Wonder if Trumpf is going to have his Putin like parade like he wanted last inauguration.
I'm not sure if anything at all can shock me now.

Good morning, RedStateDave.
This is definitely not shock, like it was in 2016. This is more like dread. Partly for myself, but mostly for my wife and daughters. For my BIL who will likely lose his health insurance at some point, then soon after, his life. For my in-laws who are already on social security and for my parents, who might've been in the next 5-7 years. For all the members of the LGBTQ community I know who are now in crosshairs.

I don't have the mental bandwidth for any social media right now, so I'll be taking a break. May your drinks be cold and your cigars plentiful, BOTLs.
I fear you fret too much, and needlessly.  Obamacare isn't going anywhere, neither is Social Security, and the LGBTQ community is not in any crosshairs that have any ammunition to fire.  The Republican party platform has been profoundly softened since 2016, and, surprisingly enough, it was Trump that did it.  This is not a landslide, not a mandate.  It's 5 million some-odd votes.  3 million less than Biden won by in 2020.  No way is Trump getting a free hand, even with a red congress.  Trump may be term-limited, but the Republicans in Congress are not, and they'll want to get reelected. They're not going to let Trump do anything that threatens their reelection.

This election was turned by the middle class, and it was the economy and the border that turned it - not LGBTQ issues, not healthcare, not Social Security, not abortion.  The middle class wants fiscal discipline and lower costs of living, and they want discipline at the border.  That's the message of this election, and it came from a significant number of Black and Latino voices that voted Republican.  If the Republican Party tries to turn this into anything else, then those voices are going to abandon them and paint DC all kinds of blue in two years, and Trump will be a lame duck for the rest of his term.

For the moment, at least, the Republican Party is wearing a new suit.  We'll see if it grows that into a whole new wardrobe.  I'd like to see that happen, but I'm skeptical.  But it's not the time for anyone to panic.
I applaud you optimism, and do hope it is as tempered as you assert.  I however had hoped for a split congress to mitigate excesses.  I don't have the same faith that full Republican control (or Democrat for that matter) is in our best interest.  I unfortunately feel that Trumps vindictiveness will target Obamacare that he desperately tried to bury last time IS in the crosshairs.  As far as other excesses, we shall see.

Morning, muchachos.
Hello, my friend. It's been a super busy day at work, and we're down a member, so the banter is slow going. I like what you said, and now, only time will tell what the next four years will bring us. I'd like to think that, as a nation, no one could ever be so powerful as to jeopardize democracy. I'll tell you what I'd love to see: election reform. The two-party system, with all its PAC monies, makes me uneasy.

Democracy is the worst form of government ever conceived, save for all the others.

Money talks. It always has, and it always will.

But cheer up. Most of the billionaires in this election were backing Harris, and the middle class still managed to elect Trump. So money isn't everything.

My point is that it would be great if the candidates didn't harass me for more money every few minutes, AND how wonderful if someone qualified with no money at all could compete in the race on equal footing. I do recognize that it will never happen. The Democrats made such a big deal over Kamala's $1B, and even if she had won, I think it is a complete waste of money. I can't ever recall voting for someone I liked rather than against someone I liked less. That's just sad.

Tony...please.  I want you to go look in a mirror and ask yourself this question: "What kind of person comes to the conclusion that they are uniquely qualified to govern other people?"

Then ask yourself if you want your daughter to marry such a person.

I don't believe every person that runs considers themselves "Uniquely Qualified".

I guess, I don't know. I'm sure I'm being naive, but I'd love to believe there is a civil servant out there that is prepared to lead for the greater good.

I'd find anyone who thinks they are at all qualified to govern others sketchy at best.
