Today is Wednesday, Oct. 18, the 291st day of 2017. There are 74 days left in the year.

Today’s Highlight in History:

On Oct. 18, 1767, the Mason-Dixon line, the boundary between colonial Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware, was set as astronomers Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon completed their survey.

In 1685, King Louis XIV signed the Edict of Fontainebleau, revoking the Edict of Nantes that had established legal toleration of France’s Protestant population, the Huguenots.

In 1867, the United States took formal possession of Alaska from Russia. The cornerstone was laid for Baltimore City Hall.

In 1892, the first long-distance telephone line between New York and Chicago was officially opened (it could only handle one call at a time).

In 1922, the British Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (later the British Broadcasting Corp.) was founded.

In 1931, inventor Thomas Alva Edison died in West Orange, New Jersey, at age 84.

In 1944, Soviet troops invaded Czechoslovakia during World War II.

In 1954, Texas Instruments unveiled the Regency TR-1, the first commercially produced transistor radio.

In 1967, the first issue of Rolling Stone magazine (which carried a cover date of Nov. 9) was published.

In 1969, the federal government banned artificial sweeteners known as cyclamates (SY’-kluh-maytz) because of evidence they caused cancer in laboratory rats.

In 1977, West German commandos stormed a hijacked Lufthansa jetliner on the ground in Mogadishu, Somalia, freeing all 86 hostages and killing three of the four hijackers.

In 1982, former first lady Bess Truman died at her home in Independence, Missouri, at age 97.

In 1997, a monument honoring American servicewomen, past and present, was dedicated at Arlington National Cemetery.

Ten years ago: Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto returned to Pakistan, ending eight years of self-imposed exile; a suicide bombing in a crowd welcoming her killed more than 140 people, but Bhutto escaped unhurt. (However, she was slain in Dec. 2007.) Former Joint Chiefs chairman William Crowe (krow) died in Bethesda, Maryland, at age 82.

Five years ago: In a case that would reach the U.S. Supreme Court, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York ruled that a federal law defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman was unconstitutional and said the gay population had “suffered a history of discrimination.” The Detroit Tigers completed a four-game sweep of the New York Yankees, winning the finale of the American League Championship Series 8-1. The St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Francisco Giants 8-3 to take a 3-1 lead in the National League Championship Series.

One year ago: President Barack Obama hosted his final state dinner as he welcomed Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini, to the White House. The Toronto Blue Jays staved off elimination in the American League Championship Series, beating the Cleveland Indians 5-1 in Game 4. In the National League contest, the Los Angeles Dodgers took a 2-1 series lead by defeating the Chicago Cubs 6-0.

Family Used to go up to Lake Ouachita when I was a kiddo and Later when I was in high school and on up in my late 20's went up there diving quite a few times.  Always stayed at Mountain Harbor except when real young and it was poor folks camping near there.

And I am sure you will stop by McClard's BBQ in Hot Springs.

Pick up cabinets at Lowes then deliver to contractor and get him going, also pay day for him, actually Monday was but he did not show up Monday or Tuesday, "dentist" visits.  Last Monday his car got vandalized and he had to wait all day for the police to come make a report..........

Morning SchoolboyMayor, did you get bullied at school last night?
I did hear a rumor that somebody took his donut money.
Youngsters taking advantage of an old man I guess. Sad, really sad!
There's a law against that in Florida.
There are just no youngsters...

People that don't go fishing just don't know what they are missing!

The best and biggest catches from the South Texas Fishing Association
Fish aren't too shabby, either.
There's something ironic about how they're holding them.

Good morning, Mark.

Looking forward to this for some weekend activity, Georgetown is about 30 minutes south and where I keep my boat.

The Georgetown Wooden Boat Show – always held on the third weekend in October – features one of the Southeast’s best wooden boat exhibits with more than 140 classic wooden boats displayed on land and water.

https://woodenboatshow.com
keep an eye out for Moorehouse Boats.

http://www.berkshiretv.com/morehouse.htm
Will look for some of them.
You were originally considering a wooden boat, weren't you?

Busy day today then hopefully 4 days off.

Pick up cabinets at Lowes then deliver to contractor and get him going, also pay day for him, actually Monday was but he did not show up Monday or Tuesday, "dentist" visits.  Last Monday his car got vandalized and he had to wait all day for the police to come make a report..........

