CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Clemson University officials said the parties responsible for defacing a banner highlighting the university's history have admitted their involvement.

The banner marked the location of Fort Hill, an area where a slave encampment once stood.

Almeda Jacks, Vice President of Student Affairs, said Tuesday that the parties involved came forward after President James Clements sent an email about the incident on Monday.

"The university is addressing the matter through its standard procedures," Jacks said.

FOX Carolina began investigating after a student shared a photo of the banner on Monday.

"Obviously it's something that the university does not condone, and obviously completely inconsistent with the institutional values as such," said the Interim Vice President and Dean of students Dr. Chris Miller.

Students said they were shocked by the incident. "It's getting less and less shocking each time it happens... but still you never like to hear about things like this," said Bryce Elemore.

Georgia football players facing felony weapons, damage charges

ATHENS, GA (CBS46) -

Two University of Georgia football players are in the Athens-Clarke County Jail after being charged with multiple felony offenses.

Julian Michael Rochester, a freshman from Powder Springs and Chad Jonathan Clay, a freshman from Suwanee, were both booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail early Tuesday morning on felony charges of possession of a weapon in a school zone and second-degree criminal damage.

David Johnston, host of 'The Ref', a morning show on 960 AM in Athens reported via twitter that the incident involved possession of a BB gun and property damage.
