Any deals on the various internet sites that are worth talking about?  Join in this discussion and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either...  And welcome aboard!

Evening / morning, all. Oliva CR pc burning. These are coming along nicely.  They were very "crackly" when they arrived. Now they are well acclimated; not too moist, not too dry, just nice and flavorful with a tight white "ash" (just the way I like em ;) ). Good smoke.

Tony, re: your question yesterday re: multiple threads. That seems to work for other forums of which I have membership. For the sake of broadening the community,  that would probably help. I like the daily forum as it is now; it's easy to keep track of and the discussion is more "daily" centered, whether it be deals or our personal endeavors. Topical threads are useful, for example, on motorcycle forums where some folks want to talk tours and others repairs, for example. Not sure that model would carry over here as well.

I guess what I'm saying is that, given the size of our communty, the daily topic works well. Whether or not it would be beneficial to have multiple threads for the sake of a broader discussion is a question I for which I can't be sure of the answer. It's possible it would be, but, on the other hand, the nature of cigar smoking is more "hanging out and shooting the shit." Our current format seems to be serving the latter.

Today is Thursday, Feb. 16, the 47th day of 2017. There are 318 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Feb. 16, 1862, the Civil War Battle of Fort Donelson in Tennessee ended as some 12,000 Confederate soldiers surrendered; Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's victory earned him the moniker "Unconditional Surrender Grant."

On this date:

In 1804, Lt. Stephen Decatur led a successful raid into Tripoli Harbor to burn the U.S. Navy frigate Philadelphia, which had fallen into the hands of pirates during the First Barbary War.

In 1868, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was organized in New York City.

In 1923, the burial chamber of King Tutankhamen's recently unearthed tomb was unsealed in Egypt by English archaeologist Howard Carter.

In 1937, Du Pont research chemist Dr. Wallace H. Carothers, inventor of nylon, received a patent for the synthetic fiber, described as "linear condensation polymers."

In 1945, American troops landed on the island of Corregidor in the Philippines during World War II.

In 1959, Fidel Castro became premier of Cuba a month and a-half after the overthrow of Fulgencio Batista.

In 1961, the United States launched the Explorer 9 satellite.

In 1968, the nation's first 911 emergency telephone system was inaugurated in Haleyville, Alabama.

In 1977, Janani Luwum, the Anglican archbishop of Uganda, died in what Ugandan authorities said was an automobile accident, although it's generally believed that he was shot to death by agents of Idi Amin (EE'-dee ah-MEEN').

In 1987, John Demjanjuk (dem-YAHN'-yuk) went on trial in Jerusalem, accused of being "Ivan the Terrible," a guard at the Treblinka Nazi concentration camp. (Demjanjuk was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity, but the conviction ended up being overturned by the Israeli Supreme Court.)

In 1996, 11 people were killed in a fiery collision between an Amtrak passenger train and a Maryland commuter train in Silver Spring, Maryland. Former California Governor Edmund G. "Pat" Brown died in Beverly Hills, California, at age 90.

In 1998, a China Airlines Airbus A300-600R trying to land in fog near Taipei, Taiwan, crashed, killing all 196 people on board, plus six on the ground.

Ten years ago: The Democratic-controlled House issued a symbolic rejection of President George W. Bush's decision to deploy more troops to Iraq, approving the nonbinding resolution by a vote of 246-182. An Italian judge indicted 25 suspected CIA agents and a U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel in the kidnapping of an Egyptian terror suspect, Osama Moustafa Hassan Nasr, who was taken from Italy to Egypt, where he was allegedly tortured. (The Americans were later convicted in absentia.)

Five years ago: A federal judge in Detroit ordered life in prison for "underwear bomber" Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (OO'-mahr fah-ROOK' ahb-DOOL'-moo-TAH'-lahb), a Nigerian who had tried to blow up a packed Northwest jetliner. New York Times correspondent Anthony Shadid, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, died of an apparent asthma attack in Syria while reporting on the uprising against its president; he was 43. Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter died in West Palm Beach, Florida, at age 57.

One year ago: Former U.N. Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali (BOO'-trohs BOO'-trohs KHAL'-ee), 93, died in Cairo. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's courtroom chair was draped in black to mark his death, a tradition dating to the 19th century. The Czech Museum of Music presented a cantata, "A Salute to the Recuperating Ophelia," a rare piece of music written in three parts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Salieri and an unknown composer, Cornetti, that was considered lost for more than 200 years. CJ the German shorthaired pointer won best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club.

