Since November, I have been increasingly encountering a word I hadn't noticed before.  The word is "colorway," and it refers to color schemes.

Usage:  "The new Harley-Davidson models flex a new Cosmic Blue colorway that drapes the bike in a vibrant deep blue tone all around."

I'd never noticed it until last November, but have encountered it about a dozen times since then.

Turns out it comes from the fashion world, and has been around since the 1940s, but has been little used outside the fashion industry until the last couple of years.

It's a combination word (color+way), but not a portmanteau, which combines parts of two words.

So there you go.

Oh, "flex" is also a relatively new and increasingly popular usage to refer to something having particular attributes or characteristics.  It was borrowed from the bodybuilding world.  Now instead of "wearing" a new style, or "sporting" a new tattoo, or "rocking" a great accessory, you can "flex" it, and flexing is SO much more daring and exciting, isn't it?

Yeah, I'm a language geek.
I'm familiar with "flexing" but "colorway" is a new one on me.

Got a herf scheduled for Saturday evening.  My dad, my brother Thad and I, with clan sept Mark B and his son-in-law Troy.  Mark is providing hababos to celebrate the birth of granddaughter Elanor.
Outstanding.  You providing the whiskey?
No, my dad is, courtesy of our friend John Blair, aka the "Hardware Magnate."  John won't be there, but he's known for his superb taste in Scotch.  John considers drinking any Scotch younger than 18 years to be cradle-robbing.
Maybe it's my wallet talking, but I consider 15-18 years the sweet spot for my scotch.  Anything older tastes great, and if you're buying I will surely drink it and enjoy it, but I feel older than 18 years and scotch gets too smooth and starts to loose it's distinctive characteristics.
