooo glad I am a 'merican....
When you gonna be a Texan or is that still in the works.
You know what general, part of town it is in?
The property bumps against the south side of 121, right where Plano and Frisco come together.  I have been watching property in Prosper, McKinney and Celina...damn real estate prices are just freakin stupid....not to mention property tax around 2.5%
That is a nice area is why it is expensive.  Property taxes are even higher here if that makes you feel any better.

No doubt the area is nice.  The wife and I really like it.  It helps that when I retire, we can drive to Houston and catch a cruise ship with no air fare associated with the trip.  That said, having built a few homes as a general contractor, it is tough for me to wrap my head around a house built on a slab.  I understand the soil and substrate conditions that make that a requirement but I am still not too fond of that.  We will bite our lip and try to find something on about an acre that we can afford.  I will likely have to make some concessions with respect to my commute in order to find something that I can afford.  I may have to go to Farmersville to get what I am looking for at a price I can live with.  I have to have a man cave and a little yard.  That postage stamp yard crap in Plano just won't cut it.....

Believe me I feel pain but commute length can be a major thing there unless you can do what I do and commute ouside the heart of rush hour both ways.  I work 6:00 am to 3:15 pm

My work day is typically 6:30am till 6:00 or so pm.  I know that commute in the area can really be a bear.  My thoughts with respect to the commute are this:  by the time I move, I will be roughly 24 to 36 months from retirement.  I can deal with a crappy commute as long as I know that it is not forever, provided it gets me what I want.  I really have to have a man cave though.

Oh yeah if that is all you got left then much easier to deal with the commute to have a great retirement place.  I am down to hopefully 9-12 months.
