I can pour coffee with my right hand, so yes, I guess that's better. Got the lady's push mower so I may have a rough afternoon. Gotta mow once the sun comes out and dries everything out.

Today is Friday, July 7, the 188th day of 2017. There are 177 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On July 7, 1865, four people were hanged in Washington, D.C. for conspiring with John Wilkes Booth to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln: Lewis Powell (aka Lewis Payne), David Herold, George Atzerodt and Mary Surratt, the first woman to be executed by the federal government.

On this date:

In 1846, U.S. annexation of California was proclaimed at Monterey (mahn-tuh-RAY') after the surrender of a Mexican garrison.

In 1898, the United States annexed Hawaii.

In 1919, the first Transcontinental Motor Convoy, in which a U.S. Army convoy of motorized vehicles crossed the United States, departed Washington, D.C. (The trip ended in San Francisco on Sept. 6, 1919.)

In 1937, the Second Sino-Japanese War erupted into full-scale conflict as Imperial Japanese forces attacked the Marco Polo Bridge in Beijing.

In 1946, Italian-born Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini was canonized as the first American saint by Pope Pius XII. Jimmy Carter, 21, married Rosalynn (ROH'-zuh-lihn) Smith, 18, in Plains, Georgia.

In 1948, six female U.S. Navy reservists became the first women to be sworn in to the regular Navy.

In 1954, Elvis Presley made his radio debut as Memphis, Tennessee, station WHBQ played his first recording for Sun Records, "That's All Right."

In 1969, Canada's House of Commons gave final approval to the Official Languages Act, making French equal to English throughout the national government.

In 1976, President and Mrs. Gerald R. Ford hosted a White House dinner for Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. The United States Military Academy at West Point included female cadets for the first time as 119 women joined the Class of 1980.

In 1981, President Ronald Reagan announced he was nominating Arizona Judge Sandra Day O'Connor to become the first female justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.

In 1987, Lt. Col. Oliver North began his long-awaited public testimony at the Iran-Contra hearing, telling Congress that he had "never carried out a single act, not one," without authorization.

In 1990, the first "Three Tenors" concert took place as opera stars Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras performed amid the brick ruins of Rome's Baths of Caracalla on the eve of the World Cup championship.

Ten years ago: A truck bomb devastated the public market in Armili, Iraq, killing at least 115 people. A 24-hour music marathon spanning seven continents reached the Western Hemisphere with rappers, rockers and country stars taking the stage at Live Earth concerts to fight climate change. Venus Williams claimed her fourth Wimbledon title with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Marion Bartoli.

Five years ago: Jubilant Libyans chose a new parliament in their first nationwide vote in decades. The Obama administration declared Afghanistan the United States' newest "major non-NATO ally." Serena Williams beat Agnieszka Radwanska (ahg-nee-ESH'-kuh rahd-VAHN'-skuh) of Poland 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 to win a fifth Wimbledon singles championship; about five hours later, she and sister Venus were back on Centre Court to beat Czech duo Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka 7-5, 6-4 in the doubles final; it was the Williamses' fifth Wimbledon doubles title together. U.S. Rep. Barney Frank tied the knot with his longtime partner, Jim Ready, in a ceremony officiated by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.

One year ago: Micah Johnson, a black Army veteran who served in Afghanistan, opened fire on Dallas police, killing five officers in an act of vengeance for the fatal police shootings of black men; the attack ended with Johnson being blown up by a bomb delivered by a police robot. President Barack Obama embarked on a five-day, two-country mission to buck up a beleaguered Europe and brush back an aggressive Moscow; after arriving in Warsaw, Poland, Obama denounced the fatal attack in Dallas as "despicable" and declared there was no justification for the violence.

Got our tix in the mail yesterday, taking the wife to see Phantom in NYC next month for her 40th.

Also got word that her car will be fixed instead of totaled after her accident a week ago, so that was a bit of good news. Though, the ticket she got for the accident is $270. Fuggin' crooks.

Edit: apparently it's Broadway's Longest Running Show! Haven't seen it since I was in high school.

Yeah, but that's expected, and well deserved. But $270 for a ticket, $121 of which is for court costs, even though she doesn't have to go to court? That's just extortion.

