No snow here, but just came in from the cold and drizzly outside. Yuck.

I'm sure it will be. Never the less, the second one is dragging his feet. There's no way he's making the bus today.

Max was originally supposed to come with us to Providence yesterday and backed out at the last minute. So he wound up going to his soccer game after all (changed his RSVP to yes). They lost 1-2. Apparently our team scored an own goal to start the game. No bueno.

Even with me driving him all the way to school, he was almost late. I'm thinking of giving him a buzz cut because fussing with his hair is really the most time consuming part of his morning.

If I've mentioned this one before, I apologize. I have a unique plumbing issue and I'm not sure how to proceed.

The sink in the half bath downstairs is clogged. Or is it? A few weeks back, I noticed the water wasn't going down and I assumed it had something to do with the aforementioned fussing of the hair. However, I've since taken the elbow out and am able to see everything is completely clear. I ran a snake about 25 feet and it was also clear. The minute I put everything back together and run the water, the basin fills up. I let it sit for a couple of hours and the basin was still completely full. I took everything apart and snaked once again, but the exact same thing happened.

So here's what I think is going on: the vent pipe is clogged and the forces that should allow the drain water to flow through aren't strong enough to let the water get past the elbow. I believe the upstairs sink is connected to the same vent but because it's on the second floor, it seems to be working properly. I do notice that the drain upstairs smells, however.

Any thoughts? I'm not even sure who to call for this kind of thing.

What I'm thinking is that the vent clog sits somewhere in between. Therefore, the vent going out to the roof is clear from the 2nd floor and up. I don't know my ass from my elbow when it comes to plumbing, so I'm making this shit up.

Gravity.  Think you're right Tony.  Either the vent is blocked causing a vacuum or there is blockage further down the line.

I never heard of anyone having this kind of issue. Does a regular plumber handle stuff like this? Roto-rooter? I have a steep and high roof. Not looking forward to seeing what this will cost.

I thought the gravity/vacuum portion of the bathroom plumbing system only applied to the toilets.

With Trumpf and the Republicans seeming to set up the Dems for a banner takeover at midterm elections, lets see if the Dems can sabotage it by setting transgender protection and wind farms as their top policy issues.... ::)

Today is Monday, April 7, the 97th day of 2025
with 268 to follow.

The moon is waxing. Morning stars are Jupiter, Mars and Venus. Evening stars are Jupiter, Mars and Uranus.

On this date in history:

In 1862, Union forces under the command of Gen. Ulysses S. Grant defeated the Confederates at Shiloh, Tenn.

In 1922, under the direction Secretary of the Interior Albert Bacon Fall, petroleum reserves at Wyoming's Teapot Dome Oil Field were leased without competitive bidding to private companies. A Senate investigation ensued, leading to a bribery case that would become known as the Teapot Dome scandal.

In 1933, less than a month after President Franklin Roosevelt asked Congress to permit the manufacture and sale of beer, the Volstead Act was modified to allow for this request.

In 1947, auto pioneer Henry Ford died in Detroit at the age of 84. In 1896, he built his first self-propelled, gas-engine vehicle, and in 1903 incorporated the Ford Motor Company. He is credited for developing the first affordable, mass-produced car, the Model T, and pioneering the assembly line.

In 1990, arson fires aboard the ferry Scandinavian Star killed 159 people in Scandinavia's worst post-war maritime disaster.

In 2009, North Korean leader Kim Jong Il was re-elected to a third five-year term despite failing health since a reported stroke in August 2008. He died in 2011.

In 2011, a 23-year-old former student returned to his public elementary school in Rio de Janeiro and opened fire with two revolvers, killing 12 children and injuring 12 others before shooting himself in the head as police closed in.

In 2012, broadcast journalist Mike Wallace, the CBS 60 Minutes icon, died in New Canaan, Conn. He was 93.

In 2017, the United States fired 59 Tomahawk missiles into a west Syrian airfield from where it was believed President Bashar al-Assad's regime launched a deadly chemical attack that killed and injured hundreds of civilians.

In 2018, forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad launched a gas attack in the town of Douma, killing some 40 people.

In 2022, the Senate voted to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black woman to serve as justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.

True, but I didn't follow Henry's career through college and the pro's in real time.

I know you just quoted me, but Ford only lived to 84.

But not as old as Henry Ford was. :D

In 1947, auto pioneer Henry Ford died in Detroit at the age of 150. In 1896, he built his first self-propelled, gas-engine vehicle, and in 1903 incorporated the Ford Motor Company. He is credited for developing the first affordable, mass-produced car, the Model T, and pioneering the assembly line.
Corrected.

Lesson for simply passing on info without fact checking. (Or proofreading).  Wonder if he's still collecting social security?
Undoubtedly. 😂

True, but I didn't follow Henry's career through college and the pro's in real time.

I know you just quoted me, but Ford only lived to 84.

That's an odd one, and above my paygrade. Strange that the upstairs one is running ok while the downstairs one is clogged.
Yes, any plumbing service can snake a drain or vent.

Yeah, I finally did some googling and I'm pretty sure I'm right about this being a vent pipe issue. I appreciate all the input.

Every time I see or meet someone with the name Anne-Marie, I have a slight panic reaction.  There are three women in my past named Anne-Marie, and all of them were...trouble.  You'd think I'd have learned after the second, but noooo.  I just had to try the third.
Friend of mine did the same with Rhonda's....married one, dated one, still dating the third.

I don't believe I've ever actually met anyone named Rhonda.
I work with one now, I think she's the only one I've ever known. But she spells it Ronda.
Parents probably misspelled it at the hospital... :o

Tony, here's the response I eventually got:

That is a loaded text. It could be what he is suggesting, but I kind of doubt it. My initial thought was that it’s blocked further down the line, or the piece of pipe directly connected to the sink (pop up assembly) is clogged. Maybe ask him if he took that stopper out and looked directly down the drain. A lot of times this can be remedied by removing the stopper and making a hook on a clothes hanger and pulling out the hair.

Yeah, I'm sure that's the equivalent to, "did you reboot?"

I took the stopper out and I can see perfectly clear down to my hand below. The thing is, if the clog was down the line, the basin wouldn't immediately start filling when I reassembled everything after the stopper.

Anyhoo, I really appreciate the effort.

No worries, I tried. And yes, I was thinking of the IT analogy as well. 😆

When we left for grocery shopping around 315, it was sunny and about 50 degrees, not too bad. Currently, it's snowing.

Well played. I found myself too focused on 1 category and had 2 mistakes before I knew what happened. Always find it hard to come back from that.

1 extra, which was part of the spangram. And one of them took some serious guessing before finally landing on it.

I've got tons of extras so far. In fact, only found one actual puzzle word. I'll try again, after dinner. Penne with marinara and ricotta are almost ready.

It was tasty. Not bad, considering I didn't know what was on the menu about 15 minutes before that post.

Decent game so far.
Florida coming back for the win and Houston staying under 70.5 points cashed my parlay.  So I'm happy about the result. Lol
