Happy Tuesday! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars.  Join in and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!

Good morning, Dave. It sure is still dark out. Weren't the days supposed to be getting longer?

I was thinking the exact same thing as I was driving home from grocery shopping yesterday at like 5:15 and it was already dark out.

I'm trying to figure out whether it's because we just happen to be getting overcast days or if the sun is afraid of covid-19.

Have I done my bit about garbage collection? And I'm pretty sure we discussed the hell out of cheese. Any chance there are decent cigar deals out there? It's not likely we get half way to Page 18 again. May have to rely on traditional Tuesday GFYs.

There's a relatively solid deal at the monster for 601 Steel Rods, if that's your thing. $65 for a box, plus the coupon code.

Door #1 at the sis caught my eye, San Cristobal Elegancia Robusto, $49.99/10, FS.  Though I'm not a San Cris whore, that's about as good a price as you'll find.

Don't think I've tried the Steel Rod. Wouldn't jump right into a box. I'm assuming you mean code  CATSRULE. Does that still work?

Today is Tuesday, Jan. 5, the fifth day of 2021.
There are 360 days left in the year.

Today’s Highlight in History:
On Jan. 5, 1925, Democrat Nellie Tayloe Ross of Wyoming took office as America’s first female governor, succeeding her late husband, William, following a special election.

On this date:
In 1589, Catherine de Medici (MEHD’-uh-chee) of France died at age 69.
In 1781, a British naval expedition led by Benedict Arnold burned Richmond, Virginia.
In 1896, an Austrian newspaper, Wiener Presse, reported the discovery by German physicist Wilhelm Roentgen (RENT’-gun) of a type of radiation that came to be known as X-rays.

In 1914, auto industrialist Henry Ford announced he was going to pay workers $5 for an 8-hour day, as opposed to $2.34 for a 9-hour day. (Employees still worked six days a week; the 5-day work week was instituted in 1926.)
In 1943, educator and scientist George Washington Carver, who was born into slavery, died in Tuskegee, Alabama, at about age 80.
In 1949, in his State of the Union address, President Harry S. Truman labeled his administration the Fair Deal.

In 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposed assistance to countries to help them resist Communist aggression in what became known as the Eisenhower Doctrine.
In 1972, President Richard Nixon announced that he had ordered development of the space shuttle.
In 1975, “The Wiz,” a musical version of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” featuring an all-Black cast, opened on Broadway.

In 1983, President Ronald Reagan announced he was nominating Elizabeth Dole to succeed Drew Lewis as secretary of transportation; Dole became the first woman to head a Cabinet department in Reagan’s administration, and the first to head the DOT.
In 1998, Sonny Bono, the 1960s pop star-turned-politician, was killed when he struck a tree while skiing at the Heavenly Ski Resort on the Nevada-California state line; he was 62.
In 2004, foreigners arriving at U.S. airports were photographed and had their fingerprints scanned in the start of a government effort to keep terrorists out of the country.

Ten years ago: John Boehner was elected speaker as Republicans regained control of the House of Representatives on the first day of the new Congress. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced he was stepping down. Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Five years ago: With tears streaking his cheeks, President Barack Obama launched a final-year push to tighten sales of firearms in the U.S., using his presidential powers in the absence of tougher gun restrictions that Congress refused to pass, coming out with plans for expanded background checks and other modest measures. French composer and conductor Pierre Boulez, 90, died in Baden-Baden, Germany.

One year ago: President Donald Trump reiterated his view that cultural sites in Iran could be targeted if Iran were to retaliate for the drone strike that killed Iran’s top general; there were concerns even within his administration that doing so could constitute a war crime under international law. Amid heightened tensions over the killing of an Iranian general, Iran said it would no longer abide by the limits contained in the 2015 nuclear deal. The World War I tale “1917” captured the Golden Globe for best dramatic film, while “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” won for best comedy or musical; in television categories, real-life stories captured top honors, including Olivia Colman’s portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II and Michelle Williams’ performance as Broadway star Gwen Verdon.

Morning, muchachos.
Good morning, Bret?
A little too...never mind.  Morning, Tony.
Fixed it for you. Now go ahead and get it all off your chest.
I was born a poor black child...
Is that the beginning to Steve Martin's, The Jerk?
Very good Tony.  Did you actually see it?
I saw it a couple of times but way way long ago. Don't remember it much. May need to revisit it soon. Wonder if it holds up.

Only GA should be backed up with fake ballots at this point, but maybe Atlanta is a hub. :D

But I still have a card from my sister coming for my youngest that has part of her Xmas present in it. Hopefully, she gets it before her birthday next month.

I assume this will only be relevant to a select few BotL in the New York area but it appears Cellino and Barnes broke up. I heard the ad on the radio the other day and it sounded very strange. I'm assuming that's because one got the phone number and the other got the jingle in the settlement.

I had forgotten about all the ambulance chasers as NJ has no fault insurance...but coming down here, that is half of the commercials on the news in the evenings....call all 2's, all4's or all 9's but a bunch of others.  They must have a special competition for who has the corniest commercials as well.

I really had no idea. When I looked them up it turns out they had split up years ago. And yes, it looks like they started in the Buffalo area. According to an article I read, the ad has not played in months. So why the heck is that jingle still stuck in my head?

Not that it wasn't well deserved.
Despite standing a slight 6-foot-1 and weighing 175 pounds, Smith became the best wide receiver and the most accomplished player in college football. He leads the FBS in receptions (105), receiving yards (1,641) and receiving touchdowns (20). He's dropped only two passes all season long.

Smith has excelled in postseason play, finding the end zone twice against Florida in the SEC championship game and three more times against Notre Dame during the CFP semifinal at The Rose Bowl Game Presented by Capital One.

That sounds pretty good to me too. I wonder if I have any tonic. It's been a long day. I may take the easy route and pour two fingers of bourbon instead.