Haircut at 1:30

Template the granite this afternoon at 3:00 which takes some time and will probably cut into my cigar time.
All those excuses are right out of the home improvement contractor handbook.  He had better things to do than deal with your old grouchy ass.
And that typical low performer statement earns you a big GFY

Morning Daves, Fish, and TaxPayinMayor.  Last day before I start a mini-vaca, riding to Arkansas Quachita Mountain area for a long weekend.
Morning Bean, gonna dig for some diamonds up there?

Family Used to go up to Lake Ouachita when I was a kiddo and Later when I was in high school and on up in my late 20's went up there diving quite a few times.  Always stayed at Mountain Harbor except when real young and it was poor folks camping near there.

And I am sure you will stop by McClard's BBQ in Hot Springs.
Passing through the diamond park but staying on the lake at an old school fishing resort.  Hardly up to Fish standards but fine for three motorcyclists covered in bugs and road grime.  http://www.shangrilaresortar.net/ (http://www.shangrilaresortar.net/)

And yes on McClards!  http://www.mcclards.com/index.htm (http://www.mcclards.com/index.htm)
You going to fly up and rent a bike?
Used to be some fine restaurants in Little Rock and Hot Springs when I used to go out there.  For that reason, it was one of my preferred trips and nobody believed that.....which was just fine.
No, we're riding up from here.  It's about 450 miles, so one day to get there, ride around the area Fri-Sat.  They head back on Sunday, I'm sticking around to visit family and heading back on Monday.
Don't know that I would feel that much like riding around on the weekend after 450 miles.

It's all about the proper gear and ergonomics of the bike.  The bike as stock, no way. But with after market seat, bar risers, grips, and windshield, not a big deal.  That is about my limit for a day, though.

Abuelo's mexican food for lunch, got a bogo coupon in the mail this so perfect
So how does SCMex compare to TexMex?
There is no comparison

But Abuelo's is a chain and has a place in Austin.  It is not bad at all but the local places here are not sure good.

Damndest thing here is there is NO decent local Chinese places.  All are terrible takeee-outeee places
you are in South Carolina...  what did you expect.   you need a thriving chinatown, chinese
community, for you to get good chinese fresh produce(baby corn, bok choy, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots,
straw mushrooms).  the midwest, and southern atlantic coast have the chinese equivalent of Dominoes, & Pizza Hut.
but I am betting, you got some places that can make some interesting road kill burgoo...

Well, normally I'd leave triggerwork to a gunsmith. But let me consult with MacGuyver (my friend Dan) and see what he thinks. Will see him at 6:30 PDT and will get back to you a little after that or in the morning.

It's an S&W clone, and he's expert on S&W.

There should be a hammer tension adjustment described in your manual for the gun. That's a good part of the battle, right there.

It's an S&W clone, and he's expert on S&W.
I know I've read a lot on trigger pull tension in articles, pounds of pull, something like that.
There should be a hammer tension adjustment described in your manual for the gun. That's a good part of the battle, right there.
Manual just shows parts.
Looking at the videos I'd feel more comfortable taking it to the local gun shop. they talk about swapping out the hammer spring with a Wolfe 6# spring.
That's always the safest bet. Trigger work is a real art. Best to get an artist.

where's RazMan? I need advice on whether I can change spring tension on a Taurus .38 trigger or should I take it to a gunsmith. trigger pull is to hard for lady.
Sorry, was working. What model of Taurus?
.38 Special Ultra-Lite,
Have you done gunsmithing before?
no. nothing other than cleaning.

Has anyone here seen the new Blade Runner movie?
Is it animated? Haven't even seen the old one.
Sheesh...it's only 30 years old.
Far older and better movies that I haven't seen.
And you know those other movies you haven't seen are better than this one you haven't seen how?
Never saw One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Jaws, Saving Private Ryan, Casablanca, Apocalypse Now, to name just a few. Shall I go on?
Watch One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and you'll see what happened to me at 16 back in 1968.
You're Jack Nicholson?
I was treated like him back then. now you know what's wrong with me.
That's just the first chapter.

Da Corona Club
nice joint, and they let you have the remote besides.
most of the time I’m the only one there in the afternoon. It’s a must in the winter, Happy we finally have a Club in town.
I wish there was a place close by I could smoke in and enjoy a coffee or water.
Isn't that called your garage?

No, that's enough to verify that you're culturally illiterate.
Agreed.

He's too busy keeping up with the cooking shows.  With Christmas coming I'd better swing by Magnolia Market in Waco and pick up gifts for you and the Mayor.  $75 sweatshirt for you, $75 apron for the Mayor.