One for the good (old) guys!

Finally, a stunning victory for the pro-gun community, the first bill to repeal an Obama anti-gun measure is now headed to President Trump's desk.

Earlier today, the Senate voted to overturn Barack Obama's Social Security Gun Ban.

[The vote in the Senate was 57-43, with all Republicans voting for the repeal. They were joined by only four Democrats and one Independent. The earlier House vote was 235-180.]

The resolution, House Joint Resolution 40, now goes to the president's desk, where Donald Trump is expected to eagerly sign it.

This action is expected to be the first of a series of pro-gun actions to be taken by Congress and the Trump administration.

The Social Security Gun Ban was pushed by Barack Obama beginning on January 4, 2016.

It was a flailing PR stunt following a terrorist shooting in which an ISIS Islamic militant shot up a gun-free community center in the gun-hating state of California.

Somehow Obama thought he could convince the country that nationalizing California's failed laws would prevent more of the same.

Under the soon-to-be-repealed Social Security Gun Ban, garden-variety bureaucrats could look through applications for benefits and summarily impose gun bans on law-abiding Americans, even though they had no training in medicine and no contact with the applicant.

Conditions as benign as "anxiety" could be used to strip Americans of their constitutional rights with no due process whatsoever. People receiving benefit payments through a guardian would also lose their guns.

Probably limiting to keep more visibility. That way bids go higher... more than the regular CI prices in some cases.

Rocky Patel Cigars at My Father prices on the Page today. ::)
So there's nothing out there threatening my checking account today?
Decade is a decent smoke, but holy cow they're overpriced along with everything else with the possible exception of the $10 lighters.  Pass.
Same with the 1992, good  smoke at about $3-3.25 but not at those prices.

Agree. Not a $6 stick when better options/deals can be had at that price point.

I've smoked my fair share of RPs. Was a big fan of the Vintage '92 and still have a couple from 8+ years ago. But I ain't payin' a premium for 'em. The Decade has been inconsistent for me.

I feel that way about the Oliva V.  Those recent box price deals have been tempting, but the draw is so dang inconsistent.   I just can't deal with them when they are too tight (TWHS).

Afternoon, Blu. Just counting the minutes until the whistle sounds.

Never had that Sheffield. I've see it on cBid a couple times. Just never seemed to make a high enough bid for the price they were going... which is fine, since the interest level wasn't that high.

Not on my short list as some might say.  ;)

good morning Tony. how's the car this morning?
My car is just fine. Do you know something I don't?

Good morning, Deano.
wasn't it you that had car trouble the other day, or someone else here?
I think that was Flip. I know, all us Jersey folks look alike. My old beast is still kicking.

He needed a new battery, I believe. Cold temps usually kill them if they are older.

yep, my battery runs down too when it gets cold and I usually need a jump.
No shortage of jump starters for the Deanster, though!
But moving all that way out in the suburbs, may not be getting as many surprise morning visits.

I think in fear of the FDA Armageddon. A lot of internet sites are selling off their house brands and other not so popular line extensions. Do they see the writing on the wall?
Great question. With regard to tobacco, we're living in uncertain times for sure.
Nothing uncertain here.  CarolinaDave and I have our stash that will see us through the worst of times.

My pipe friends are loading up on their favorite tins. I really hope the law suits filed will find this unconstitutional because in all honestly it is. For heaven's sake where are our rights? Millions of people will be effected. Consenting f'n adults.
Politicians think they can rape us with "sin" taxes as they have the bleeding heart liberals thinking a mother state is what's needed.

Felix Assouline Cigars

EGO is a full flavored line of cigars. The careful blending of tobaccos from Jamastran, Jalapa and Indonesia are brought together to create a full flavor cigar that is further enhanced by “pressing” the Tobaccos together and aging them carefully before boxing them and shipping them to their eventual home, your humidor. EGO cigars range from a Perfect perfecto shape of 52 x 5 to the powerful Passion torpedo of 6 ½ x 58. EGO cigars also features a cedar lined box of 100 EGO Shots; a cigarillo of 24 x 5 when you don’t have the time or when you simply have the need for a Shot of EGO.
