Per information provided by a close family friend of his I learned more about the young man (26 years old) below us that passed away yesterday following a car wreck Friday.
He was headed down a 60 mph 4 lane divided highway when a car pulled out in front of him from a side road. He swerved and actually missed that car but another vehicle in the other lane clipped the corner of his truck spinning him around at which time the truck began rolling, the vehicle rolled over 7 times ejecting him out onto the highway. During that period his vehicle traveled over 100 yards down the highway. No, he was not wearing a seatbelt.
He died from traumatic brain damage, his brain was not functioning when he arrived at the hospital and they kept him on life support for 48 hours before determining there was no hope of any recovery.
Nicholas Newbern was a very nice young man and a dedicated father that worked hard at his profession as a Metal Fabricator.
RIP Nicholas

Isn’t it hard to believe, can never say for sure but based on the truck damage he would likely have suffered only minor to moderate injuries.

In a world where people think the Earth is flat, that vaccines cause autism and that climate change is #fakenews, it's not hard to believe at all, unfortunately. Hard to see someone die so young from something that was likely so preventable.

Today is Monday, July 22, the 203rd day of 2019. There are 162 days left in the year.
Today's Highlight in History:
On July 22, 1991, police in Milwaukee arrested Jeffrey Dahmer, who later confessed to murdering 17 men and boys (Dahmer ended up being beaten to death by a fellow prison inmate).
On this date:
In 1587, an English colony fated to vanish under mysterious circumstances was established on Roanoke Island off North Carolina.
In 1862, President Abraham Lincoln presented to his Cabinet a preliminary draft of the Emancipation Proclamation.
In 1934, bank robber John Dillinger was shot to death by federal agents outside Chicago's Biograph Theater, where he had just seen the Clark Gable movie "Manhattan Melodrama."
In 1937, the U.S. Senate rejected President Franklin D. Roosevelt's proposal to add more justices to the Supreme Court.
In 1942, the Nazis began transporting Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto to the Treblinka concentration camp. Gasoline rationing involving the use of coupons began along the Atlantic seaboard.
In 1943, American forces led by Gen. George S. Patton captured Palermo, Sicily, during World War II.
In 1946, the militant Zionist group Irgun blew up a wing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, killing 91 people.
In 1975, the House of Representatives joined the Senate in voting to restore the American citizenship of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.
In 1992, Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar escaped from his luxury prison near Medellin (meh-deh-YEEN'). (He was slain by security forces in December 1993.)
In 2005, a labor agreement ended an NHL lockout that canceled the previous hockey season.
In 2008, actress Estelle Getty died in Los Angeles at age 84.
In 2011, Anders Breivik (AHN'-durs BRAY'-vihk), a self-described "militant nationalist," massacred 69 people at a Norwegian island youth retreat after detonating a bomb in nearby Oslo that killed eight others in the nation's worst violence since World War II.

Ten years ago: President Barack Obama told a prime-time press conference that Cambridge, Massachusetts, police had acted "stupidly" in the arrest of prominent black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr., and that despite racial progress, blacks and Hispanics were still singled out unfairly for arrest. Earlier, the president met at the White House with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Millions of Asians witnessed the longest solar eclipse of this century; in some areas, totality lasted as long as six minutes and 39 seconds.
Five years ago: A Hamas rocket exploded near Israel's main airport, prompting a ban on flights from the U.S. and many from Europe and Canada. Johann Breyer, an 89-year-old Nazi war crimes suspect, died at a Philadelphia hospital hours before a U.S. ruling that he should be extradited to Germany to face trial.
One year ago: A man walking along a Toronto street fired a handgun into restaurants and cafes, killing two people and wounding 13 others; authorities said Faisal Hussain, described as an emotionally disturbed loner, fatally shot himself after the rampage. The 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank in a Missouri lake three days earlier were remembered at a service attended by hundreds in the tourism community of Branson. For the first time in nine years, Tiger Woods took the lead in the final round of a major golf tournament before finishing in a tie for sixth at the British Open; the event was won by Francesco Molinari in the first-ever major golf championship for an Italian.

Well, I also do generally like eggplant but this mess was a disaster. The eggplant was thin sliced to take the place of noodles so the lasagna had no noodles and no meat. Putting it nicely It looked like a plate of regurgitated 🤮🤮🤮 chunky tomato and ricotta sauce.

Wealthy New Yorkers are ditching city’s high taxes for Miami - oh wait a minute, this has no relevance to Golf.

CLE Plus Lit, dang this is almost a 4 year old cigar and one of my newer purchases 😂
The good ole days, I was buying these at the Famous Bid Site for $15-18 per 5 pack back then.

@ Tony, just curious- do you have to pay NY income taxes since you actually earn your money there?

I just learned one of my colleagues is into cigars. Looks like I have some corrupting to do... He went down to the local vape shop and bought 2x $20 Montecristos.
I thought I had a cigar friend here in my building but he smokes machine made turds. His wife had a retirement party at their condo a couple of months ago and I gave him over a $100 worth of fine smokes (probably $250 worth at a B&M) and he has never thanked me or even so much mentioned enjoying one of them. 👎
-

I do. I also have to pay in NJ because my company is registered there.

Something similar happened with my neighbor. He smokes about 10 cigars per day but only J&R branded cheapos. I've shared good stuff with him and he's never commented on it. I figure, why bother?

Exactly the same here, guy smokes quite a few 7-11 store type cigars everyday and I too told myself Why Bother!

It's starting to pour here but only supposed to last 30 minutes. Let's see what happens.
Mostly sunny and hot here but there is a nice breeze helping out. Thunderstorms later tonight maybe.

It came down like an MFer for a while but I'm seeing the sun peek through the clouds now.

That really sucks. Give us his address we'll take care of him

No I had my 2 cups of Pike's place lol but honestly when you smoke a couple cigars a day you have to start mild and work up the ladder or your last cigar of the day won't taste as intended

The la Vencedora is a great mid morning or afternoon smoke. Almost burned through a box my week off lol

Afternoon, muchachos. Doc says I can forego the splint, but I require several weeks of physical therapy.

I probably would consider it but Wifey would never leave her family behind.

I know how this is. And it isn't even her family. Sheesh.

I'm ready to move... Do I have to bring the family with me?

It would be tough for me. I have too many footprints where I live but hey you never know what the future holds.