Actually saw it here one year ago today, oddly enough. It's her favorite, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so her 40th gave us an excuse to get out of town for a couple days.
You should broaden her horizons....I think there are one or two other good shows currently running.... ???
As long as it's not that Hamilton show.  Commies!

Phantom is still on Broadway?
I was about to ask the same. Make sure it's a legit ticket, LTG.

LALTS. That show is coming here next year. I think the current price for tickets is $550. Only the 1% will be seeing that one!

Let me know if you need restaurant recommendations or anything else.
Definitely, thanks. I know we'll be doing Bubba Gump's at some point. It's her favorite movie, and it was pretty good when we were there 7 years ago on our first trip there.
Never been there. I'll let you try it again and if it's still good, I'll put it on my short list. 😉

Good morning fellas, actually headed to Broadway myself tomorrow. Wife's Birthday this Sunday and she wanted to see School of Rock with the kids, go figure. They don't know yet, third baseball game in a row tonight before the weekend off
Sounds like fun. The kids are jealous that they don't get to see Phantom. After we saw the show last year, we got a London performance on DVD cause they wanted to watch it, and they really liked it. But it'll be a few more years before I drag them around NYC. Lol
Wait long enough and they'll drag you.

Saw it in Toronto many years ago.  Great show.  The wife saw The Lion King on Broadway last fall with my son and his girlfriend, said that was a helluva show, too.
I believe Toronto is where the wife saw it for the first time, way back in the day. And my dad and sister were in NYC last month and saw Wicked. According to my mom, he hasn't stopped talking about it since.

I would have to agree that I preferred Wicked. However, all the shows mentioned are great in their own way. Haven't been to see anything in a while.

In fact, if I turn my head 180 degrees from side to side, I can see 6 different likenesses of Flo. A picture hanging my from my manager's door, a different picture someone has hanging by their desk, 3 separate Flo potato head dolls, and a lifesize cardboard standee.

Funny you should ask. If I turn all the way around, I can see my coach's desk, and she has a "Sprinkles are for Winners" sign they passed around after the Cavs won the championship last year. In the Cavs wine and gold colors, of course.

yes, but I don't have one yet. I found that if I spray enough RoundUp along the fence line, out buildings, and plants/trees I can get by with the mower.

Isn't that what a weed whacker is for?
You know Dean, and you're assuming he's trimming grass?
No I'm not... :P

We've one guy buddying up to Putin, patting him on the back, thanking him for the election tin of salted nuts he sent him. Then we've got this guy. These 2 are giving Bush/Quayle a run for the stupidity money.

who says 'bigger is better'? the 'big guy' was difficult getting started and died after a few short passes. the 'little guy' started right up and was slow and steady. although the 'little guy' needed to stop to refuel a couple of times, he was always able to restart and managed to complete the task to satifaction.
That little guy is looking a bit old and worn...
Speaking of old and worn, how you feeling?
I'm feeling fine....oh wait, which old and worn did you mean, we have more than a few here.
Well, you answered didn't you.  Approaching a milestone?  [At least a minor milestone before a major one...]
Something like that, yeah.

Prius lull?
Lunch hour gone wrong lull. Went for sushi, and the place suddenly turned into a madhouse. Took us a half hour just to complete payment so we could leave. Sheesh.
Remind yourself it IS Friday!
Indeed. And 5:00 can't arrive quickly enough.
After 5 here, so there's that.

The boss left for the day. That makes it a little more bearable at work.

Cigar lit. Ash fell off right before I took the photo. It was only about a half inch long. Byron Siglo XXI Distinguido (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170707/70d5a0c59c3e69326fc671ed05746ca0.jpg)

This cigar was gifted to me but I'm not impressed. The burn is pretty sloppy. Lots of vegetal flavors. I'm tasting apples on the finish. The retrohale is a bit harsh. Don't get me wrong, the flavors are decent but for what these cost, it's a pass for me.

Funny thing is that it comes in a self humidified tube. It seemed prefect, not too hard or soft.

Yeah, WTF, you have created a disturbance in the force.   Get back on your assigned shift before this mutha goes completely off the rails.
